Compassion international sponsored children are... >> 18% to have salaried employment in their adult years. >> 40% more likely to finish secondary education. >> 80% more likely to graduate college. >> 75% more likely to become leaders in their communities >>> Swipe to see a letter from my correspondent child >>> The Covid 19 pandemic could almost DOUBLE the number of people suffering from acute hunger, pushing it to more than a QUARTER BILLION by the end of 2020 according to the United Nations Food Programme. I love fall nights like this...
Surrounded by awesome people, laughing at our insane inside jokes and retelling stories for the thousandth time.
I’m so thankful to be in a family like this, yet reminded that there are many people without families to come around them in good times and bad. As children of God, let’s try to reach out to others and welcome them into the family of God.
This is something I’m hoping to learn more about. How to share the Gospel well and be a light to others. (Campfire pun somewhat intended.)
If you have any resource/book suggestions on this topic, please let me know! Prayers and resources are much appreciated.😁

I just received a letter from the sweetest girl in Burkina Faso! I’ve been exchanging letters with her through Compassion International’s Child Correspondent Program. Through the program, If someone can’t write to a child, but they still want to support them financially, they arrange for someone to write in place of the sponsor.
This is great for if a church or business sponsors a child and can’t have one person write to them. Of course, for individuals, they prefer that the sponsor write to the child. But if they’re unable/unwilling for any reason, they can request a correspondent.
This ensures kids receive regular letters of encouragement. I recently received a letter from my correspondent child Pori, telling about her friends, and her hobbies. Letters offer a glimpse into the life of a child in poverty.
Often families live in very close quarters, sharing a home with 12 or more people, a stove, and their livestock. Homes are made out of whatever is available. Tin, branch, grass, and mud huts are what many people call home. These cannot withstand storms. Especially during the pandemic, many have lost their jobs and cannot promise their children a daily meal or send them to school. Often parents send their kids to orphanages hoping they have a better life.
All this tells the child, “You’re not important. You don't deserve education. Your only option is child marriage.” Letters combat these lies by telling children, “You are loved. You’re made in God’s image. Jesus loves you. I’ll pray for you. You have value. I support your goals for the future.”
That is priceless to a child who may have never received a letter. If you’ve considered sponsoring a child, or would like a glimpse into the lives of one of these precious kids and reassure them of the hope we have in Jesus, I’d encourage you to sign up for the correspondent program.
Just call 1-800-336-7676 and ask to be put on the waiting list for a correspondent child. Of course, there can’t be correspondents without sponsors! If you’re interested and able to sponsor a child I’d encourage you to do so. It is a huge blessing to the child and the sponsor. Thanks for reading!
