in honour of the 6-year anniversary of folklore, put your top 3 tracks in the tags
randomly listening to the playlist taylor posted on her instagram in 2015 and her music taste remains great lmao
realized people don’t know this playlist exists so
happy bday folklore, hoax is still crazy
imgonnagetyouback is so good guys i’m not sure why we aren’t discussing this…
the pipeline of “i was tame, i was gentle til the circus life made me mean” to “i hate it here so i will go lunar valleys in my mind where they found a better planet only the gentle survived” really hurts
genuinely one of my favourite details about Bram Stokers Dracula that isn't really transferred to the pop culture is that vampires have irridescent eyes, they appear brown at a glance, however when light is reflected on them they seem to go red!
another thing that pop culture latched onto is this idea that you might use a wreath of garlic bulbs to ward off a vampire, however, in the book there is a popular use of garlic blossoms rather than the bulbs. i think these are a lot prettier and way more versatile for stylisation! you could have a garlic flower crown.
also like the cowboy part can we please stop omitting the fact that there is a real ass cowboy in Bram Stokers Dracula and hes from real ass Texas and he has a fucking gun and he tries to fucking shoot Dracula
who cares about shooting Dracula? the absolute best part of the book is when Quincey shoots at a bat that was probably Dracula and shatters a window in a room filled with terrified people that he didn't tell he was going to shoot at their room, and then tells everyone in that room that ever since he found out Dracula can turn into a bat he's just been walking the streets of London shooting at every bat he sees with his gun
the comedy is further compounded by the fact that bats are native to London and Quincey, by his own admission, often doesn't even hit them, he just shoots AT them
I reread that bit over and over again because it was just so fucking funny and I couldn't stop laughing
Pretty sure Bram Stoker weeps in his grave every time they make a film adaptation without this glorious himbo.
the thing you need to understand about carmilla countess karnstein is that she is a loser. she's absolutely drowning in blood bitches but she has to be because she is an immortal vampire noble who gets by on flirting her way into continual couch surfing. she has no job no house no car and no money. she sleeps all the way through the morning. she hears people singing and it pisses her off so bad that she needs her bestiecrush to hold her hand until she calms down. she's violently classist and loves to use the "wait until I tell my rich dad about this" line but, crucially, her rich dad is dead as fuck and has been for all living memory. she's a serial monogamist and she's fucking coasting on pretty privilege.
"everything comes out teenage petulance" is such an insane lyric because it's like yes i'm an adult but i'm about to start ripping pages out of my diary i'm about to color on the walls in crayon i'm about to start posting angsty memes on the internet i'm about to burn your things in the backyard i'm about to delete every photo in my camera roll i'm about to have an identity crisis i'm about to scream for an hour and everyone around me thinks it's just spilt milk
midnights the album that you are

I don't think we give Jonathan Harker nearly enough credit for his absolutely unhinged choices. In 1897, that pathetic wet cat of a man was written with enough grit, willpower, and raw human stupidity to rival any of our modern horror podcast protagonists. When faced with a centuries-old vampire, in a coffin, drenched in fresh blood, he really thought the best thing to do was to hit it in the face WITH A SHOVEL. The audacity. The misplaced confidence. The sheer desperation. No plan. No hesitation. Running on fear and spite alone. And i fucking love him for it. Truly the character of all time.
I don't think we give enough credit to how unhinged the entire book is.
Dracula casually throws out the window Johnathan's mirror after attacking him, because he cut himself shaving.
Dracula crawls out the window of his bedroom, up and down the wall
Dracula pretends to be the staff of his castle
Johnathan keeps falling asleep in random places, even when knowing this can get him killed, because he's too lazy to go to bed
Johnathan hits Dracula with a shovel in the heat of the moment
Dracula wears a cape that makes it look like he has bat wings
Dracula stole Johnathan's clothes and would hunt in them
two of my favorite things about true blood are
a) how vampires are normal people. some are rich, well-dressed elites and some are goth/punk and some are rednecks and some are regular suburban normies. those who are alluringly attractive were already like that in life. lonely and self-esteemed deprived people become lonely and self-esteem deprived vampires.
b) they made vampirism a very on-the-nose allegory for racism and homophobia but still didn't shy away from depicting actual racism and homophobia. erasing real-life issues to replace them with the human/vampire divide would've been a shit move and instead they said yes. this is the deep south. you will see a confederate flag in the bar of a guy who is by all accounts not a racist because the culture there is deeply ingrained in a way that's hard to describe to outsiders. the black and gay characters will have arcs that go well beyond their race and sexuality but they will also explicitly face discrimination for those parts of themselves. congressmen will get on TV and deride vampires with the exact same rhetoric real-life politicians use against immigrants while also condemning queer people in the same sentence.
Thinking about the time i watched true blood and how pissed off that scene where he crawls out of the dirt to immediately fuck her and how pissed off that shit made me. How the hell are you going to fuck her with that dirt dick. This was years ago it still gets to me. How is fucking someone with a dick that was in DIRT (SOIL, MUD) and immediately fuck someone and that's romantic. I dont are that you're alive you dont know what was touching your dick. There are parasites in the dirt. There are worms and such. Is it romantic to stick your dick in a planter and the immediately go fuck your partner with dirt still on your dick? Don't piss me off. Maybe I dont know enough about the workd
