my baby Ash ( @i-am-the-sidekick ) tagged me and I love a good tag game so here goes!! This is hitting me truly in the middle of books and shows and stuff so I might have to say most recent instead of “currently” though 😂

Currently Reading: last July I was doing research for a D&D character and I bought a 2025 book called Folklore of the Sea. It was super cool and informative! Then at work (I’m a library assistant) I found a book from 1979, ALSO called Folklore of the Sea, by Margaret Baker. I just looked at my bookshelf and apparently the 2025 book is an updated edition of that 1979 book. So I read that twice.

I need to read more actual books though. The amount of books I read is far too low, especially for a library assistant with a book-buying habit.

Current Obsession: Hayley Williams’ album “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party.” Might be the quickest I’ve ever considered an album an all-time favorite.

Currently Watching: Critical Role 4, I just finished up the Vox Machina and Mighty Nein animated series, and watched my first ever season of Survivor. I chose the one where it’s all winners of previous seasons. Shock and awe, I was a little lost, but it was fun!!

Currently Working On: I just posted a oneshot I’ve been cooking in for a while AND updated a fic I haven’t updated in a year, so I’m not sure where I’m pivoting to next! As of last night it was another oneshot, but I suspect my focus is going to shift soon, probably to my spies fic :))

Last Google Search: “who invented dried pasta.” I was drunk and curious. Also I don’t think I actually read the results.

I normally don’t like to hype up my writing before I post, but I’ve been so consumed by Shayncer lately that I’ve written nearly 12,500 words in the last 3 days. I’m almost done with a little 4,500 word drabble, and I’ve ALSO written like 8,000 words of a brand new Shourtcer WIP that’s probably going to be a much longer fic.

I know sometimes I tend to treat writing like more of a job or a duty. So it just feels really nice to feel this joyous about something I’ve created, even if it’s just silly smutty rpf.

Also just as a teaser, letting y’all know that the drabble is based on this moment. Because honestly, how could I not?

The sun has begun to set, painting the sky a gorgeous purpley-pink. Soon it'll be dark out, the city shadows providing extra obfuscation for sneaking around and doing stupid things in the name of gathering clues. He has the warehouse's address in his phone already. It's a twenty minute walk. Seventeen, if he walks quickly.

"Well," he says shakily to no-one. "In for a penny, I guess."

He makes sure to holster the stun-gun properly when he leaves.

Please, bother your people. Friendship isn't about being convenient or palatable. It's looking another in the eye, feeling the string of connection vibrate, and screaming in harmony with that sound at 3 in the morning. It's "You look like shit" "Thanks, you're so complimentary as always" after bad break ups or a job loss or your cat dying as an uncanny acknowledgment of the person's pain and care about them enough to give it attention. It's risking your comfort zone to have a need met by someone you feel close to.

Friendships are a gorgeous mess, an emotional rollercoaster, an impromptu errand to satisfy a mighty need for deli chicken tenders and to finish their dumb story before they forget their train of thought. Friendship is not polite and doesn't stay in its lane. I'm consenting to being connected to you and getting to know you, which means you will get to know me, cross lines, have the lines corrected, annoy me, be annoyed by me, and we'll still make a late night run for bao buns and a bitch session. Because I love you, because you matter to me, because your brand of self-expression is friend-shaped for my nervous system and I need that in my life.
