casting a hex on my worst enemy: ooo your favorite book series as a teenager will be turned into a popular tv show. and it will be absolutely terrible and completely disrespectful to the source material, but will greatly exceed the books in popularity. so whenever you look for content online about said books series, you will forever be reminded of the mediocrity of said tv show. you will be forced block the tag for it on ao3.
oh but how absolutely monumental it still is to have all these big and mainstream pieces of queer television right now. remember how excited you got when there was one character who said he was bi or gay only then to be killed or written off or treated horribly by both writers and the public. remember how hard it was to find queer shows and movie that didn’t make you hate yourself or so angry or scared. remember how seen you felt about that one queer kiss or that one coming out or within one particular character! yes, devastating sad queer pieces are important. fucked up queer stories need to be told. queer period pieces and dramas with unhappy endings too. but queer happiness, queer young and old love, queer cringe, queer joy- we deserve that too.
congrats to dan and phil for not making the 100 tumblr ships of the year list for the first time ever, they’re finally free

thanks i’m just gonna cry now

I feel like all neurodivergent people have had that one really weird hyperfixation or special interest. I once spent 10 hours reading a hetalia fanfiction. I can tell you how cephalopod immune systems work. I have no idea why I know these things, or why I felt i needed to do them. Currently in the process of memorizing every single amino acid for no reason. Point is: hyperfixations and special interests are amazing and also make no sense and you do not choose them.
here’s some piping hot tea for y’all
why are tid and tlh SIGNIFICANTLY better than tmi and tda
like it’s almost unreal…. the mains are so much more likable, the plots are more interesting, even the side character development is better
i legit don’t get it
I think it has to do with Cassie being able to write period pieces really well. We also don’t really know how exactly people acted during that time so it can be seen as more realistic because we aren’t constantly comparing them to our current society. I would actually argue that TID has the worst plot, considering it was kind of boring to me and I cared much more about the characters and their relationships than the clockwork army and the Magister. But TID definitely has the strongest character development. Personally, I think TDA has the most interesting plot considering I love learning about Faerie and I find the cohort issue compelling to read about, but the whole Malcolm and Annabelle thing was a bit boring and didn’t really catch my attention. Overall I think it’s just easier to read books about a time that has differnet social rules and ideas about the world since we aren’t comparing what people say and do to ourselves as directly. There are people who dislike TID and TLH because of the period setting, I think it’s mostly just a preference thing.
when you read tsc books who was the first character you loved? First one you hated? First fav ship?
I originally read the mortal instruments when I was about 10, and City of Heavenly Fire had just come out, so I’ve read the books as they’ve come out basically. My first favorite character was definitely Simon, and I really hated Sebastian. My favorite ship at this point was also Clace because I was 10.
Okay, please DO NOT think about little Alec and Izzie learning about past Lightwoods
Do NOT think about them looking at the family tree and learning Thomas Lightwood never married
Certainly DO NOT think about them being told "Oh he never married, just lived as a self proclaimed bachelor with his friend Alastair Carstairs"
For the love of GOD DO NOT imagine Isabelle turning around to recently come out Alec and mouthing "gay"
AND BY THE ANGEL DO NOT imagine Alec asking Magnus about it years later and him confirming they were indeed, very gay
Imagine them learning about Anna Lightwood
