I Hope Mentor Will Notice Me VI - Complete 2,000 duties via Duty Roulette: Mentor. Clear!
1000 clears as Sage, 1000 clears as Summoner.
A bit of rambling and Statistics down below :D
(Sorry got long)
Started 26.04.2025 and finished 27.06.2026 (between Patch 7.21 and 7.51), 428 days, averaging around 4-5 clears every single day. (I did more and less here and there, i did a lot less at the start of the challenge, because I was going for other grinds on the side. After I set myself a goal towards the end of 2025 (Get 1000 clears before the year end), I fully locked in for this. There was days where I didn't do queues, Patch days grinding for new gear and new DT Relic stage releases were the most there. I then set my goal to "Clear this grind before EU Fanfest" as I saw how much progress I made by continuing the pace I set for the 1000 goal. About 5 clears a day if my time allowed me, switching between the two classes I used for this. Close to the end, I was getting extremly annoyed how long the SGE clears it took me in comparison to SMN. There were days I spent 2h getting 4 clears, then the next day I got my 5 clears on SMN in 20min because I only got Guildhests. So I switched to 6 clears a day - 3 SGE and 3 SMN. This was much nicer to me, I should have done that way earlier haha.)
I'm playing on EU Light and queued during the week in the afternoon around roulette reset and after, very rarely at night. Weekends it was mostly around noon and later, or also around roulette reset time, depending on IRL. I also work full time, so this was my afternoon hobby for over a year lol
I made a Spreadsheet where I listed every single available duty and counted every clear for SGE and SMN individually on it. And with the use of the SUM command I got some neat data out of it.
Full Statistics for SGE and SMN, (individuals coming after)
The percentages listed under SGE and SMN are explained as " From 1154 ARR duties, SGE did 609 of them, which makes it 52,77% of all ARR duties".
There are, overall, a lot more ARR duties in the game than any other expansion (74 eligible in Mentor roulette if I counted correctly here, in comparison to 47 in HW, SB, 43 in ShB, EW, 36 in DT right now as the EXs aren't in the roulette as of right now). I kind of expected to get a lot of ARR content, but half of every clear I had is still kind of crazy to me. This has a lot to do with Guildhests people queue in a lot for some reason ... yet even if i substract the about 500 clears of the total ARR amount, ARR would still be the most duties of.
(I don't ... really know why people queue into Guildhests. It is imo one of the most outdated battle contents of this game. Achievements maybe. Grand Company Seals? Player Commendations? Which I'm not a huge fan of to grind these here ... just earn it naturally, it's not hard. I really don't like Guildhests, I'm so glad to have never see these again, they are just ... useless. They are supposed to teach you stuff (?) but all except maybe one this is redundant due to power creep and you can just dps down everything and not care about anything other. The only exception is maybe the Guildhests Hero on the Halfshell if you're the Tank where it is required to read NPC dialog what to do here or at the very least Party Chat if you mess up.)
DT has the most clears of the other expansions, obviously, as it is right now the current. Endgame players, lv100 current content. Expert roulette, Lv100 dungeon roulette, weekly raid farming. Definitely had an effect on it. I liked getting these, always a delight.
HW then had the next clears, which I want to say comes a lot from Alexander raids I got as SMN (39x). It is the first raid series available in this roulette, and from Normal Raid roulette experience, a lot of people only have that one unlocked.
SB I need to mention here, because it contains The Great Hunt and its Extreme. Great Hunt EX is the most Extreme I got during this (19 as SGE and 16 as SMN).
And then ShB and EW are about the same. As the Expansions progress, they become lesser to pop. I wonder if I continued, there would be maybe a slight uptick of ShB duties because it being added to the Free Trial ...? but that is just speculation.
~~~~~~~~~~
I differentiated the dungeons I got between Level Roulette content, High-Level dungeons, and lv100 dungeons. I couldn't sadly count Expert roulette individually, because through the patches the dungeons changed, so they are all counted into lv100 dungeons.
(* Level Roulette includes Bowls of Ember, Navel, Howling Eye, which I counted overall as Trials. Percentage is Dungeon total + those 3. I only got 10 of these in total as SGE and none as SMN.)
I wanted to see the sheer difference between SGE and SMN. Healer ... just are really needed in "lower level" dungeon content, while I got much more lv100 dungeons as DPS.
(I need to mention the DT Relic Grind from 7.41 here, as the fastest way to clear this step is to run Level Roulette. I didn't run Mentor roulette at all during my own grind and there is a 5 day gap because of this. I have no data of how the roulette was during those intense grind days. I did encounter a handful of "Paste Enjoyers", as I noted them down on my sheet, in much later queues, only noticable from their battle portrait at the start if they used the cheese strategy :D But I saw no real uptick of Level roulette content after this Relic grind dropped. .... Funnily enough, after my 5 day break, I got Praetorium four times in a row as SGE. So that was a thing.)
Another thing I picked apart are the amount of actual duties needed to do for MSQ and "side content", but the stats itself are kind of scewed because Guildhests exist. Still, I want to share it.
Of course the SMN non-MSQ Duties stat is completely blown out due to these, and even though I had a lot as SGE as well, SGE leaned towards the MSQ duties.
So I had to actually do one chart that is the same Except No Guildhests.
... I feel this is a little better representation of the difference between Healer and DPS. MSQ content is mostly Level roulette dungeons and some High-Level, as well as MSQ roulette in itself, some Trials. People have to do these and everyone has it unlocked, makes sense. With much more DPS classes available anyways, and Level roulette queues as a DPS are kind of painful because there are naturally more DPS players and DPS classes to level, getting a lot more content like this as a Healer makes sense to me. Without the Guildhests the SMN statistic is a little more equal and close to 50:50 and I want to think the amount of Raids I got as SMN has its effect here.
Overall I think the numbers speak for itself there.
Individual Statistics for SGE:
Healers are always needed for dungeons. I rarely had no instant pop of queues as a SGE, mostly ending up in some ARR leveling dungeon. Barely any Normal Raids (in total: A2, A3, A5, 3x A9, A10, O2, O10, E7, P1, M1, M12), which surprised me. People really do queue into Normal Raids as Healers huh, I have to at least assume this, because it is the lowest number of clears. Perhaps because Normal Raids really don't have high stakes as Healer...? People have more fun as a Healer in Normal Raids? Speculation, I really can't say.
I be real, I like doing and really don't mind low level ARR dungeons as a SGE, Kardia is so good for this.
I feel confident in playing Sage in all content and doing this grind definitely helped me becoming better.
Most Clears and other maybe interesting things I want to point out:
ARR - Sastasha 20x, Dzemael Darkhold 19x, Haukke Manor 18x. Ministral's Ballad Ultima's Bane 7x, Basic Training Enemy Parties 32x, Labyrinth of the Ancients 11x, Praetorium 34x, Castrum Meridianum 27x, Ultima Weapon 25x. I've cleared all ARR Extremes at least once as SGE.
HW - The Aery 12x, Thok Ast Thok Extreme 3x, Void Ark 2x. I've never gotten Baelsar's Wall as SGE.
SB - Castrum Abania 10x, Great Hunt Extreme 19x, Wreath of Snakes Extreme 1x, Ridorana Lighthouse 1x. I've never gotten Swallow's Compass as SGE.
EW - Dead Ends 7x, Aglaia 1x, Thaleia 1x. (I've gotten a pop of Storm's Crown Extreme, but it was no clear)
DT - Yuweyawata Fieldstation 13x, Vanguard 11x, Ihuykatumu and Origenics 7x, Jeuno and San d'Oria 2x. I sadly never got Clyteum as SGE.
Individual Statistics for SMN:
The Guildhests are forever. I really don't know man, leave me alone with these haha. The Raids I didn't get as SGE I definitely got as SMN here (HW 39x, SB 29x, ShB 19x , EW 24x , DT 47x). Queue times were mostly really hit or miss. Sometimes the usual "less than 5min", which they really were, sometimes the 15min queue into a Guildhest that lasted for 30 seconds. Unpredictable at times, but mostly I have to say the fastest way to do this grind is to queue as a DPS just because of the faster duties of Raids and Guildhests. Of course I have no data on Tanks here, so I cant put this into comparison.
I chose Summoner because, obviously, it is my main DPS class, and the benefits of being able to raise definitely saved a handful of runs, be it Extremes or normal content.
Most Clears and other maybe interesting things I want to point out:
ARR - Under the Armor 109x, Striking Tree Extreme and Akh Afah Amphitheatre Extreme 11x, Praetorium 20x, Syrcus Tower 9x
HW - Aetherochemical Research Facility 4x, Limitless Blue Extreme 5x, Alexander Cuff of the Father A2 7x
SB - Great Hunt Extreme 16x, Emanation Extreme 3x, Pool of Tribute 2x, O3, 011, and O12 5x each.
ShB - Dancing Plaque and Dying Gasp 5x, E3 5x, each Alliance raid 1x
EW - Lunar Subterrane 3x, P1 and P7 4x, the only expansion where I didn't get an Alliance raid pop.
That I got put into lv100 content as SMN I simply find fascinating. I didn't think this would happen when I started this. Are there really not enough DPS in lv100 roulette content that I needed to fill in from Mentor roulette? Perhaps people are too afraid of DPS queue times, which I understand.
~~~~~~~~~~
I queued with the option to refill a party and I sadly didn't track exactly how many I got of these. I only put in a litte note here and there, and from what I can remember is that almost all Alliance raids I got were refills. There were maybe a handful of direct pops, but the "oh 0min refill - yep, Syrcus Tower, what else" definitely became a staple to me. For both SGE and SMN btw.
Most memoriable refills:
30min into M8 with half the party gone, cleared first pull then
45min into Praetorium as SGE, ran into three friends who were first timers and played the game together. Their Healer ditched them at the final boss, I felt so bad??? This was on the day I got Praetorium four times in a row what I mentioned earlier.
42min into Lost City Amdapor Hard as SGE, three Sprouts really losing it at the final boss. I brute forced healed them through it, was out 2min later.
30min into Aetherochemical Research Facility as SMN, with an AST as Healer who really Really didn't know their kit at all. Was a moment of really being glad that SMN has a rez.
5min into Akademia Anyder as SMN, as I loaded in my co DPS asked me if I knew AOEs. I expressed concern that it would be really bad if I didn't (esp as a SMN), by which i got told by the party that the previous DPS only used single target. They were just finishing their first pull.
24min into San d'Oria as a SMN, hearing the voicelines from the final boss as I loaded in. I'm locked out from the fight, I can't even watch. ... when the fight ended, I jogged to the exit, was able to get a Scroll to drop, and even got a Player Commendation. Lmao.
several instances of 0min SMN refills into lv100 dungeons. There was a period of time where this was really rampant and I don't know why. A lot of refills into Yuweyawata and Underkeep, and even when I wasn't a refill into these lv100 I watched my co DPS dip at the start. This is still So So strange to me. It somehow stopped later down the line, somewhere around late Patch 7.4. Most memoriable of that was a refill into Yuweyawata, seeing I was the only DPS in this. Healer then dipped too, I got a Mentor BRD as a refill, then the Tank also dipped. BRD and I agreed to just ... also leave here then.
several refills as SGE where I got told they are really glad a new Healer joined the party. Generally I liked those the most like yay hi I'm here now to get you through this dungeon.
~~~~~~~~
I got in total 1513 Player Commendations as a Mentor in Mentor roulette. 1049 as SGE and 464 as SMN. Considering I did 1000 of each, statistically I got one Commendation in every SGE run i did and about 1 each 4 to 5 clears for SMN. Of course that's not really what happened, but that a Healer gets more Commendations I knew beforehand. Fun to have some numbers to it :D
Seriously if you ever need Commendations, just run roulette as a Healer. You'll eventually get there.
~~~~~~~~
I cannot tell you how the queue works. If it puts you into a specific duty pool and Only this sort of content you get put onto. I mention this because my friend Orchard @/snow-system-wol and me had times where we both queued into Mentor roulette at the same time. And while we had a handful of instances where we did end up in the same duties (12 in total), most of these queues we didn't end up together, sometimes even one person being stuck in a 10min DPS queue later popping into an Extreme while the other has run 3 DPS Guildhests in the meantime. One instance of a 20+min DPS queue, only for me to queue as a SGE and we both ended up together in Great Hunt Extreme (I was just joking that I wanted to clear at least two DPS from a queue, I didn't think we actually ended up together like this haha).
I understand they would probably want to hold some Mentors in queue if someone queues for an Extreme, in hopes to make the pop happen in case more people queue for this. I can't say for sure if this how it works, I can just hazard a guess from these few instances we did do that.
~~~~~~~~
Let's talk briefly about Extremes. I want to make a separate post about this eventually, so here just a few thoughts.
I've cleared 156 Extremes during this, 94 of these were from ARR, 62 from non-ARR. From those non-ARR Extremes, 35 were Great Hunt Extreme alone, leaving 27 non-ARR Extremes.
The ratio here is very clear, unassuming poor Sprouts getting into those queues for various reasons (Quest objective mostly). Some don't know about the Unsych feature, some are Free Trial and can't use Party Finder and continue to queue into these until they get their mount. All happened to me.
Some ARR Extremes can be brute forced if there are a handful of people who do know what's going, mostly Tanks have responsibilities (Tank Swaps), which is definitely something new and hasn't happened in any content a ARR Sprout has encountered previously. Learning how to read Party Chat, learning together with your party, communication. Some Gameplay Skill is also required in this, especially Healers. If a clear happens with a Sprout > Mentor ratio definitely has a lot of factors and really depends on the individual. If both Tanks constantly mess up even after the 10th try, there is a point where you don't know what to say anymore but to repeat yourself, ask once more if there is anything they didn't understand. As I'm playing on EU, language issues come to play here as well. While I speak German and English fluently, there is nothing I can do about French or any other language.
Some realize they aren't built for this, some refuse to abandon the Duty even after a vote dismiss, even if you barely reached adds phase in Striking Tree Extreme after 25min (we didn't clear that one).
And sometimes it works out when everyone learns and communicates, knows what they're doing now!
My proudest clears are Zurvan EX and Nidhogg EX tbh haha. I am after all also just a casual player and only read guides of these, so that was a nice feeling. (While I also cleared Pool of Tribute EX and Emanation EX, those were not even close as hard as these.)
Striking Tree Extreme (and on rare cases Nidhogg EX) were the worst to go through. The easiest is imo Ultima EX.
And while not officially listed as an Extreme, Urth's Fount needs to be mentioned here as I think it really is not that hard of a Trial, not deserving of not being in Trial roulette. Maybe getting rid off the raid-wide bleed and we're good to go tbh.
~~~~~~~~
Final words.
A grind taking me so many hours came to an end, it's been two days now as I'm writing this and I still can't believe it haha. It helped me a lot in feeling comfortable in roulette content. I've seen so so many different styles of how people play this game, good and bad. I feel nothing can faze me anymore. Tanks not using mitigation at all in every level range. Argued with a SMN about Physicks. Gear situations I didn't even know were possible. Sprouts unaware they can get jobstones in the first place. Cure 1 WHM in lv100 dungeons. Explained Dualcasts for new RDMs. BRDs who didn't use a single song through the dungeon. And so many more. I made a post at the 400 clears mark of a handful of interesting characters.
And yet I know I was there for 2000 duties and cleared those, helped out where I can. It was nice, despite everything. I like running roulettes of all kinds and now this is just a button for me that's "hey would you like the chance to queue into Everything". I do would like to see a few changes to queues in general, as I listed in this post and I still stand by it.
Anyways! Enough from me here. If anyone has any interest in any data, I'm happy to share.
i take my tomestone to ishgard and show it to a sickly brume child and i say theres this band called imagine dragons do u wanna listen and he stares shellshocked off into the distance and says i dont have to imagine them
