Text: Emerson & Matt
Matthew: hi. did you read the news?
Emerson: ...yeah. I did.
“Me neither really, expect from myself. Or not, I had no idea I would actually pour a glass of water on myself once I finally reached this hotel.”
“Do you surprise yourself like that often?”
Do I want to be honest or spend another few hours in bed? Hard question. I just don’t know what one to choose.
You can sleep when you’re dead.
Okay, but don’t ever joke about it again, okay? I don’t know what I would do if you were actually pregnant. Like, what am I supposed to do with a baby?
Alright, I won’t. Trust me, I wouldn’t know what to do with one any better than you would. That should have been your tip-off, actually. If I really thought I was pregnant, I would have freaked out.
Not Exactly Hamlet | Matt & Emerson

“What could possibly be better than That’s So Raven?” he asked, an eyebrow raised jokingly. “You would have forgiven me anyway, Em. You know I’m too charming for you to resist me.”
“Lizzie McGuire. Well...maybe it runs a close second. I can’t decide,” Emerson answered with a jovial wave of her hand. “Oh, that’s what you think? I’ll always forgive you because you’re charming?”
“No, they’d be cushioned by the bubblewrap.”
“Yes, but the bubble wrap will make me bulkier, which will make me run into more things. And the people aren’t me aren’t covered in bubble wrap.”
2 Broke Girls | Emerson & Avery
Avery eyed Emerson as she stepped out, noticing her stammering through a couple of lines. “I think you’re gonna do fine,” she said reassuringly. It wasn’t in Avery’s nature to comfort people like this, but she understood how hard Emerson’s situation could be. “If you need to, you can practice a few lines with me before you go in. I don’t mind.”
“I’ll be back to pick you two ladies up,” the driver said as he entered the car again. Avery quickly thanked him before he drove away, turning to face Emerson again as she did. She stared at her for a few seconds, unsure if she should hook arms with her or whatever while they walked towards the building. Avery would usually do it with whoever she hung out with, but she didn’t know Emerson all that well, and if she was being completely honest, Emerson didn’t seem like the type to do it either.
Eventually deciding against it, she smiled at Emerson instead. “You coming?” she asked, gesturing for Emerson to follow her as she started walking towards the building.
Emerson nodded gratefully at Avery’s request and took a deep breath. “No, it’s fine. I think I’ve got it down. I always get these kinds of nerves before an audition. I’ll get over it by the time we get in there.”
She gave the driver a nod of thanks as he left, watching the back of the car until it faded into the mess of cars zooming down the street. She sensed some form of an awkward tension from Avery, but wasn’t necessarily sure what it was. There was hardly time to ponder it, however, before the girl stepped forward and began walking towards the building. Jumping, but quickly following suit, Emerson made her up up the steps and into a businesslike building, following Avery through the unfamiliar environment and past many, many other pairs of girls, all of whom were either reciting lines or staring icily at the wall in front of them.
“Uh--why is everyone so serious?” she asked, staring unashamedly at a very hard-faced girl who appeared to be angered by even being present. “Aren’t actors supposed to be, you know, funny? Especially since this is a comedy.”
“Think you’re going to take the advice soon?”
“Definitely not. If I do that, it’ll be even harder to walk. People could die.”
“Shut up.”
“Never. Careful, Chlo. Your grin is showing.”
Yeah but it’s nice to hear from time to time.
...are you serious? Because if you’re being serious, let me know. I’ll tell you I love you every five minutes or something.
Why, Emerson? Why do you have to ruin the possibility of me having a day off?
It’s all in the name of keeping you honest, Harp.
How did I get so lucky?
No idea. I’d just advise that you treasure it.
“True. I suppose if you can trust someone with your face you can trust them with pretty much anything. To be honest, I don’t think dentists would hear as much because when you’re in the spa you come out feeling good, but when you come out of the dentist you’re like, ‘Wow, I need to floss more?’ and it sucks, so casual chit chat wouldn’t be my first instinct.”
“That’s fair enough. Dentists have laughing gas, though. They can probably get you to say anything if they get you high enough.”
“I’m always this entertaining of course. What else would you expect from someone like me?”
“No idea. I don’t really know what to expect from anyone.”
“Hey, what better time to pull out the deep philosophical aspect to something than when talking about Chinese takeout and food poisoning?”
“I can think of a few of them, honestly. None of them are nearly as fun.”
You’re not going to die of laughter, are you?
No--no, I’m okay. I’m done. I’m sorry.
