too human for it not to hurt | Volkner & Dawn
She stuck out her lower lip and stood on her tip toes to push her face nearer to his. “Gosh, do I need to zap some sense into that brain of yours? I bet your sense of humor is more electrifying than mine is!” She’d play along with this little game of until he would be too stunned to say anything back. Unless, of course, she would be the one to give up first.
”That’s… Nice of you to say,” she said quietly, scratching her cheek. “B-but I don’t think anyone would really want to take an interest in my contests. More so you, since you’re a really strong gym leader!” In all honesty, she wasn’t so sure about anything he was saying. As much as she knew her strengths, it was still quite embarrassing for to realize she had actually been on TV.
Dawn furrowed her eyebrows and stared up at the Lighthouse. “Rumors always end up fading after a while. It would only be a problem if it got in the way of my contests.” But the thought still made her stomach twist into a knot. She tried to think of something else and instead enjoy the moment and think about the consequences later.
Eyes widening at the sudden proximity of her face to his, Volkner averted his eyes, mind racing. I'll just say something about... uh, sparks, or amps— "Ahem, wire we talking like this? I'm surprised that we can't conduct a serious conversation." That was close. I'm really running out of puns here.
He shot her a look, his expression devoid of lightheartedness. "Dawn," he started, voice low. "You're passionate about your contests right? I can tell from the way you talk about them. Whatever you do, don't let that fire burn out." If he wasn't being dead-serious, Volkner would've laughed at how much his words sounded like one of Flint's cheesy inspirational speeches.
Pushing open the doors to the Lighthouse, he made his way towards the elevator. "It would be terrible if a stupid rumour got in the way of your career. I don't mind if you'd prefer not to be seen with me."
