from this article, which is well worth the read, if only for the fun of seeing zuck get dunked on
I've not been able to stop crying for two hours, but it is tears of joy. I've waited so many years to see this news. 23 years I've waited. I cannot begin to describe what this means to the Huntington's community.
One day I'll write about what it's like to grow up knowing you might have a terminal, incurable illness, and not be allowed to test yourself because "it's such a serious decision" they don't want it hanging over you until you're an adult (as if it doesn't hang over you as you witness a parent die, and know you've got 50% chance of inheriting the same illness--as do your siblings). One day, I will talk about how, in the fear of traumatising children with the knowledge they might be incurably, terminally ill, they also took away their right to decide over their bodies to a degree that is traumatising. One day.
But today I am going to cry. Because it's over. Because no child will ever have to go through the same uncertainty, because at least they will know there is a treatment option available. A treatment option that one of my siblings might come to rely on. With all the shit things happening around us, my childhood hope and dream have been realised. That's got to count for something.
One of the most devastating diseases finally has a treatment that can slow its progression and transform lives, tearful doctors tell BBC.
A prominent Texas politician said he unwittingly took part in a 1980 tour of the Middle East with a clandestine agenda.
People knew the hostages were being held to help Reagan get elected. I was 15, so too young to vote but this was the first election that I paid attention to because of everything else happening then . . . and there was a lot happening. The adults around me, a lot of the teachers, were all convinced that something dirty was happening. Maybe they couldn't prove it, but they knew. Oh, the hostages were released just as Ronnie was swearing in? Yeah, that was one last fuck you to Carter.
They knew it. And now we *know* it.
Fuck Republicans, man. Fuck 'em.
Another article that's not behind a paywall–
Former Texas governor urged Middle Eastern leaders to convince Iran not to release hostages before 1980 election
This woman was arrested for WORDS.
We should rally for her as much as the guy who actually shot someone. Push back.
the level of censorship around this man is ridiculous, what happened to free speech? It’s just his name.
calling her a “copy cat” when she didn’t do anything other than repeat 3 words is insane. her bail is set at 100,000.
as of now she’s facing 15 years in jail for ‘threatening’ the ceo of the insurance company that denied her claim. and isn’t that ironic? since women always get told that ‘threats don’t mean anything unless there’s action’ when it comes to reporting stalkers, ex and present partners who threaten abuse. but now a threat warrants this disproportionate action?
“Porn has always existed” has to be one of the most brain-dead cope-harder takes. Porn addicts literally think ancient frescoes in the brothels of Pompeii are the same as a multi-billion dollar industry that has thousands of women being raped on camera, for anyone on the planet to view at any time, any place. People are so obsessed with porn they can’t imagine a world without it.
luigi mangione, the SUSPECTED (innocent until proven guilty) united healthcare shooter, has been charged with terrorism. that’s right. a man who supposedly shot ONE SINGLE PERSON is being charged with terrorism. because in america, billionaires lives matter enough that a SINGLE rich man’s death is considered a terrorist act against this country. think about that.
I GOT A FUCKING RAISE THE POTATO WORKED WTF
This potato works. Every. Fucking. Time.
Then bring me luck
the day after I posted this last time I was notified that I was selected for a really cool mentorship gig and got an unrelated glowing review at work
Hey Potato, cure my -ing cold so I can have a good time while away.
Here's the potato. Make what use of it you will. :)
I can’t get over the mass rape case in France. It disturbs me on so many fucking levels but one thing that has stuck with me is that he was with her for 30+ years before the rapes began. According to the victim (Gisèle Pelicot, who I consider to be one of the bravest people on earth for going public with the trial) she considered her and husband be an idyllic couple. She loved him. And she thought he loved her. For thirty fucking years she was with him through thick and thin and in their late 50s he started raping her. I never want to hear another woman shamed for “choosing wrong”. It can happen at any fucking time no matter how much you think he loves you. This is so fucking terrifying
Just found out that that French rapist that repeatedly raped Gisele Pelicot was originally arrested for upskirting. This is why so called “lesser” sexual assaults should be taken much more seriously by the law, these men are almost always hiding more grievous offences.
