I am currently working as a digital designer for the Daily Mail Plus, an exciting new iPad and Android application being launched 2012/2013.

Working with Adobe DPS (Digital Publishing Suite) and InDesign to create an interactive iPad app. I look forward to the launch!

Live Magazine Placement - 2 weeks

19/08 issue - The Sweeney

My second week at Live Mag I got to work on a lot more things and I even got the opportunity to design a double page spread! This was exciting and I was so happy that my final design got used for the Beatles Spread, as well as the Lizzie Armistead spread! I loved seeing my work in the magazine and being able to say to people 'I did that'. Again I worked on the fashion strip, a drive talk strip, Tom and Olly for the food & wine page and the TV guide. 

I would like to say thank you to Live Magazine for this opportunity and that I have gained lots of valuable work for my portfolio.

Live Magazine Placement - 2 weeks

I have recently just finished a 2 week placement at Live Magazine - Daily Mail in London. I had an amazing experience there and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! I got to work on their weekly magazine that you get in 'The Mail On Sunday' and as you can see I have some of my design layouts in a couple of the issues. 

12/08 issue - Clive Owen

In my first week I was given simple tasks such as fashion strips. I designed the Desert Boot fashion strip that you can see above and I also prepared fashion strips for a couple of future issues (you will see in my next post). I worked on the TV Guide placing images that I thought was appropriate for the program description given.

Even though I didn't do much in this issue, it was still exciting to see the designs I worked on printed in a Magazine that anybody could go to the shop and buy! Check out my next post for more of my work at Live Mag.

Vivid Internship

Recently I have been at the 'Vivid' studio in Manchester as I got myself a place on the Vivid Summer Camp 2012! This was a great experience of what it is like to work in the design industry. Although the placement was only 1 week, I worked on 2 live briefs and 1 in-house poster design brief, so as you can imagine it was busy busy and exciting stuff! My first impressions of the studio was very cool, I loved the traditional bricks and the arched roof! The Vivid team were extremely nice, very helpful and welcoming, (Abi is very cute as well!). I look forward to the Poster competition gathering later on in the year :)

Degree Results Yesterday I received a very exciting email. Yes I am graduating with a 1st Class Honours Degree! A great feeling that all my hard work over the last three years has paid off. I graduate 4th July 2012. Let's Celebrate :)

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - Penguin

Here is my final submission for the Penguin 2012 Competition. I have used disjointed geometric shapes mirrored on front and back, to represent the main character McMurphy, as he himself is a bit crazy and has a bad side as well as a good side. I have used the colour blue as it is very clinical to go with the setting of the book and the colour opposite orange, to compliment each other.

Screen Printing

Friday just gone, I had a great day in the print room. I have been experimenting with colour and printing posters for my personal pathway. Everything went smoothly and screen printing is something I would definitely like to do more often!

Experimenting with colour interaction for my personal pathway project. Overlapping primary colours to create Secondary colours which form an alphabet. I will be taking this artwork into the print room and experimenting with screen prints.

My visit to NYC 2012

I had an amazing time in New York so I thought I would share a few snap shots of what I got up to. Whilst in NYC myself and the rest of my group got the opportunity to visit 3 design studios which was very inspiring and interesting to see. We visited Wallace Church, Wolff Olins and BBH. I was very much looking forward to see everyone at Wallace Church again, as this is where I did my internship for 4 weeks last year, it was lovely seeing everybody. The work that was shown to us by all 3 design studios was amazing and a great insight of what to expect when working in the design industry. 

Myself, Michaela Mckone and Layla White got the chance to visit Milton Glaser aswel, this was an amazing experience and great opportunity. The Milton Glaser visit is normal on our trip itinery but this year he wasn't, so Michaela brought it on her self to send a quick email to try and get us the chance to see him and ask him a few questions. Milton obviously agreed and we organised a date and time. :)

There was one thing that I kept thinking about after visiting all these different design agencies. It is a campaign a previous intern did at BBH, it was a great cause and I would love to share the link with everyone. Again I did all the tourist attractions, Rockefeller, Times Square, Ground Zero, 9/11 Memorial (this was lovely to see), Brooklyn Bridge and so on.

ISTD - What happened on this day

Odd's Day

Here is my final submission for the ISTD competition 2012. To interpret the theme 'what happened on this day' after numerous design ideas, I went to a well-known betting establishment and recorded the punters conversations. This was a very odd day for me (hence the reason for the title and the play on writing odds) as this is not my normal daily routine, I had to blend into the background by putting the odd bet on here and there and reading a newspaper. I have been very experimental with typography and produced a very interesting read ...
