you’re not dead

-Cecelia Ahern, Love, Rosie (via thedauntlesstargaryen)
And with that announcement, I’m up!
Let’s go get some ice cream, Effy!
Yes! Come on, I'll pay! To the grocer it is!
I can take a look at it if you want, Poppet. [Tori wrinkled her nose as she watched Effy peel the bandage back before replacing it.] Of course you do … You do know it doesn’t work on some people, right?
I am a human, remember, Veterinarian Tanner? [Effy smiled softly, pressing the bandage down.] I am sure it will heal soon. [Effy rolled her eyes gently,] Shh, it works on everyone.
You cleaned it out thoroughly, right? It might need to be cleaned again. [Tori gently brushed the edge of the bandage. She snorted lightly at Effy’s last words.] Depends on if they believe that act. Might want to remember the look I taught you. Big eyes and pouty lip.
Of coruse I did, but maybe it needs cleaned again. Stupid hunters. [Effy huffed, looking down awkwardly at the cut and slowly peeling the bandage away., before closing it back up with a grimace.] I always use the look- always.
I just want to sleep all day, everyday, for the rest of my life. Wake me up when the ice cream truck comes around.
Woo-hoo, big summer blow out sale.
So much ice cream on sale.
How are you, my sunshine? [Tori shifted a little bit so as to peer down at her sister. She nuzzled Effy’s head lightly before placing a kiss on her forehead.] Good point, poppet. Though you’re not supposed to drink here. Not old enough.
I am, alright, I suppose. This nasty cut still hurts. the blade had to have been laced with wolfsbane or mountain ash. [Effy murmured, her fingers moving to prod the bandaged cut on her collarbone.] Do you think I would really get in trouble? I could pull the, "Oh I am so sorry, I am from England and It slipped my mind" card.
„I think that might actually be worth a try… The thing is just that this stuff is usually poisonous and using it on people might be considered battery and that would be not that good, to say the least.” When Oliver saw the pout on Effy’s face, he couldn’t help but feel bad for leaving her in the dark about what he was doing. Still, before he told anyone, he need to figure some more things out and not even Effy was an exception. With all that seriousness written in her eyes, it was hard for him to maintain eye contact. After just a few seconds he looked down, pulling his hand away a few inches. “Look, Effy. I know that I can tell you, but this is kind of a complicated thing. A big, personal, weird, crazy, complicated thing and I really don’t want you to get involved with it if you don’t absolutely have to.” Oliver said, still avoiding to make eye contact. He felt so bad about keeping secrets from her, the girl who might easily be one of the bet friends that he has had in years. What the girl said next made him prick his ears though and his breath hitched slightly when she said the word supernatural. “You are? I wouldn’t call it crazy. Maybe just a little strange? As far as I knew the Greek religion died off when the Roman Empire was officially Christianized? I mean, I read some articles about modern Hellenismos, but I never would have thought to actually meet someone who believes in that..”
"Gods, I think you're right. Drat." She murmured softly, biting her lip. A giggle broke through her lips afterwards, shaking her head at the idea of actually sprayign someone with bug spray- jock or not. At his words, her brows furrowed greatly, and she shook her head, "Oh, no no. It most certainly did not. I mean, it did for a lot of people- yes, but not for my family, or even my extended family. We all pray to different Gods. My families household is blessed by Apollo. If you know Mara, her family prays to Ares." Effy shrugged lightly, leaning forward and resting her arms on the table. She was still going to see what she could pull from Oliver about what he knew. Looking in to the supernatural was dangerous for a human, and as one of her only close friends, she would not allow harm to come to Oliver. "Well, now that you have met someone who believes it, any questions? I am an open book with infinite knowledge on the subject"
"it's hard to imagine being here, when home hardly had electricity."
"Does there really need to be a reason? Pick one. I’m sure you could come up with plenty."
"Because you are hiding from love you do not believe you deserve? At least, that seems to be how most people are these days."
I, um, wanted to see if you are ok…and to apologize for the last time we met. I didn’t mean to berate you like that, you were only there to check on me, like I’m doing now. Plus there’s some things I need to tell you.
It is alright, do not apologize. You were under stress, everyone was .I accept your apology, though. Regardless, I am well. Sore, but well. And you?
What things?
Effy, I may be tipsy, although that fact alone doesn’t diminish my capability of identifying you’re underage.
Ah, yes, but you see, I am from England, and being an English citizen, i am technically of legal drinking age.
Would you believe me if I said I was checking up on you?
.... Maybe. If you tell me why you are checking on me.
He smiled a little. It wasn’t like he was actually surprised that she was here often, after all he had seen her sitting in some corners every now and then but usually didn’t go and talk to her when she seemed to lost in her stories. “Mhm, me, too. Especially since this is pretty much jock free zone.” He said with the smile still on his lips. As he noticed that she was peering at his papers, he quickly flipped them over. “Oh, it’s not really that interesting. Just some regular stuff you know. Oh, yeah.. that makes sense actually. Reading in a library. I could have come up with that myself.” Now it was him peering at her books and as he read the titles, the smile on his face turned into a frown. She was actually reading up on the same topic as he did. Oliver looked into her eyes directly, not bothering to try and hide the concern on his face. “Uh, no. I usually come up with my tricks myself or get inspiration by the real legends, you know. That’s just some mythology, something that has been bothering me lately.” Even though he told her about the topic now, he still kept his now face side down notes close to himself to shield it from her view.
"Yes, Jock-free is always a good thing.. I am wondering if bug spray would keep them away, as well." She gave a soft, slightly forced laugh as she thought about it. A pout tugged on her lips as he further hid his apaers from her. It confirmed her suspicions, and now she worried for him. He was testing dangerous waters in her opinion, and she would be damned if she allowed someone else to become hurt. Still, if he was on the track to believing in the supernatural, she would not want to keep secrets from him. "What is wrong, Oli? You can tell me." She murmured softly, reaching a hand out to cover his, eyes full of absolute seriousness. "Mythology is a ...um, a specialty of mine. Greek, and supernatural." She tapped the cover of one of the books with her free hand, "I like to know the origins of things. But, a lot of books get it wrong. You know how some people are Catholic? I am what my family considers Greek Polytheistic, we have kept with the history of the Grecian Gods, pray to them. So, I grew up with these stories as... um, bible verses, I suppose. Kinda crazy, right?"
