I practice Buddhism (technically not even at this point, I think it is more accurate to say the path of understanding) and I love reading the Bible. I am not sure how familiar you are with Buddhism, but there is a concept of sangha, which is the community that you practice Buddhism with. I just had a thought that reading the Bible is kind of like having a sangha because there are so many people and circumstances and tidbits of wisdom that are relatable and beautiful that it almost feels like the people in the Bible are your sangha. You can go to the Bible when you feel lonely and lost and need guidance and reassurance. I think that is a wonderful thing and I just wanted to share that thought-feeling with you.
thank you, i love this. in my faith there is the notion that if two or more are gathered, there god is. that gathering is in and through the verses, for me. the neighbor, the community, the ethical relationship—this is the heart of the narrative, and vice versa
A woman must stay alone for a long while until the hate men have for women has left her, and even longer until the jealousy women have for other women has left her, and longer still until the anger her children have for her has left her—until she is no longer a woman altered by the resentment of men, women, and children, no longer what others have forced her to be, but empty as a skull or a shell, filled only by whatever she pleases, forest air perhaps.

be busy. busy not checking messages. busy reading those books you never started or finished. busy having a good night of sleep. busy taking care of yourself and your skin. busy moving your body. busy helping your community. busy reflecting on your life and what you can improve. busy doing things aside from the capitalistic viewpoint of “productivity.” busy slowing down.
