I wish everyone would admit that classic literature is inherently difficult to read, and that you shouldnโt feel stupid if you donโt โget itโ. Especially the dark academia/ classic lit fandoms and stuff. Like unless you have the vocabulary and pop culture knowledge of an 18th century nobleman, itโs going to be a tough read. Itโll take you longer to read; youโre not stupid if youโve spent several months on a single book! And you donโt have to enjoy everything. Itโs okay if you got bored after one chapter of Wuthering Heights, and couldnโt be bothered to read the rest. Itโs okay if you want to read your favourite kids book for the 10th time instead. Youโre not stupid. No piece of literature is inherently better, more โimportantโ, more โmeaningfulโ, or more โintellectualโ than another. First and foremost, read what brings you joy.
โLiterature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.โ

iโm here to tell you this: you DO NOT need to be productive during this time. iโm tired of seeing soooooo many posts encouraging people to โwork hardโ or โhustleโ during this time โฆ must i remind you weโre in a pandemic? the whole world has literally been put on hold. so let me tell you again, you DO NOT need to be productive.
i grew up living in deprivation - emotionally, spiritually - and i quickly learned that i was the one who created my own reality. i recognized, at a very young age, that the world is centred around material things โฆ the questions most important to people seemed to be, โhow much money does he/ she make?โ or โwhat kind of car does he/she drive?โโฆ well none of this made any sense to me. it still doesnโt. everything that matters is anything outside of ourselves. this world sickens me, and i think sometimes i get caught up in how much of a lack of control we actually have. our lives are polluted with the normalcy surrounding burnout, business, and bullshit. NOTHING but who we are internally goes to the grave with us โฆ do you want to be remembered for the person you were, or for the tangible things you have? do you want to reach the end of your life and wish you appreciated the little/ slow moments, or do you want to feel like you experienced each moment as you deserve to?
you DO NOT need to be productive. this is an example as to why iโm thankful i had next to nothing as a child. i learned to use my imagination, to create my own worlds to escape to, to value the simplest moments, to learn that our minds have the capacity and the power to create our realities. take off the wretched blindfold that most of this world so freely wears. you DO NOT need to be โproductiveโ right now. you DO need to realize you are enough in this very moment just as you are. everything you have and will ever need is inside of you. you are ever so deserving.
