something I’ve been noticing and appreciating about Brennan’s GM style is that whenever a player does something extra cool he makes sure to emphasize it, when Thimble was absolutely fucking up that Knight of Seremai on the verge of death he highlighted how fucking crazy it was that this itty bitty fairy was ten toes down on getting her revenge, when Murray used her portent to figure out that Photarch Yanessa was faking her death he went out of his way to emphasize how cool and unique and innovative Marisha’s use of the portent mechanism was, when Occtis had that Nat 20 intimidation against the druids at the Circle of Stones he highlighted how other Occtis was as the only Hollowed One in existence, when Azune was fucking impossible to hit in the Crow Keepers lair and kicking ass Brennan put it in the perspective of “hey these extremely skilled career criminals who are rolling very well are shutting their pants rn” there’s so many other moments but I love it so so much, it adds a level of gravity and awe to these moments by showing us how it impressive the PCs are in that moment and how they’re perceived from within the world of Araman making it more immersive too

the fact that termina recognized Bolaire not just as another cog in the machine to kill the halfling shaper but as her brother, as family, is so interesting in terms of the question of Bolaire’s agency and personhood. he denies being a person and seems to view himself (itself?) as a weapon that’s gained autonomy but at the same time clearly the Panto have some level of cognizance and will as demonstrated by this choice of familial relationship. additionally it’s clear that Bolaire actively chooses to take over the bodies without their consent even though there could be a body sharing type of situation, he just chooses not to. so clearly autonomy, but how much? we don’t know Bolaire’s role in the play that killed Rauwyn but I wonder if his actions, his cruelty, his superiority complex, his callousness with others lives are in service of what he was made for? yet all these moments are contrasted by his care for specific people like Hal and Demodus, his love of theater and history, his genuine appreciation for art. tldr how much does Bolaire actually control what he does, is he actually autonomous or are his actions still tied to his original purpose?

something about the way Bolaire’s voice changes when he speaks to Hal, with everyone else he has this faux aristocratic cadence that has built-in condescension and carefully curated distance but Hal he’s so open, his voice gets gentler and loses that cadence of his, is the sharp cutting mask who he really is? is all of Bolaire’s gentleness saved for this man who had such an impact on his life, saved Bolaire’s life and give him a new perspective? I’m curious to see if we’ll see Bolaire develop this level of attachment and care for other characters (hopefully the rest of the Schemers!) as we progress

the entire schemers table is SO CHILL about the fact that Bolaire just played a game of cards with the MISSING KING OF TIMMONY only Hal is like moderately freaking out and that’s seems to be more of a general sense of confusion rather than an actual “holy fucking shit that’s the guy”

so super behind on campaign 4 because it’s my final semester of uni (ahh!!) but I just finished the seekers arc and I find Thaisha quite unlikeable but in an incredibly compelling and fascinating way

in the beginning I got the impression that she was a fierce mother who cares deeply about her family but is torn between her passion for her work as a Druid and her family. she ends up choosing her work (which is completely understandable given the precarious state of death and the afterlife in Araman) but then we see her break the Druidic tenets that she supposedly follows and cares about multiple times (reviving Occtis, having previously saved Alogar when he died(?), attacking the Druid-bird guy on sight when from my understanding druids are supposed to have a deep respect and connection to nature) she says that she’s open-minded but is disgusted by anyone who still worships or believes in the Shapers, not all of whom were abusive and evil like Azgra, and is dismissive of those who don’t believe in the Old Path. she’s been in a really stressful and tough situation the entire time and she may be acting out of character at times because of that but I’m struggling to get a sense of who she really is

this leads me to hope that the contradictions and inconsistencies are a deliberate choice for the character, I think that Thaisha is not intentionally hypocritical because I don’t doubt her sincerity but I think she’s doing a lot of lying to herself about why she breaks the rules of the Old Path and Circle of Ancients. I hope she’ll eventually be forced to confront the fact that she’s breaking the rules out of her own selfish desires, making her very similar to Vaelus’s desires who she openly rejects (fairly so). that would make for a fascinating character arc and potential questioning of the Old Path which would be cool! it would also force her to confront all the ways in which she’s being pulled in opposite directions: a noble vs a Druid, a fighter vs a protector, a mother vs a traveler/explorer, etc.

TLDR: Thaisha is sincere in her convictions but not consistent in them making her both unlikeable and absolutely fascinating

I loved how this clip truly showed the dynamics of the boysquad and how each of the boys tried to help Lovro via their own love language

Jakov is of course the most attentive and he continuously asks Lovro if he’s okay and why’s he acting out. He also takes the liquor bottle away from him and tries to get him to drink water instead, plus he’s the first to run after him:

Filip defends Lovro in front of the others for moral support and is basically just offering words of affirmation:

Lastly Mario tries to help through acts of service such as saying yes to a shot so Lovro doesn’t have to drink it all, being the first to run and fight the guy, and of course he stayed behind to gather all their jackets after they got kicked out:

“may everyone have safe passage to the realms beyond” hoisted on a banner after murdering the entirety of House Royce and actively denying them passage, doomed to suffer in some kind of Fields of Asphodel type limbo is outright mockery ohhhh the Tachonis are going to hell (actually they might like it there)

very intrigued by Thaisha’s seemingly uncontrollable disgust at the idea of the dwarves begging Trozhna to come back. I would’ve thought that as a Druid and with her Old Path being a different way of connecting to the afterlife that she’d be open to different traditions/outlooks on death. Is she disgusted by the wish to reverse death, is that unnatural to her? If so, how would that impact her relationship with Occtis? Is it because they’re defacing and denying Tehana, the primordial of Earth, who I assume she has some connection to being a Druid? Or is it because of the abuse her entire race felt at the hands of their Shaper, Azgra, which has turned her off any relationships with Shapers? She clearly had some issue with Vaelus and her never-ending mourning for Sylandri especially in context of her saying that everything was worse in the times of the Shapers. I find it SO interesting that someone as traveled and learned as Thaisha has this prejudice against or disbelief of people who had a better and positive relationship with their Shapers. Fascinating character choice and I can’t wait to see how it plays out and affects the dynamics of the Seekers group

im really enjoying how sram is maintaining the relationship with eva, lovro, and jakov it’s refreshing to see the girl squad and boy squad be so close with jakov trying to fit into nora’s suitcase and joking about wanting to go to amsterdam with her and the bet between eva and jakov and lovro and eva having inside jokes the friendships just feel so real i love having eva as part of the flatshare instead of nora it makes so much sense for the characters they already have so much history and have been through their own problems and come out with a stronger friendship on the other side so i hope this means lovro will have more support when shit gets crazy

i absolutely love Ashley’s characterization of Vaelus in the fight! Vaelus immediately goes to bat for Thimble, knowing that she’s in danger, only a couple of hours after they were at odds over the stone and about Thjazi being a thief. she’s the type of person who means it once they make amends and moves past wrongdoings (perceived or actual) in light of information that better serves her goal, pragmatic above all else. she goes for the kill, i’m not sure if this is out of care for Thimble or because until recently, the concept of death was comforting to her given all the tenderness with which her Lady sent off the souls of the fallen elves, which seemed few and far in-between to begin with. she checks to see what the intent of the rogues is but doesn’t care too much about killing them because she isn’t beholden to these people in any way (“I don’t care about these people”) and they’re not of any use to her. her magic is dark because while her faith remains, who she’s given her faith to has gone. having neutralized the biggest threat in the room, the perceived leader, she allows the rest to flee, showing mercy when she didn’t have to, perhaps due to her faith? she’s just SO interesting! so many layers, some of which seem contradictory, i can’t wait to learn more about her everything

I can’t stop thinking about the implication that Hal wasn’t involved in the plan to rescue his brother HIS brother that’s so?? was Thjazi just a protective older brother who didn’t want to get his regular civilian brother involved in his shit? but also Hal is clearly well connected and beloved by people from all walks of life, so he had to be somewhat involved in the less savory aspects of Thjazis life or at least know that he was involved in all this shady stuff. its also such a interesting detail that everything Hal was doing, all his deals and request and favors cashed in was without knowledge of this plan which I guess means that Thjazi had so much faith in Hal that the rescue was the back-up plan…that’s wow. something about loving someone so dearly that even though they know every part of you and what you do, you don’t want to subject them to the worst of it
