I don't usually like to rb reddit posts bc who knows if they're legit, or bait, or satire or what. But the thread on addiction is too real.
It's like everyone pretends they don't remember, but when TRAism started to ramp up, like 15 years ago, TIMs were just asking ppl to refer to them w/she/her as an accommodation for sex dysphoria. They weren't claiming to be women at first, just men who were deeply uncomfortable in their bodies and by doing this one simple thing u could help them cope.
Then they claimed to be women born in the wrong body and the rhetoric became "sex is what's in your pants, gender is what's between your ears" (or something like that). Basically, while yes, there are obviously some physical differences, they're women where it counts so you should use their preferred pronouns.
Then after everybody did that, it became "how DARE you say my body is wrong!? I am a woman and my testicals are female. And why are my pronouns 'preferred' while other women just automatically get she/her'd?" As if the wrong-body and preferred pronoun talk wasn't concocted by TRAs to begin with. (This btw is where i jumped off the trans train and became a radfem, circa 2015, bc i noticed this pattern)
And when everyone who was just trying to be kind and offer an accommodation for mentally ill men gave no pushback, the TRAs pushed it ever further and insisted that "misgendering is literal violence," which meant that lying about sex differences was no longer an accommodation, but an obligation. If you didn't do it, you were committing literal physical violence against an oppressed minority.
But then that wasn't enough either, because there were still some reminders in society that TIMs aren't female. Like women's sports, shelters, schools, prisons, scholarships, spas, gynecologists, women's festivals, lesbians' sexual boundaries (i.e., cotton ceiling). So these were the things TRAs targeted next.
And when they managed to force their way into just about every female-only space, that somehow wasn't enough either! It's not good enough to be treated just like women, they have to be treated better, everything they do deserves praise and no matter what shitty abusive thing they say or do, it must be excused, justified, or just outright ignored. And not only that but even if you're the most supportive (spineless) ally in the world, don't you know that TIMs can still tell when you're secretly thinking of them differently than other women? Your private thoughts are tantamount to violence and you need to repent check your privilege cissies afabs TMEs! Don't you know that you owe every single civil right you have as a woman or gay person to TIMs? You owe them everything forever.
So here we are now, and most people have woken up to the truth of this movement because there's only so far you can push most people. If TRAs could've stopped at any point before, they would've probably been able to hold on to a lot of the wins their movement gained. But they can't. Because they're addicts, so nothing is ever enough.
And for some fucking reason, their waning group of supporters continue to pretend that we're still operating in 2011 and all they're asking for is a little she/her'ing here and there and it's "terfs" who are unreasonable evil bullies for not giving the poor helpless trodden upon most-oppressed-women-in-the-world a simple crumb of validation. Because don't you know? It costs nothing to be kind.
