My opinions of the Amazing Digital Circus
I have seen this finale in theaters three times now with friends (I know, chud behavior) and I think I can finally comprehend my feelings on the show. So, obviosuly, there are spoilers ahead for episode nine!!
I think the main issue I've had with the show since the beginning is the root of the writing. It is so much telling and not showing. EVERY plot point and reveal is through conversation. Everything about C and A, the characters, everything. Most of the show is just talking about important things, which can be annoying for older viewers, and I do believe this is the reason the show is generating a young audience. The writing is incredibly simple and easy for a child to understand. The finale was NO different. The reveal that they will never leave the circus is discovered simply because Kinger said it. Why wouldn't you SHOW Kinger finding this information? Why wouldn't you SHOW Pomni and Ragatha being close friends? Literally, they just say "you're my best friend." As a viewer, I was a bit confused. They barely interacted, and while it was all positive, I always inferred Kinger was her closest connection in the circus after episode 3.
I do not agree with most of the fandom when they say Jax has gotten too much screentime. At least for me, it was clear from the beginning that he was going to be groomed to be a main character. I do think he is a very dynamic character that inhances the characters around him. We see Pomni's kindness when they interact, gangle's shyness, Zoobles stubborness and feirceness, and how even Ragatha gets annoyed, even when she tries so hard to stay postive in the situation she's in. I do think his part in the finale was sweet and nice. Is he a major douche? YES. But I think he was a good character for TADC, and I understand why he became a main character and a fan favorite.
Ragatha was such a wasted character. We barely know anything about her, and episode five was setting up such a good arc where she would find out false postivity is not the way to go about life, but it was completly scrapped and her entire arc disappeared. That annoyed me. As a Ragatha STAN her character was so wasted.
Gooseworx has an unhealthy relationship with her fandom. Activily talking ill of your fans on twitter (or x) is completly wrong. These are the people who are supporting YOUR art. Saying Jax was a self-insert completely ruined her reputaition an peoples perspective of Jax. And her old tweets about hating writing about women?! Its wrong, and I don't hold high opinions of her.
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE this show, but these are just some of my critiques! I have more, so I might write a part two.
