The Road Not Taken: A Home of Our Own

The Road Not Taken AU Summary:

A disastrous war completely changes the political landscape of the entire realm. Unable to return to their kingdoms, Anna and Hans are forced to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to survive. They abandon their homes, their titles, and their own identities in order to make new lives for themselves as a humble man and wife in an unfamiliar land. But Anna soon finds that the former days of playing pretend did little to prepare her for what true married life would be like, both with society’s expectations of her and the tensions of her and Hans’ new relationship.

A Home of Our Own Summary:

The city of Etonsburg was bustling and thriving, but for Anna and Hans, fitting in had been a challenge since day one. With little money to their names, they had to rely on the kindness of strangers to get the barest of necessities– food to eat and a place to sleep at night. And now, after months of scraping by each day, they both start to wonder if they’ll ever find the same levels of peace, comfort, and contentment as their neighbors. 

This is the first official work in the "Road Not Taken AU", a subset of the "Fugitives". Nothing in this AU will directly impact the main story. I just really wanted to explore the scenario where Anna and Hans truly had to reinvent themselves in order to survive. Reading "Fugitives" first is not a requirement, but you might catch some easter eggs if you do. 😉

This is the first time I've had almost an entire work completed before posting, so updates for this mini-fic will be pretty frequent. It will be five chapters (or six, if I decide to actually post an epilogue).
