One of the most important things I’ve learned as a Real Adult™ is the importance of a job half done. 

Today I did a load of dishes, wiped off my stove, and swept the kitchen floor. Did I do the best job, or finish every dish? No! My stove still has that caked on caramel that I need to bust out an SOS pad to take care of, one of our big pots is still sitting in the sink, and somehow a kitty kibble unearthed itself while I was wiping down the stove (?? how??).. but the kitchen looks a LOT better. It’s once again an inhabitable, usable space.

Parents, bosses, teachers, even my own self, harp upon absolute perfect completion of a task as the be all and end all of a job well done, but god damn, my kitchen isn’t terrible because I took the time to improve it. Little steps, especially when you’re struggling, are important. They mean a LOT. They are a sign that you won, if only in that brief moment, and they make getting all the other stuff done so much easier later on down the road.

But also, why did Hulu slice off the first block of this scene? I saw posts about how she stopped and just looked at him from the doorway and thought, ‘hmm, must have just missed that’ so I went back to watch again and specifically look for it and still didn’t see it. The scene just went straight to her charging to the bed to kiss him. Which is great either way, but the pause in the doorway adds a lot of nuance.

I’ve been on a Jacksons music kick this week (to clarify, not Jonathan, I mean Michael and Janet and their brothers - I have season tickets to the touring Broadway series at my local theatre and the last show was MJ (absolutely PHENOMENAL dancing) so anyway) and I’ve heard Janet’s song ‘Again’ several times now. I’ve always loved the song - it’s such a sweet, simple, straightforward piece, but now I keep thinking it’s pretty perfect as an Elizabeth POV these last 6 months or so. I can almost see the montage in my head every time I hear it - if only I had any skills at video making!

I just can really see it - from hearing he’s back in PC, seeing him again, reflecting on both the really good times AND the really bad times, knowing how much hurt Elizabeth has been through and how guarded she was when he first returned and then, ugh, that line near the end.

I can just HEAR her spitting those words at him — and then voice going softer for the confession —

And there it is - in love again or maybe never stopped, really. So those last two verses - they really do need to do some talking.

(And also, what was up with bringing up the whole is he staying or not stuff yesterday? I thought it was decided he’s staying, he got a job and all, right? Or is Liz hung up on him staying being tied to her needing help and now that the whole suspension/Cyrus/dead patients thing is resolved, she thinks he’ll take off? How can she not see that at literally one word from her he would never leave that town ever again? So yeah. They need to talk.)

Also, I saw a comment elsewhere about how JJ has played opposite a different actress as Lulu every time he’s come back to the show but his big brother energy never wavers and it’s really true. I love seeing him with Genie & Mo & Becky, people he’s known nearly his whole life, but you would really never know that Alexa hasn’t been in the mix the whole time too.

Y’all, this whole temp recast thing - I tried, I really did, to keep an open mind but ugh. The kiss just felt so flat. JJ’s whole return has been flat a lot of the time, honestly, what with waiting two damn months to finally finish the world’s worst poker game before he finally got back to town and we got to see them together again and now this. I give Becky a ton of credit but even she seemed to be struggling with believing it was Lucky standing there.

And also, why does so much have to happen offscreen? Like when Elizabeth told Anna about digging through Cyrus’ trash? Wouldn’t that have been fun to see? Those are shenanigans I would enjoy.

I dunno. I know it’s only for a couple days and he’s already filming again, but jeez. I really am glad they’re inching towards a reconciliation but I just want my sparkly LL2 and this was not that.
