Sorry I fucking hate these condescending ass posts. How dare the poor get uppity at people. Meanwhile half of the middle class is voting to eradicate homeless people off the streets.
They're okaying means testing because of racism and are fine with anti-homeless architecture because homeless people are dirty and scary and want candidates who are "tough on crime" I really do mean it. The people you need to convince of that are the middle class.
It really is one of the best examples of them compounding. Cause when I was in a really bad spot housing wise, a few times I applied to those anyway and made a point about being like "oh I'm afab" and it felt so fucking gross. But I didn't wanna be homeless. So I made myself uncomfortable (and for nothing as it turned out, I would not do the same thing again if I went back in time)
But even then, and even more now, I was so conscious of the fact that, as uncomfortable and gross as it felt.... It was an option. And if I was a trans woman, no matter how desperate I was, it would not BE an option. It's a way of understanding privilege more people need to take on IMO, cause it's not about whether or not I think of it as a privilege. Course I dont. That's not the point.
it's baffling to still see people be like "you can convince white conservatives to like socialism if you don't use buzzwords! and then work on racism later" in the united states. like yeah, it probably is really easy to convince people that having things is good. how are you going to convince them that the people they hate having things isn't a problem?
#any analysis of class issues in the us that doesn't take anti-black racism into account is a fairy tale#if you haven't come around to the fact that republicans hate black people more than they love god i don't know what to tell you
republicans hate black/brown/poor people with the white hot intensity of 10,000 suns
we are NEVER going to advance, make any progress, or get anything nice like other countries until white people actively dismantle racism. it's just never going to happen.
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
People love natives in such a superficial way. People wanna stand with natives when we’re talking about the trees, and the land. People wanna stand with natives when we talk about philosophies of love and togetherness. But as soon as it’s time to talk about political side of being native. About dismantling a system built on the genocide of our people. About how we need a new system that isn’t built upon capital gain and benefitting white bodies. About putting up a fight. About how the colonial state we reside in is a disgusting imperial plague on this land. Suddenly y’all don’t wanna talk native.
"They spent hundreds of years trying to assimilate my ancestors, trying to create indians like me, who could blend in, but now they don’t want me either. They can’t make up their minds.
They want buckskin and face paint, drumming, songs in languages they can’t understand recorded for them but with English subtitles, of course. They want educated, well spoken, but not too smart. Christian, well behaved, never question. They want to learn the history of the people, but not the ones that are here now, waving signs in their faces, asking them for clean drinking water, asking them why their women are going missing, asking them why their land is being ruined.
They want fantastical stories of Indians that used to roam this land. They want my culture behind glass in a museum.
learning to notice an absence of people of color is crazy. you start seeing it everywhere. ill see a random pic of characters or people or whatever and be like "these are all white people. why"
all the babies in those baby youtube video memes. humanized character posts. like. its the little innocent shit. and like, the people making those baby memes probably arent seeking out white babies. maybe theyre just easier to find. but why are they easier to find? a complicated question, surely... but you know what it probably comes down to. someone, somewhere, maybe a lot of someones in a lot of places, made a choice. maybe knowingly, maybe not. but they made a choice. it starts to make you feel like a conspiracy theorist!!
its really funny that after 2 months this post is still making racists come into my askbox treating me like im a horrible person for pointing out that sometimes people of color are excluded from things in visible and offputting ways. cry about it
hey everypony !! since i’m supporting the DCblackout boycott, i figured i’d make a small info post with links and summaries !!
DCblackout:
DCblackout is the second stage of the DCsowhite discussion that took place earlier this year, which pointed out that DC hasn’t publtished a solo, on-going black title in over 1200 days
DCblackout has 3 main goals: 1. establish and announce 1-3 black on-going titles (with black creative teams) that have cancellation immunity for a minimum of 2 years, 2. educate fans on how sales work so they can accurately support the titles they love, & 3. greenlight a power company book if the titles do well (which would help a fanbase grow)
the goal of DCblackout is to raise awareness of the lack of black DC stories and give fans heroes they can relate to and see themselves in.
blackgirlnerds.com
their official public statement is as follows:
bleedingcool.com
DCsowhite and why now:
DCsowhite brought attention to the fact that there has been no black on-going title in over 1200 days. the last title was ‘I Am Batman’, which ran from 2021-2023 and ended on its #18 issue.
dc heavily relies on mini-runs or one shots for black characters, and black female characters receive even less.
james portis III (aka JPenumbra) posted a piece to comicsbeat.com focusing on the issue.
comicbeats.com
this has been an issue for a long time, but it doesn’t have to continue this way !! below is a link to the DCblackout petition, and blow that are links to JPenumbra’s original piece, the DCblackout website, and blackgirlnerds.com and bleedingcool.com’s pieces (in that order).
#DCSoWhite: End the Black Superhero Drought
It has now been 1171 days since the last time DC published an ongoing series for a Black character in their mainline continuity
DCBlackout - a DC Comics boyocott.
Following the viral #DCSoWhite conversation, creators demand sustained investment, visibility, and accountability for Black representation
DC Blackout: a DC Comics fan boycott launches after 1200 days without an ongoing DC Universe comic book series with a black lead character
when you're at a point where you're publishing comics with worse, less substantial representation of black characters than you were in the 90s or 2000s, i feel like, and now maybe this is crazy, but i feel like maybe you should at least acknowledge that you have an issue
from top to bottom, left to right:
Rainbow Lavender flag (just a fun redesigned pride flag that has the flagship lavender flower as a community symbol)
Trans lesbian, Black lesbian, Trans bi, Black bi, Trans gay, Black gay, Black trans, and Black nonbinary
aaannd if you wanna donate ^_^

i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
given all the rising transphobia and shit, we should remember that white trannies are still relatively safe and will be able to endure more escalation more easily, we're not at the top of any shit list even if we near if, trans women of color however are very vulnerable, and we need to remember they're our sisters, not our shields
Here's a pretty good organization that does this type of work!
The Black Trans Travel Fund is a Black trans-led collective rooted in self-advocacy and mutual aid for Black trans women globally, our mission is to provide travel support, connect communities internationally, and establish paths towards opportunities, safety, and success.
Help Sudanese families and a community kitchen surivive May
Thomaserena has shared the new monthly goals for the families and community kitchen he is helping.
The gofundme, which is supporting individual families, needs to reach $62k. It is currently at 59k.
Urgent help needed!!
This campaign was originally meant for 4 families as you… Maurice Wenig needs your support for Help Sudanese Famili
The chuffed, which is dedicated to the community kitchen, needs to reach $22k. It is currently at 18k.
As a Sudanese living in Egypt, my heart aches every day for the people of Sudan - both those still enduring unimaginable hardship back hoke,
We were able to help them reach last months goal on gfm to split the funds amongst the families, but still fell short for the community kitchen. Inflation has risen again due to Sudan's Council of Ministers banning the import of goods they've labled as "luxury items." This list contains food and nutrition items like milk, juice, and even certain fruits and vegetables. These bans will affect the operating costs of the community kitchen going forward and will make it harder for them to afford food for the community.
Please donate if you are able to do so.
Thomaserena is vetted on SudanFunds.com and has been shared by Sara (bsonblast). If you check the updates section for gfm or chuffed, you can also find proof of the transfers ThomaSerena has made.
Tagging for reach. Please share if you see this. Thank you
I bring a real “human lives are more important than animals. Yes, even than your doggo” vibe to the function that the people airlifting dogs out of warzones really don’t enjoy
