(Edit: Oh no, it gets worse. Does that mean the whole Eridian crew packed their party clothes, in the hope of having a successful mission and thus cause for celebration? I think that the quote “you have no immediate family. You don’t even have a dog.” DOES have the implication from Stratt that Grace has no obligations on earth, and no one who depends on him emotionally or physically (not true). BUT ALSO it means that because everybody currently close to Grace is on Project Hail Mary, there will be nobody to protest Grace being launched into space against his will.

And that’s what freaks Grace out so much. Stratt can totally get away with this, and nobody is going to even try to stop her.
