so what an even MORE interesting arc this was on the rewatch.
because yeah, seekers table is SO MUCH the lore dump table. there is SO MUCH INFORMATION HERE.
but also I feel like this watch through, I picked up on some things highlighted about the characters that I didn’t hone in on during my first watch.
vaelus: every glimpse we get past her cool, collected goth baddie demeanor suggests that it is VERY much a front. we’ve seen wild child vaelus in flashbacks. we hear her talk about how her vow, her combat, her purpose is so based in raw, ugly anger, even as we don’t see her express it openly. it’s just so interesting to see that contrast with who she seems to be on the surface.
julien: my desire to put him in a fucking jar and shake him actually goes up even more as we realize the revenge-obsessed, belt-notching, hedonistic slut knight is actually the one taking the responsibility of greater concerns the most to heart. he would NOT have been my bet for the person most likely to put his own concerns secondary, and yet here we are.
thaisha: ohhhhh thaisha. I think she’s the inverse of julien, in that we EXPECT her to put the world first because that’s her path, right? but more and more, we see her driven by selfish, emotional motivations. telling occtis to step off the path. chasing down alogar. and none of these are BAD things! but it’s at odds with the image she presents, the role she plays in the world and her circle. it’s going to cause issues for her, even if it’s also causing her to basically save the world by pure happenstance.
occtis: the repression of his emotions, or perhaps the inability to figure out how to process them, is so much clearer this go-round. he keeps defaulting to apologizing, to deferring to others, to backstepping, and I don’t think it’s going to be viable to continue that. I want to see him get weirder and creepier and embrace that. the few moments when he does have been GOLDEN, and it’s just gonna get worse!
anyway. I fucking love my seekers, prolly gonna watch the tale gate tomorrow.
