extremely funny to me that Kermit the Frog is the only main overlap character between Sesame Street and The Muppets. imagine your day job is hanging out in a community of lovely people that genuinely just want to help kids learn and care about everyone so so much and then your night job is the reason that you have to stay up to date on your rabies AND tetanus vaccine
at noon the giant you're hanging out with is Big Bird! a wonderful fellow who likes reading stories and singing and telling fun facts! at midnight there's a giant named Sweetums who makes you feel like you're being hunted for sport
Ernie, trying to maybe come out to Kermit: well you know Kermit, me and Bert-
Bert: Bert and I
Ernie: Bert and I, we've been best friends forever, but we're also something else too!
Kermit, who every goddamn night has to tell Beaker and Bunsen to keep it professional, deal with Statler and Waldorf's bullshit, AND update his organizational chart on Dr. Teeth and the Electric Polycule: that's really great to hear fellas, happy for you two! :)
Grover, alarmed at having spilled some finger paint on Kermit's flipper: I am so sorry, Kermit. Please forgive me.
Kermit, who deals with a multitude of bodily fluids on his person and all over the theatre every evening, who is unintentionally trampled by large monsters as they exit the stage, and quite intentionally has his little froggy bones launched into a wall most nights by Miss Piggy: It's ok, Grover. I'm a frog. I love baths.
On Sesame Street: Oh, no, Telly is watching too much television!
The Muppet Show Theater, that night: Gonzo attempts to explain his latest fetish at length.
Would you still love me if I was a Bipes Biporus commonly known as Mexican Mole Lizard? š„ŗš

When I was younger I used to be part of theĀ āonly-reads-complete-fics crowdā but as Iām getting older Iām realizing how powerful it can be to have consistent things to look forward toā¦
All the ppl in the tags laughing abt how fic updates arenāt consistent are cowards. I aim to be subbed to at least 365 fics. One for each day of the year. And thatās just my starting point. Your inbox? Empty. Barren. Fallow. Mine? Bountiful. Overflowing. A cornucopia of ripe treats awaiting my tender consumption. I wade through honey-rich excess while you starve of your own volition.
āI wade through honey-rich excess while you starve of your own volitionā.Ā
This line is the sexiest way to sayĀ āYou fucked upā that I have ever read. I have to start using this in my life when pointing out the follies of others.
I have so many updates to read, no end in sight, so many fandoms so many ships so many AMAZING authors!
Does anyone have any weird favorite smells that aren't just like gasoline or sharpie? I do like those but I want to dig deeper. I love the smell of frozen cardboard and brand new hardware
So far the replies on this seem to be either "old books and libraries.... Moss..... Rain..... I'm so weird I know" or "actual rotting garbage"
masturbation is evil not for any puritan anti-fun reason but because it has permanently claimed so many verbs

I really hope its not too bad bc i actually love both components.
it forms a dry skin at the top made of the sour pellets. not a great start.

Unanimous consensus: Do not do this
Other people: Hold on Iām about to do this

Hey, I saw you use nicker poster colour. I have been thinking about ordering some, and wondering how it compares with gouache. I hear its what Studio Ghibli use and I love their backgrounds. I never can get quite the same effect as them with other mediums, and I was wondering whether its properties would help in achieving that (might be also my skill though) .
i do, sometimes! i havenāt used it in a while.
nicker poster color and gouache are pretty much the same thing, nicker just being a cheaper/thinner version of gouache. they both reactivate with water and dry matte. nicker is about half the price of gouache ($5 a tube vs $10 a tube), and is even a smidge cheaper than acryla gouache ($7 a tube). the cost really comes in with shipping fees from japan! but jetpens sells tube sets and some individual tubes for a good price.
i took a workshop at concept design academy about 2 years ago, hosted by yohichi nishikawa, a ghibli bg painter. they gave us all the same or similar supplies that ghibli bg painters use, and we learned their technique, which is deceptively easy lol. basically you HAVE to master gradients, and you canāt move on as a trainee until you can do a beautiful gradient every single time. if you can paint a gradient then you can paint anything on top (a sky, a field, a house, etc). itās an insanely challenging way of painting so donāt be discouraged if you donāt pick it up right away. here are some gradients i painted during the workshop:
and the only decent painting i managed to do over the course of the 2 days lol
getting the right materials helps. studio ghibli uses tmk poster paper, which you can buy hereĀ (this item used to ship internationally idk if it does anymore sorryyy). this type is slightly different than the actual type they use, which you can apparently only get from sekaido in shinjuku and have to special order lol. same brand though.
the NUMBER ONE TIP is to completely wet BOTH sides of the paper, and let the water soak in until the paper has aĀ āglass likeā surface (wait about 5 mins). then, as you paint, you want to keep the paper moist so that the paint blends easily. at ghibli they use humidifiers. we didnt have those at the workshop so i just worked really fast lol. only sharp details are put on after the entire painting has dried.
you will also need a square brush, like this, for painting gradients/big areas, and a round brush, like thisĀ for details. you can find something similar outside of japan by searching for calligraphy brushes.
the secret weapon of painting gradients is this guy, a hake brush. this brush is always kept clean and dry, and you use it by gently feathering it in diagonally strokes over a gradient to smooth out the edges where the paint is changing color. this is the hardest part but also my favorite, hehe. very intense.
videos to help!
a short tutorial by the official nicker poster color channelĀ that shows the technique of wetting both sides of the paper and keeping the surface wet while you paint.
from the same channel, a BEAUTIFUL sky being painted.Ā this one shows how to use the hake brush, and gives a better example how to paint a gradient. they make it look easy. itās ludicrously hard hahaha.
from the man kazuo oga himself. his technique is a little different in this video, because he uses the poster color VERY thinned down (normally you dont have to add much water at all), and applies them almost like watercolor with opague paint on top. i luv it. his book is also very helpful too.Ā itās in japanese but there are pictures of his process.
of course there are tons of other methods besides the one iāve outlined here :) for instance, tekkonkinkreet and ponyo were both painted with poster color and then used colored pencil/pastels on top to add texture.
BASICALLY, poster color is much cheaper than gouache if you cut out the shipping cost. (when i was in japan, i went to sekaido and the 40ml pots were only $4 dfhksdhfsjdhfdf). itās also thinner and way more finnicky. gouache has aĀ ācreamierā and thicker consistency, and you usually need to thin it with water. poster color also dries a biiiiiit lighter than gouache, especially if you apply thin paint over thick, dried paint.
overall, i would recommend giving poster color a try if you can find a set thatās in your budget! theyāre super fun, but challenging, to use.Ā i prefer gouache on the regular, because i like having more control over my paint.Ā
Hey iām a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. Iāve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. Iāll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Everyone knows about Chekov's Gun, but let me tell you about Hussie's Gun
Hussie's Gun is sitting on the mantle in act 1. In act 2, people keep commenting on the gun, but nothing happens. In Act 3 Act 1, someone puts flowers in the gun barrel. In Act 3 Act 2, the gun is randomly replaced by a Big Mouth Billy Bass. In Act 3 Act 3, they find the gun again. In Act 4 Act 1, they realize the gun was never loaded. In Act 4 Act 2, they fire the gun anyway, and the flowers still lodged in the barrel kill a villain who just happens to be allergic to flowers. In Act 4 Act 3, they lose the killer flower gun through a time portal. In act 4 Act 4 Act 1, they realize they need it again, so they steal it from the past and replace it with a big mouth billy bass...
In Act 6, they turn on the big mouth billy bass, and it starts firing the missing bullets everywhere.
Homestuck is perpetually one or two cuils weirder than you ever expect it to be.
