Is it better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all?

I ask myself this when I’m feeling down about past relationships. It helps to put things into perspective because the question itself reminds me that it’s better to have had the experience, whether good or bad, than not to.

Going through the experience of becoming attached then detached from someone teaches us a great deal about ourselves. The relationships we find ourselves in are a reflection of the relationship we have with ourselves.

I was only able to come to this realisation after going through a dysfunctional relationship and appreciating the peace I found in myself afterward. Release all regrets and look at what has come from the experience, after all - experiences are all we have.

When I die I don’t want to have any what-ifs in my mind. I want to reflect on my life with a smile, knowing that I had a collection of varied experiences. All the highs and lows we go through make us who we are and allow us to appreciate what we love the most.

How do you know you don’t like something if you’ve never tried it? 

Whenever you’re feeling like the past is beating you up, maybe it’s the guilt, perhaps it’s regrets, maybe even the ‘what-ifs’ - learn to appreciate what the experiences have taught you. 

Even the most traumatic and frightening of experiences have something to teach us - hence why they were put into our lives. The universe never gives us more than we can handle.

Remember: You have survived 100% of your roughest days - the universe isn’t done with you yet.
