I’ve been trying to decide all day if Suvi would be the perfect library patron or the actual worst.

She would never ask a stupid/redundant question, she knows advanced search strategies (my librarian squee when Aabria mention Boolean operators cannot be overstated), she’s got a genuine interest in many topics and loves books……

But. She absolutely thinks that her wizard masters is worth more than a library science masters, and if this is an academic library Steel is definitely a trustee, so her self-importance is off the charts. She does not see the value in community programs and definitely thinks the collection is inadequate.

I think my conclusion is 90% of the time you don’t know she’s there and 10% of the time she’s driving you crazy.

I know that Gorgug/Mary Ann was done for the bit but there is something poetic, really, that one of the reasons Gorgug and Zelda’s relationship fell apart is because Zelda was aware of how objectively cool Gorgug is. He’s in a band, he’s in the most famous adventuring party in school, he’s the star football player. They bonded over being outcasts and Zelda watched as he became one of the coolest and most revered people she knew, while Zelda felt left behind and abandoned by him.

Mary Ann literally could not give less of a shit about how cool Gorgug is. It could not be the furthest thing from her mind. Those measures of success simply do not matter to her. Are you good at Quokki Pets. Do you have mango soda. She’s immune to the insecurities that led to the downfall of Gorgug’s last relationship.

It actually is Gorgug, but there’s a universal understanding among the student body that Fabian must never know, because everyone really loves them both. It’s just like,

Fabian is the coolest because he genuinely loves being friends with everyone and he puts himself out there, shitdance and all. He has the means to live very comfortably, and he opens his space to the entire school as a hub, a meal if they need it, study space, party venue… hell he hired a massage therapist to be on standby! He cares for all the people in his community without judgement and everyone responds to that. They admire his steadfast ability to put his everything into whatever he does, including his grades. And he runs the absolute most banging parties. Did you hear he’s dating the senior class president? Omg they are so cute together.

And Gorgug is the coolest in a whole different way. He’s a trailblazer, creating the new barbificer class and absolutely owning it despite active discouragement and abuse from a teacher. He’s the drummer and cofounder of the hottest rock band in the world, whose music literally has the power to change reality and remake gods. He’s a quiet and confident defender, and everyone has watched him come to the defense of and take the damage for someone. They know he would do it for any one of them. He’s the guy who hosted the Frosty Faire and fought off a deranged principal bot with dildo machines, then oinked the cops off the property. He sailed a real ship through a real storm of real dragons. For a music video.

So Fabian is the coolest in a very down to earth, personable way; he’s friends with everyone, he’s genuine and fun and good at everything because he puts his everything into it.

Gorgug is the coolest because he’s Epic. He invented a new class, he oinked the cops off his property and it worked, he changes the literal world with his music and tanks hundreds of points of damage in a single encounter. He captured the night yorb in his van.

But all of that was kinda too long to like fit on a sash or something so everyone agreed Gorgug would be embarrassed to be called the coolest kid in school anyway, and they all love Fabian for his support and friendship and realize that being the coolest is Super Important to Fabian, so if they can make him feel good in return, so it shall be. Works out for everyone 😉

FHJY things that are squatting in my brain-apartment:

"I would love you if your name was written nowhere" is quite the statement in a season where names were so important. Fabian is a mortal; erasing his name doesn't erase him the way it happened with Ankarna. But that statement sticks with me: the ways in which Fabian isn't his father's son, and the way he doesn't need to be for his father to love him, so he is Bill's son after all.

"You have time." Again, what a statement for Sklonda to make after a season in which lack of time was a central mechanic. But this is where adult perspective is a good thing: as important as it is, high school is going to end up only a fraction of your life.

Gorgug really could be a great barbarian teacher. He's fantastic at what he does, he's smart, and just as importantly, he's gentle, and has a perspective on rage that's more than "the better you are at hitting things the better you are." That said, I cannot even fathom the students-having-crushes situation of your teacher being the drummer in a massively successful band. Hilarious.
