[engie picks up scout, carrying him bridal style.]
"we're going back to the base. if you have objections, say them now."
(He wheezes, sinking into Engie’s arms. He hasn’t taken his eyes off of Sniper for even a second. He looks sick to his stomach.
He feels like shit. He’s drunk, pretty much is having a panic attack in front of his coworkers (which is humiliating in and of itself), and just watched two people die and two people get injured. He’s not even all that sure Allan is hooked up to respawn.
He just wants to go home.)
"alright, i know, i know. let's get ya outta here."
[as gently as he can, engie carries scout over to his truck. he sets him down in the passenger's seat, and they drive back home.]
[the sky is a deep purple, with speckles of stars randomly spattered around. there's not a single cloud around when they arrive at the base.]
"careful now!"
[engie unbuckles his seat belt, then turns to scout.]
"can you walk on your own?"
(He shakes his head. He’s white-knuckled gripping the seatbelt, and he’s trying to take in deep breaths, but keeps getting interrupted by a hiccup or a sob.
He looks a bit more clam, seems that being away from all of the noise helps. He’s been staring out at the stars the whole ride back.)
"alright then. uh- scuse me."
[engie unbuckles scout's seatbelt, then picks him back up and slides out of the truck, closing the door with his leg.]
"we'll be alright, ok? just, uh... goddamn keys."
[engie fumbles with his keys for a moment, doing his best to unhook them from his belt while still carrying scout. he opens the door, and rushes inside, then puts scout on the couch. he rushes back to the door, makes sure that the truck is locked, then shuts the door to the base and locks it.]
"alright, uh, there we go. uh, scout? you doing ok?"
[he jogs over to the couch and stands near him.]
"can i do anything for you? get a water?"
(He lays down on the couch as soon as engie puts him down. He looks at enginer blearily, just nodding.)
mm...mhmm...
(He is like two seconds away from passing out.)
"water... alright, i can do that for you."
[he quickly grabs a glass of water from the kitchen, adds a few ice cubes and a straw, and on his way back he grabs a blanket.]
"there we are! uh, gimme a sec."
[engie puts the blanket over scout and sets the glass of water on a side table. he then steps back, and gets himself some orange juice and a chair from the dining room.]
"alright, alright, ok. that should be enough for now."
"scout, you should get some rest. i'll be here if ya need me."
(He nods, drinking some water, and then laying down on the couch.)

(He gets comfortable, then he starts falling asleep.)

some windup toys! see, this one looks like a dog!
and- one more thing-
[he removes a round, shiny object, roughly resembling a baseball. but when he presses the button on the front, it folds outward into a metal bat!]
here’s something i’ve been prototyping for a bit now- figured today was the day to give it to you!
[he smiles nervously.]
(He looks at it all for a moment, speechless. Then he starts crying and pulls engie in for a hug. Yeah he’s just. sobbing. He’s fine)
