Connecting WKM characters with a French novel from the 20th century? You betcha!
A bit of context for the plot:
The novel Jealousy by Alain Robe-Grillet at first seems to only have 2 characters (man and woman) that are meeting at the lady's house (it's a plantation in Africa but let's ignore that part xd). They meet, enthusiastically discuss a book, drink alcohol and lemonade, and go out into town
Then you start to wonder. Why is the narrator always specifying there are three glasses on the table? Why are the chairs on the patio in a triangle formation? (Therefore, there are three chairs) Why do we never follow when the two characters go out into town? Why do the servants set a plate for somebody when the two characters are clearly away?
The novel is actually from the point of view of a jealous husband (hence the title Jealousy) who is suspicious of the relationship between his wife and their neighbour (it is never specified whether there actually was infidelity or if the narrator is simply overly... well, jealous)
Now, how did my brain manage to connect it to WKM:
As I was reading the book, when I finally learned that the narrator is also a character, I instantly thought of Actor, Celine, and Wiliam. Boy, was that sooo much more fun to read. In the novel, the only one who had an actual name was the neighbour. The narrator wasn't even mentioned (beyond the plates and seeing the events and characters from his eyes), and the wife was simply "A..." (also she had black hair, like come on. Celine)
Just Actor and Celine living in the manor and everytime Wiliam shows up, Actor can't help but focus on how much more lively Celine is when talking with Wiliam (happens in the novel) and whenever it's just the two of them together, he doesn't even talk with her, just watches, which might also be the reason why Celine is more closed off when she's with him (also happens in the novel, it's not even headcanons at this point, I'm just putting them into the characters roles xddd)
