Friends & Sisters || Lucretia & Esther

“As wonderful as that thought might be, Lady Cavendish, I doubt he was the one who chose me. We have talked on a few occasions, yes, and we seem to get along nicely, but I do not think this betrothals was of his doing - or his request. But, perhaps I am mistaken. I am sure you know your brother far better than I do.” Lucretia replied with a gentle smile on her face, although she was beginning to feel things she desperately tried to repress - especially once Lady Esther said she caught Richard’s attention., but as she kept talking, Lucy chuckled lightly. A miracle worker, indeed.
Her smile widened at the acceptance of her friendship, and Lucretia found herself relaxing into the seat a little. But, when the topic of the wedding came along, she pursed her lips together in thought. “Well, I can’t say I have. I had wanted to talk to Lo - Richard about it, but you know how gentlemen are. They run from any talk of marriage like it is the plague.” She chuckled.
It was a nice thought, but a false one. Esther, knowing Richard? He was the sibling that she was least acquainted with. He’d always gone his own way and she had gone hers. Perhaps it was due to their similar free spirits that they had never quite managed to hold a conversation for long. “I couldn’t say for certain,” she admitted, “but sometimes wishful thinking is what carries us through the darkest nights.”
Esther folded her hands in her lap. Her brother William spoke joyfully of marriage whenever it was brought up, but as for Richard, he was a different breed entirely. Some men fled from marriage, while others took to it with ease. “I’m sure Richard will come around,” she said with a note of doubt in her voice. “Enough talk of marriage for now, I want to know more about you than the color of your wedding bouquet or the design of your dress. Let’s play a game. I ask you a question, then you ask me one. So Lucy,” Esther gave a welcoming smile, “what is your favorite flower?”
