Well, Ivy has managed to knock a tooth out.
So, last night when I was giving the cats their treats, I noticed Ivy was being really tentative trying to get them, rather than snatching like a hobgoblin as per usual. I tried to have a look but, being a cat, she didnāt exactly cooperate so I thought Iād leave it and see what happened.
Again, this morning, she was picking gingerly at her breakfast rather than shovelling it in (youād think that she was the one who had been a stray, given the way she eats).
After breakfast, she settled down on my bed. She was trying to wash her ear, but every time it got to the point where she should have licked her paw she kind of stopped with her tongue partway out and clearly didnāt want to put her tongue out so sheād go back to rubbing her unlicked paw over her ear and then the same thing would happen again.
So, I decided I really did need to get a good look at her mouth. I could see that her bottom right canine was at a weird angle just before she flung herself free. More cat-wrangling and by the time I had her gently squished on my bedroom windowsill (as per vet instructions for gently handling cats) the tooth was entirely gone. There wasnāt any blood or anything so it must have been really hanging on by a thread.
Iāve no idea how she managed to knock it loose in the first place. When she had her annual checkup a couple of months ago, they said her teeth were in excellent condition with no dental disease. But she does like to stick her head in places where it shouldnāt be (like licking the olive oil bottle) and she and Ruby roughhouse a fair amount. I think sheās also caught it on a blanket (tried to get up while she was sucking the blanket).
Anyway, weāve got an appointment at the vet tomorrow.
Sheās still willing to fight me for cheesecake mochi, apparently.
