personalized ads are so funny to me
'hey we've been spying on you and tracking your every move. it's a culmination of state of the art technology and an unprecedented invasion of consumer privacy. a room full of men with made up jobs bent their will toward decades of constructing this system, defending it in court, and tirelessly innovating new ways to aggregate more data about you'
and the end result is
'yeah so uh we saw that you recently bought a car. so here's an ad for that car'
like no i'm good actually. you might be aware that i already have one
Cool
Uhm,, sorry sweatie, but we have no principles and are glad to abandon your human rights for a handful of votes that we're not gonna get anyway bc we don't believe in offering anything to anyone either 😍🥰😘
It seems like if you’re concerned about literal fascism, mass demonization and rollback of the human rights of unpopular subaltern groups is something that should the fucking well concern you.
first they came for the trans people, but I did not speak up, because I was too concerned with the abstract concept of opposing fascism to actually do anything
Reblog to give a trans person a fresh and perfectly ripe mango wait huh
It's the wikipedia image??? How big could it be

Reblog to give a trans person a shockingly high resolution mango
god i hate how normalized diet culture and shit like bmi and calories are. bmi is based on eugenics. calories are a measurement of how much energy something gives u and not at all of how much weight or fat ull gain. diets have been proven to be harmful and ultimately unhelpful in actually losing weight. fatness has been largely proven to not be inherently unhealthy and doesnt inherently cause health issues.
if anyone has more good links to add on then please do and if anyone knows more on this stuff than me then dont hesitate to correct me!
FOOD IS GOOD. FOOD IS GOOD. FOOD IS GOOD!! if you’re eating, ever, and even/especially if it’s hard, know that i am personally SO SO proud of you
The BMI was invented by Adolphe Quetelet, the 19th century statistician who invented phrenologist anthropometry. He wasn’t just a eugenicist, he was one of the founding fathers of racist pseudoscience. Please do not listen to anything he has to say about your body.
“And get this: While epidemiologists use BMI to calculate national obesity rates (nearly 35 percent for adults and 18 percent for kids), the distinctions can be arbitrary. In 1998, the National Institutes of Health lowered the overweight threshold from 27.8 to 25—branding roughly 29 million Americans as fat overnight—to match international guidelines. But critics noted that those guidelines were drafted in part by the International Obesity Task Force, whose two principal funders were companies making weight loss drugs.”

Body mass index is used to sell weight loss drugs, set insurance premiums, and counsel patients. There's just one little problem.
I always thought everyone knew this by like the early 2000s but instead I see more people than ever believing this stuff is real medical science
Man if y'all folks up thread thought this situation was bad back in 2021 (as I did too) you won’t BELIEVE what the 2026 cultural convo on these topics is like.

ok so i understand where you all are coming from with tagging this "breaking bad spoilers" but it's important to note this moment is from the cold open of season one episode one. like. the third thing that happens AT ALL in the show is the basis for this joke. like less than 5 minutes into the Pilot Episode. i think maybe this isn't needed
A year-long investigation reveals how mothers lost children after being radicalised by uplifting podcast tales of births without midwives or
if you’re interested in the state of modern obstetrics, feminism and the politics of birth i really highly recommend this article on free birth society and the free birth movement
Something that the Guardian would never choose to highlight, but that nonetheless is really striking to me about this article, is how this ''movement'' was pitched towards and attracted radfems, and then neatly segued into right-wing divine feminine type shit where there's huge rhetorical overlap with antivaxx and other anti-medicine movements.
This article uses the phrase 'radical feminist' in a way that, to many readers, would be assumed to mean 'dedicated, hardcore feminist.' This is because the Guardian is complicit in normalizing TERF viewpoints and framing gender-affirming care as medical abuse, mutilation, harmful to women, and equivalent to sexual assault - all of which are things that the 'free birth' advocates described in this article say about obstetric care, midwives, etc. It is not a coincidence that these women began as not just feminists, but specifically as radfems. There is a direct line that connects these infants who died from being denied medical care, the dead children of anti-vaxxers, and the suicides of transgender people who are denied access to gender-affirming medical care. Notice it. Pay attention to how this works.
