An Overview of Note-Taking Styles
Note-taking is one of the most essential skills a student should master. It allows you to record and review information to be used in the future. But whatβs the best way to do so? Hereβs an overview of note-taking styles that can help you maximize your learning!
!!!College is starting soon and my major is totally different from what I saw myself doing so I'm a little nervous π₯Ί
I've got 2 quizzes due before Aug starts so I've started some studying already. After months of resting the first day was really tiring but 4 days have passed since then and I'm pretty proud of my progress :)
A motivational bunny to brighten up your week! β¨ It can be frustrating not being where you want to be yet, but you have to remember you *have* made progress and your aspirations are fuel to keep going!
Chibird Store | Positive Pin Club | Webtoon
β¨With most schools, colleges and unis closed around the globe and most studyblr students now having school at home I thought I would create a challenge to help everyone stay focused and productive and also to connect with people so even though most people are self-isolating, we donβt feel lonelyβ¨
β¨Infoβ¨
Because no one really knows when weβre going to be able to go back to schools and I know it will depend very much on where you live, Iβm going to do a month of daily βchallengesβ starting on Monday 23rd March 2020 but if the quarantine keeps going Iβll try to add as the weeks/months go on
I want to see what yβall are posting so please use the tag #2020 quarantine challenge and Iβll track this tag and reboot as much as possible!
On this note, I will reblog basically everything even if you donβt think it is βaestheticβ cause I love seeing how everyone does their notes and stuff so please get involved π
β¨Week 1 - Questionsβ¨
Mon - Have you made a study schedule to help you study at home?
Tue - How are you being taught your lessons? (google classroom, teams etc.)
Wed - Whatβs your favourite study snack?
Thu - How are you keeping active?
Fri - What is your favourite subject/topic to study at the moment?
Sat - Where in your house is your favourite place to study?

β¨Week 2 - Picturesβ¨
Mon - Take a picture of your desk/study space
Tue - Take a picture of the book you are currently reading
Wed - Take a picture of your most colourful notes
Thu - Take a picture of the pens/highlighters that you could not live without
Fri - Take a picture of the view outside your window
Sat - Take a picture of a meal youβve cooked or something youβve baked
Sun - Take a picture of some of your art or doodles
β¨Week 3 - Questionsβ¨
Mon - What is your favourite food to cook or prepare?
Tue - If you could go anywhere in the world for a week, where would you go?
Wed - What is your biggest goal for this year? Have you done anything so far to achieve this?
Thu - What is the song that makes you happy no matter what?
Fri - What is your favourite TV programme at the moment (on Netflix etc)?
Sat - Where is your favourite place in the world (eg a city youβve been to, a restaurant, or a particular hiking spot)?

β¨Week 4 - Tips advice β¨
Mon - What is your biggest tip for staying focused?
Tue - What is your biggest tip for not getting cabin fever?
Wed - What would be your advice to you from five years ago?
Thu - What is the best advice youβve ever been given (e.g. from a teacher of friend)?
Fri - What is your biggest tip for organising your study space/study materials?
Sat - What is your best tip on how to relax?
Sun - What is you biggest tip to someone starting to learn your major/favourite subject/degree?
β¨This is the first month but I might add to this later as the quarantine continues. Letβs all support each other through this difficult timeβ¨
~Last Week's Update~
I hopped onto the bandwagon and successfully made the dalgona frothy coffee on monday :p The whisking took a lot of effort but it turned out pretty good.
I also started learning korean officially!! Now I can finally read hangul, albeit it being a little slow. Hopefully by the end of the course I'll be able to speak/read/write 3 languages.
6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when youβre away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then youβre good, you know the material.Β
2. if you donβt understand something, it will end up on the test. so just donβt disregard and hope that this specific topic wonβt be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and donβt stop until you finish it and know it the best.Β
3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you βok now itβs time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now!β ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then have one of your friends be that person that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do.Β
4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF ITβS HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you canβt keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though thereβs finals because if i didnβt, i probably never would. like do i think iβm gonna be ready in one month? probably not, SO I BETTER GET ON IT AND START STUDYING!Β
5. do homework even if it doesnβt count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, itβs like magic.Β
6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I know how hard it is to kick the procrastination habit. I have to procrastinate. So I make myself start by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, βoh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), iβll be good and start today.β when that doesnβt happen, you say youβll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like the next four days. I get so mad at myself for not starting when i am given a new chance to do so with every passing day. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you need for it AND you were able to procrastinate the same way you usually do ;)
So, let me guessβ you just started a new book, right? And youβre stumped. You have no idea how much an AK47 goes for nowadays. I get ya, cousin.Β Tough world we live in. A writerβs gotta know, but them NSA hounds are after ya 24/7. I know, cousin, I know. If there was only a way to find out all of this rather edgy information without getting yourself in troubleβ¦
Youβre in luck, cousin. I have just the thing for ya.
Itβs called Havocscope. Itβs got information and prices for all sorts of edgy information. Ever wondered how much cocaine costs by the gram, or how much a kidney sells for, or (worst of all) how much it costs to hire an assassin?
I got your back, cousin. Just head over to Havocscope.
((PS: In case youβre wondering, Havocscope is a database full of information regarding the criminal underworld. The information you will find there has been taken from newspapers and police reports. Itβs perfectly legal, no need to worry about the NSA hounds, cousin ;p))

Assassins
βBelow are selected prices that are paid to professional assassins by criminal organizations and drug cartels for a contract hit.
In Australia, the median price to hire a hit man is $13,610 (9,800 Euros), with the price going up to $83,000 (60,000 Euros) based on the task.
In Mexico, the cost for a low level assassin is $208 (150 Euros), and up to $20,832 (15,000 Euros) for a higher profile target like a police chief.
The prices paid in Argentina are between $3,749 (2,700 Euros) to $5,555 (4,000 Euros) per hit.
Government statistics in Spain state that 40 assassinations take place each year, with prices for the hit ranging between $27 (20 Euros) to $69,000 (50,000 Euros).β
So cheap! I always thought things like this would cost more than $1 millionβ¦
This is super useful to know!
and not just for writing!!

HOLY FUCK
HOW MANY HOURS HAVE I WASTED TRYING TO FIND HEROIN PRICES ON THE INTERNET WHAT A GREAT DATABASE
@im-god-now-fight-me thought this might be useful
You, my dear, are the best. Iβve been looking in weird places for stuff.
It's the end of the week and I'm honestly quite proud of my progress, since I've gone from procrastinating on starting this course to actually finishing 2 weeks worth of notes for the lessons in a week.
...I am a little behind schedule so it was mandatory, but nonetheless I'm still pretty satisfied.
A little bit of background info: I'm referring to online courses offered by Yale University on Basic Psychology (free of charge).
Learning Languages and How to Make it Fun
(gifs not mine, credit to the artist)
How does a child learns? Immersion
So you gotta dive deep
Find songs that you like. You don't have to understand, you just have to enjoy the song.
Listen them at least once a day. The idea is for you to get familiar with the sounds.
Once you have already heard them too many times (without getting tired of them) look for the lyrics. In their native language, not a translation.
If you can read in that language, then try reading them. Print them if you have to or write them down (this is better) and as you listen to the song try to sing.
If there's a word/sentence you like because it sounds pretty, mark it.
If there's a word you don't know how to/can't pronounce, mark it.
For example, I have a journal in which I write Japanesse Kanji that I find beautiful (whether is because of the meaning or the symbol itself is pretty)
Once you are familiar with the song look for a translation.
Check those words you have marked with the translation.
While looking for definitions it's better if you find images (so can have an idea of what that word is) instead of a definition in your language (unless is a long/complicated concept).
Movies, you must watch movies in that language. Better if they are from that country. (It can also be a doubled movie, perhaps you could look for one of your favorites)
Watch them with subtitles (in your language) once or twice. Then watch them again but this time without subtitles or with subtitles of said language. (You already know the plot, so you can still understand what's going on)
If you like to read, look for children literature. It's easy and fun.
Keep reading even if you don't understand a single sh*t. It doesn't matter.
Mark again those words you like, don't know the meaning or can't pronounce.
Write at least one sentence every day. It doesn't have to be right, it doesn't have to be long or poetic, you just gotta write.
If you still don't know much about grammar (enough to formulate a sentence on your own) then write a quote from one of those songs, movies or books you read. Again it doesn't matter if you don't understand what are you writing.
If you already know another language, try to learn the new language with that one. For example, I learn german from english instead of my native language spanish.
Videogames. In my experience this is amazing. You have no idea idea how much I learned english just from games.
You have fun playing, engaged with a story, while constantly hearing the language. You don't even have to pay attention at what they are saying, eventually you'll figure it out. It's very intuitive.
And because games, usually, requires that you spend many hours playing you will have a lot of practice without actually studying.
Some games, if you look on the settings menu, even have other languages instead of english. For example I played Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in italian and french and AsC III in russian and japanese (the voice actors are fantastic).
Seriously, videogames are freaking amazing for learning.
The idea of this, is that you can imitate the learning process a child does, while also having fun and enjoying it. Kids learn by making mistakes, by playing with words and by being constantly surrounded with the language. At first, kids have no idea what they are doing, they just repeat what they see and hear. So it's okay if you don't know what are you doing, take that pressure off. This is not school/college, this is just you trying to learn a culture. So be kind and patient with yourself.
LEARNING SHOULD BE FUN, be creative with your methods and try everything (so you can find what you are comfortable with). It is scientifically proved that if you like what you are studying and having fun it will be 10x easier to assimilate and remember the knowledge you are acquiring.
Alternate universe where I literally just to go to school forever (for free) so I can just learn about art and literature and history and languages for 100 years. No job skills. No credit requirements. No student loans. Just learning.
Woke up at 6:45am simply because I couldn't fall back asleep after. A terrible decision, really, since I'm currently high on caffeine and unable to concentrate as well.
At least I got to watch the sunrise and complete yet another part of the courseπ. Pretty satisfied with my progress so far.
Day 3 of productivity β
It's a beautiful day and I managed to get some studying done before my fucking neighbours start hammering away on their walls and all.
It's too noisy to work now and I'm frustrated because I'm not exactly able to venture elsewhere to be more productive.
Today I finally got the motivation or rather the ability to stop procrastinating and start my basic psychology course for the week.
A pretty productive day - I've handwritten and typed out notes from the session.
Essentials: A mug of hot tea because I'm trying to cut down on my coffee intakeπ
Conversational Korean
νμ΄ νμ΄ λλ μΉ΄μ΄μ λλ€. Today I wanted to share some casual Korean I learned just by messaging in the language! I hope you can learn something as well, albeit these are fairly simple. I added some vocab under a few phrases so it may help some people who want to build up their vocab.
If something is wrong, please donβt hesitate to correct me, as Iβm still learning as well
( this whole post is messy, I apologise )
