It's really quite bizarre how much work in trans healthcare bases itself on the idea that a patient who deliberately seeks out the Penis Removal Doctor and says "Yes, Penis Removal Doctor, I am certain that I would like to have my penis removed" might be lying to the Penis Removal Doctor, so that they can have their penis removed without actually wanting that.
What's even more bizarre is that the most common "solution" to this is a months-to-years long hazing ritual that has nothing to do with ensuring the patient knows what they're doing, and if you complain about how ridiculously abnormal this is for any kind of healthcare you summon a legion of "um actually" types who insist you're fighting against basic pre-surgical consultations.
It fascinates me that some people seem to believe that droves of mentally unstable cis men would get their penises removed if they could, and the red tape is the only thing stopping them from waking up one day and being like “Oh No! My Little Friend Is Gone!!!! What Have I Done?????”
I’m not saying it could never happen. People make regrettable decisions all the time, but describe the process of an MtF vaginoplasty to the average cis man and he will probably involuntarily cringe.
Heck, the term “penile inversion” perturbs me, and I’ve never had a penis to invert.
If getting sex organs altered was super fun and casual, a lot more women would probably have hysterectomies to solve menstrual problems. Dudes who generally dislike kids would get vasectomies ASAP. Getting circumcised would be an event for consenting adults who understand their rights.
The fact that the vast majority of cis people aren’t going buck wild modifying their primary sex characteristics indicates to me, that there isn’t a huge demand for spur of the moment unplanned genital surgery.
