Trans Women Face More Injuries Than Cis Ones (It's Not Even Close)
A new study found that injury rates among transgender women are significantly higher than injuries among cisgender women, based on radiologi
❝Transgender women in the study group suffered 8x times as many head injuries as the controls, 36x as many facial injuries, and 5x times as many chest injuries.❞
So much for "protecting women".
For all those wondering why the title doesn't say this, it's because the study doesn't say this either.
While the cause of the injuries may be obvious, it's not technically known, and science speaks for what is known.
Some (a minority) of the trans women injured reported that it was violence, and some (a smaller minority) reported that it was intimate partner violence, but most did not report anything and the stats are just from the fact that they needed treatment and so went through the radiology department with their injuries.
Getting a lot of reblogs saying "undescribed" and "no image ID" etc, so please be aware that I did add alt text shortly after posting (it was a pain to copy on my phone so I did it on my desktop), but by then, it had already been reblogged by a couple of big blogs, so this alt-texted version is languishing, please do reblog it!
its not funny but i do think about it a lot
This made me think about this panel from Calvin and Hobbes:
But unlike the adult in this strip, Calvin’s dad actually APOLOGIZED for yelling at him when he saw how guilty his kid was:
OK so maybe I didn't think that one through.
so i just rb'd this but op is gonna block me no doubt and i want to discuss it properly
as i said in the rb, punching up is very different to punching down. calling for violence against a class that has relative privilege over oneself is not a genuine call for violence, it is a violent decry of anger that does not translate to real world harm. Men kill women regularly, and get away with it.
racialised people get killed by white people, regularly, and white people get away with it with regularity
so a racialised person saying "kill all white people" is not genocidal, a woman saying "kill all men" is not fascistic. but yes, the opposite is indeed true
trans women are killed by tme's regularly, and even on smaller scale people who are not transmisogynised have privilege over those who do, so a trans woman saying "bomb that kills all tmes" is understandable,
whereas you, someone who is not transfeminised, telling transfems to jump off of bridges is indeed fascistic
Senshi facts
- he is 112 years old
- he’s considered feminine for a dwarf in dungeon meshi canon
- he spent most of his life living off of the ecology of the dungeon (monster food) after (insert ptsd inducing backstory) happened when he was just a youngin
- he doesn’t have kids and I genuinely think he’d be a bad parent because of how oblivious he can be at times, but he would try his hardest to keep them well fed
- he assumes that all halflings are children because they are small
- he doesn’t wash his beard and this makes it hard for magic to be cast on him
- he hates magic and sees it as a shortcut to getting things done the hard and right way
- he explains EVERYTHING he does when cooking so that those around him can learn from him
- he would make a great teacher of some kind of dungeon survival skills class
- he has a mithril cooking knife
- he turned a perfectly good mithril shield into a large wok he takes everywhere
- the fact that he is hot without his helmet is initially treated as a gag because of how silly he looks with it on
- he can be very careless outside of his obsession with cooking monsters (ignoring directions from his party members and not taking proper care of his supplies) (so real. adhd representation. not caring about anything but your hyperfocus. I understand king)
- one time he gave the birds and the bees talk to Chilchuck because he thought Chilchuck was a child (he’s literally just a young looking 29 year old halfling with three children) (eventually he realizes that Chilchuck as a halfling is essentially middle aged and they get closer bc he gets over his prejudices)(chilshi shoutout)
- he deeply believes in only taking what you need and giving back what you can. Don’t over harvest. Don’t destroy an ecosystem for your own gain. The ecology of the dungeon is important for everyone.
- again his hyperfixation is cooking monsters and he is in canon the best monster food chef in the world
- (MANGA SPOILERS) he tells a character who was (spoiler spoiler spoiler) and is left feeling like the scraps of food left behind on the plate that vegetable scraps can always be used to grow something new and should never be thrown away 🩵
VOTE SENSHI!
Also shoutout to chilshi everyone get more chilshi pilled right now
kinda bullshit the English language doesn't have a discrete word for an unlit campfire. you light a campfire, but what is it before you light it? also a campfire, I guess. I need to invent a word that can be intuitively understood as "the arrangement of wood that is intended to become a campfire"
well "an arrangement of wood that is intended to become a campfire" sounds like it's just a bundle of sticks and I think there is a collective word for that maybe
so can I just say there's a reason I wasn't going on and on for paragraphs underneath transfem voices project submissions about how "monstrous" and "demonic" submitters' abusers were, or how their experiences were "horror movie material"
first of all, TVP was not about centering my feelings about transfems' abusers or what they went through. going on about how disgusted and enraged I felt underneath submissions would have actively detracted from the voices I was trying to center. TVP was not about my voice
second, abusers are not a subhuman class of people. they are often very ordinary people that exist in our lives. even my worst abuser did not abuse me because he was a subhuman monster or a demon. he abused me because he had systemic power over me, and that power went unchecked by any of the people or systems that could have protected me. he was thoroughly, mundanely human
the world is full of TME people who abuse transfems in ways that range from minor to major. I do not believe this means the world is full of subhuman monsters and demons. I believe that it means there are systems and norms that facilitate and enable this abuse. this isn't "rot," it's systems working as designed
OP turned reblogs off but as someone with a crazy wicked scar that's been called "body horror" a few times, I really wanted this on my blog
in fact I think all of these are beautiful, cool, neat, or just neutral. nothing negative about any of it. also goes for implants, I've known people with implants of all kinds be made fun of, but that shit isn't ugly or gross either, it's just neutral and or positive
For context, this is Jewish actor Miriam Margolyes. A self-identified dyke, she was professor sprout in the harry potter movies but she's been extremely prolific over five decades. She's pro trans and pro Palestinian.
Never forget how she went and spoke to trans women / trans fems and when she said something that was ignorant (she mentioned the expectation for them to shave), she listened when they corrected her and apologized immediately. Then, when the group explained how they express gender, she went "I understand" and continued to listen and learn.
She's always one of my favorite examples of someone with celebrity status retaining humanity and speaking up for minorities.
I didn't know she was pro Palestine until now, so that makes me even happier to hear.
One of the staffers at our local anarchist bookstore just left the reading group I run because a trans woman asked them not to call her "bro" in the group chat

Benjamin Jacob "Ben" Grimm, also known as the Thing, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a founding member of the Fantastic Four. The Thing was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and he first appeared in The Fantastic Four #1.

It's important to note that Chekhov's Gun was not originally about foreshadowing, but a piece of advice to playwrights about how every element in a play should have narrative relevance. The corollary to Chekhov's Gun is that if a gun mounted on the wall in act 1 is never used at all in the entirety of the play, then it should be omitted from the play entirely.
also very true
Very funny example of writing advice that is very specific to its medium getting overapplied outside its scope. Can you imagine how awful set design would be if people tried to apply this to movies. 60 minute post credits scene in the Matrix where Neo has to fire every gun that appears in the "lots of guns" scene
