older lotr illustrations sometimes depict éowyn wearing ridiculously small armour. apart from the problem general sexualisation of the only female character (who really does anything), there’s another hilarious thought:

éowyn pretended to be dernhelm, a man. to fit in, she must have worn men’s armor. so the armor in the illustrations is normal for rohirrim.

The Making of a bourbon barrel. 

Side note -  The barrels themselves, even after burning/charring, aren’t waterproof, but they are water resistent. In addition to adding smoky bourbony flavors the charring helps the wood absorb some of the liquid being stored in it, causing the wood to swell, which does make the barrel waterproof. However, they are not airtight. A whisky or bourbon barrel can lose 8-10% of total volume in the first year, and up to 60% in an 18 year bourbon. This is from a combination of evaporative loss and loss to the barrel. Evaporative loss is often referred to as “The Angel’s Share” and affects the alcohol content of the liquid in the barrel, because water evaporates out leaving alcohol behind, while the distillate lost to the barrel is often called “The Devil’s Cut”, and generally does not affect the alcohol content of the distillate, as both alcohol and water soak into the wood.

Roger Casement - major babe British diplomat, human rights activist, Irish nationalist and a poet, who played a large role in bringing down the hell that was King Leopold II’s Congo’s rubber trade, which killed (it’s estimated) between 2-15 million Congolese. 

Despite all his humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, he was executed for treason by England when he started recruiting German support in the Great War for Irish independence. Private diaries were shown at his trial revealing his homosexual identity which some argue sealed his ultimate fate, given the feelings towards gay men at the time.

For those who haven’t heard, this woman in Arkansas was speeding by a slight margin (5 miles) and was flagged to pull over by an officer. She put on her blinker and got into the right most lane, then slowed and put her hazards on, indicating she was looking for a safe place to pull over. This is actually what police departments, and this one specifically, tell people to do. The shoulder on that road was quite narrow, and she was likely waiting to exit the interstate.

Despite this, the officer slowly gains on her and uses a pit maneuver to spin her car out. This sent her (and her unborn child) careening into the median and completely flipping the car. The officer is heard calling for ems in a very calm voice.

From what I can find, the woman is alright, as is her child. She’s looking to pursue legal action against the officer, who has defended his actions by claiming she was driving wildly and swerving. As I’ve seen so far, he is still being paid and on the force.
