Burning Spice's moral ambiguity is so interesting to me because he thinks destruction is mercy. He has watched the cycle of change repeat itself so many times that he cannot live in the moment and is only waiting for an inevitable end, so he thinks it is best to end things now rather than later. The World Health Organization report I highly recommend because there are so many conclusions that are shocking and yet completely obvious.

For example, being exposed to corporal punishment as a kid makes it more likely for a person to commit domestic violence against a partner. In places where corporal punishment is normal, people are more likely to think that rape and intimate partner violence are normal. Kids who are spanked are more likely to be violent with and to bully other kids.

Spanking is literally teaching a kid that violence is okay and normal and it affects the whole society.

It also talks about how corporal punishment affects the brain in its development. It changes the structure of the brain and slows the development of mental abilities. Kids who get spanked have much stronger hormonal responses to stress.

Also thinking about it, Night Vale (and probably Desert Bluffs) doesn’t exist to the rest of the world in probably any universe or any timeline because of what happened back in 1983, so Cecil will have to struggle and explain to the people of London and The Mangus Institute why he doesn’t remember his birthday, and why every time someone looks up his name or Night Vale it shows that Night Vale was destroyed and all of its citizens were wiped out.
