reasons why I need a remake of this series

15 years on and I'm still thinking of how Arthur was absolutely robbed of character development. I know the slogan of the show was "two sides of the same coin" but frankly......that's stupid.

Arthur should've shown a political streak, he should have been somewhat revolutionary for the times, he talks over and over again about equality and “the good of the people”, but he barely knows his people beyond castles walls and he often underlines the difference in class between him and Merlin.

he was supposed to transform Camelot into a medieval paradise, but all we got was him prancing around medieval backdrops bickering with Merlin. How many times was he faced with actual political problems that didn't center around his sister slowly descending into madness? when was he a good king at all? he is not even all that skilled in combat since Merlin essentially saved his butt every time

And Merlin ugh, he is supposed to grow into the inspiration behind the "old wise man" literary archetype, but instead, he is just a sad lonely boy obsessed over a guy he met. Wisdom comes from going through multiple experiences and learning from them, Merlin always relives the same experience over and over again and learns nothing

I get that their faiths are intertwined but that doesn't mean there wasn't enough room for them to develop independently

Hot take: the majority of queer coding relies on the assumption that platonic relationships cannot be as deep or caring as romantic ones. I recognize that queer coding is important to many people, but I think it can and should be done in a less amatonormative way. We as a society need to get better at facing the hard truth that many things that bring comfort, joy, and belonging also perpetuate truly harmful ideals.

Additional hot take: "There is no heterosexual explanation for this" is one of the worst phrases invented for the above reasons because it automatically assumes any form of closeness is romantic in nature

By all means, if you interpret a character's relationship as romantic, that's 100% valid. And if they are intentionally being queer-coded, that's awesome! But please don't act like platonic relationships can't be deep and loving in their own way. Especially since it contributes to people isolating both emotionally and physically because they're conditioned to believe those sorts of relationships have to be romantic

Normalize hugging and closeness and cuddling and telling the people you platonically care about you love them without the assumption that it always has to be in a romantic way. Not just in fiction but in real life too. Platonic relationships are not lesser than romantic relationships, they're just a different kind of love

I’m going to scream. Pushback on the narrative that climate breakdown can be averted by individual decisions centres around the fact that NORMAL PEOPLE do not contribute to a significant amount of carbon emissions cos the average NORMAL PERSON emits 7 tons of CO2 a year. Not Taylor fucking Swift who has emitted over 8000 tons of emissions this year SO FAR. Her CO2 emissions from private jet use alone are equivalent to that of TWO THOUSAND normal people. We absolutely should be blaming individuals if those particular individuals are emitting two thousand people’s worth of emissions.

So I finally finished season two, sadly I didn't like it as much as I did season one. It was still enjoyable but it didn't deliver. there were so many things I wanted to see them explore. the worst thing is that I scoured the internet and there are NO fanfics for this tv show
