being a humanities major who’s friends with stem majors is so funny because you’ll ask your friends what they’re doing today and they’re like “UGH it’s so stressful i have to stabilize the reactor core for my nuclear power midterm and then i have to build the supercomputer from i have no mouth yet i must scream for my electrical engineering homework :/ what about you” and you’re like “oh well i have to read a fun little book and write an essay about gender.” and they still think you have it worse
Being a stem major who's friends with humanities majors is ALSO funny bc you ask what's goin on with them and they're like "oh yeah my day's pretty good! I only have to read 50 pages for this one class today and half a book for another one. It's much better than last week where I read three books and wrote a 10 page paper about their overlapping motifs for one class while also researching a niche period of time that our library doesn't have any resources on. How's it been for you?" and you're like "oh I have a lil packet of fun math puzzles due tomorrow." and they look at you like you're carrying the weight of the universe on your back
This is your reminder that just because something falls within the skillset you've practiced, so you can do it and you don't find it particularly hard or stressful relative to other things, it doesn't mean it isn't actually hard work you should be proud of yourself for accomplishing!
this applies to writing and art, too
how could you say no to this face? it's fucking criminal

OP, FYI, if you post on tumblr you post in real life
i know i haven't said anything on this blog for years but. one of my friends sent me this tweet like a week ago and i haven't stopped thinking about it since
alright bc I literally cannot stop thinking abt nuclear waste long-term warning signs bc it’s literally the most profound eldritch shit I have ever heard about. I’m gonna need you to suspend your disbelief and imagine a society far in the future that has somehow gone through another dark age since now and gotten to about our level of technology but has little to no understanding of radiation. cool you are now on board so.
literally can you imagine being some fucking 25th century scientist discovering a field of massive concrete spikes in some desolate russian wilderness with inscriptions in literally hundreds of archaic languages on them? like. as it becomes a big archaeological curiosity you’re analyzing the text and the bizarre architecture and flying in translation experts from all around the world and trying to find out what exactly this place is. some kind of strange religious monument? a memorial, maybe? some outlandish form of art? you’ve literally never seen anything else like it.
as the months press on, the translation effort finally reaches a breakthrough, and the many research teams come to a disturbing consensus. the inscriptions say some translated variation of ‘this is a warning. pay careful attention. we believed ourselves to be a powerful civilization. this is not a place of honor. this is not a place of worship. nothing here is valued. this is a repulsive place. the danger is still here, in your time as it was in ours. it is below you. it is a danger to the flesh. it can kill. this place should be forgotten’ over and over and over in every conceivable ancient language. no one is sure how to interpret it.
that is, no one is sure how to interpret it until years after the fact. a shocking number of the people who spent those long months working there are beginning to die off. the rate of cancer among your small population is astronomical – it’s like a curse has struck you. researcher after researcher dies, knowing exactly the perpetrator of their end as they waste away.
the wind howls like laughter between the great concrete spires of the abandoned archaeological site. the forest of death is left empty and desolate once more. the hundreds of carved warnings sit silent, unheeded, the echoes of a long-dead civilization’s pleas to look away, to not turn back and glance at sodom, to let their sleeping god die.
this place is not a place of honor

I just came up with a really inconvenient, possibly unplayable four-player game: The Evil Advisor
All you need is a completely normal chess board and a deck of cards that you can somehow divide into an even amount of cards that mean "yes" or "no". Out of the four players, only two need to know how to play chess - those play the role of advisor. The other two play as rulers. At the start of the game, both advisors pull a random card from the deck, which dictates whether their goal is to win the game, or lose it. They keep their respective card, showing it to nobody else.
The rulers, who ultimately choose where to move the pieces, always aim to win the chess game, and also know that the advisor may or may not be on their side, and don't know whether to trust the advisor or not.
If the ruler wins the chess game, they win the whole game. An advisor only wins if they reach their own goal - if an advisor's goal was to lose, but the ruler wins, the advisor loses, and vice versa.
LOL but seriously release the hounds
