Also please don’t let them do that? I would be upset if they just stole my fic idea off AO3 or wherever - they wouldn’t mention me as their inspiration, and I wouldn’t get any of the credit, even though they basically stole my free, artistic, intellectual property, that I created for the fandom, and not for the moneymakers. Just an opinion.

I think that we do the same, using their characters and some of canon storyline to write fics. It would be great if directors gave us a permission for do this and they asked us for permission to make our ideas real. That’s what I think.

I see your point, but we are not the ones getting money off of other people’s ideas. I agree though, content creators being more open towards fanfic/fanart etc. of their work is a great thing!

Yeah, I know that we don’t have benefits of this, but it still some violation of author’s rights. But if they didn’t ask us for permission to use some of our ideas, they would do the same. Anyway, yes, maybe someday they will be more open towards fics writers- it would be really amazing.

Good God this is so right. Fanfic writers do “steal” intellectual property, but I personally think all of it should be, like, creative commons or stuff. I mean, everybody should be able to build upon a good idea, just like how it should be in one’s moral code to feel compelled to attribute the work to its creator.
