this meme came to me in a dream from 2014
Genuinely baffles me that everyone who plays DAI just glazes over the fact that Dorian is pro slavery
Like this isn’t a Dorian hate thing. This is just fucking bewilderment. Like I am enraged. I am infuriated that the game presents this gay character going through rejection and control and hate and betrayal from his family as a huge part of his character, something I relate to and want to see myself in and reach out and feel with—the only gay character with that kind of plotline. The only person they offer up for me to see myself in that way at all. In their whole massive fucking 300 hour game. And they chose to make him pro-slavery as his fault, in a bucket of every other character having much much lesser faults. So that I am forced to choose between connecting to and seeing myself in the only character remotely presented to me as representation for myself in this way, and giving a shit about slavery and those minority rights in any way that’s not utterly performative and hollow.
Like how fucking dare they.
And this is such an experience for me, but I’ve never seen another person even seem to give a single shit. So that’s one more thing I get to be alone in.
Feeling kind of dumb right now because nearly every "mystery" surrounding The Emperor is explained on the mind flayer page of the Forgotten Realms Wiki. The page isn't new, it was sitting right there this whole time. Highly recommend reading the entire thing, top to bottom. Following thoughts on the game are based on in-game info, and wiki info.
Is the Emperor looking out for Tav and their companions, or is he manipulating them to serve his own purposes? Yes.
Does the Emperor care about Tav at all, or are they becoming his thrall? Yes.
The Emperor has an extreme form of partialism, but is otherwise an ordinary mind flayer doing ordinary mind flayer things. He is the most fascinating monster I've seen in any form of media. As the mayor of Monsterfucker City, I hereby give The Emperor the key to our fair city. Such an inspiration to us all.
the funny thing about ceremorphosis is that it usually doesn't work on gnomes, dwarves, or halflings because of their size. you need a certain amount of Flesh (Tm) in order to complete the transformation safely or else you
1) become a chibi mind flayer that's super special because Gnomes are Just That Way
2) become a deformed chibi mind flayer that's not so special
or 3) die
of course you can't have ur players turning into OWO squids bc it'll kill the immersion, but when it comes to the short race tavs an unsettling question pops up, which is:
where are they getting the extra Flesh (Tm) to transform
Gnome Chibi mindflayers also retain their host personality the most.
"As a result of the warped ceremorphosis process, gnome ceremorphs retained much of their host's original personality. In particular, they kept their inclination towards invention and tinkering, as well as their original sense of morality. Those traits became mixed with the mind flayers' taste for control and experimentation, but they tended to remain peaceful creatures."
Gnome ceremorphs were creatures that resulted from a modified version of ceremorphosis, in which an illithid tadpole was implanted into a gn
