ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves

back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore

if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??

don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM

so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!

this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together

and then in the end you put it together like this!!

and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy

The change to google becoming an entire new AI response thing that completely destroys its prior function and everything connected to it just reminds me of when Deviantart rolled out its major Eclipse update and overhauled its entire search function Devart's original art categories were arbitrary at best and weirdly hyperspecific and unnecessary at worst, but for the most part you'd get things in the right place to be able to search for them. i.e. you'd find art tutorials in the art tutorials and resources category. The update overhauled the search to be keyword based, an update that was not retroactive for the millions of already-uploaded art, often by people who were no longer active. They didn't repurpose those categories to include them as tags by default to the art that was in them; they just severed them and left them behind. So now you go to search for a tutorial, but there's no tags associated with any of the old resources. It could find relevant searches, but only if they said the right words in the title or description, which wasn't always. Years and YEARS of art and resources, references, the ability to easily access a huge scope of inspirational pieces and collect visual libraries, suddenly destroyed. The wider sense of community was suddenly choked down to a pinhole scope of who you follow and what shows up in popular. On top of that, I recall a statement that their algorithm would try and push low view pieces to the forefront, so there was no middle ground between the popular and very unpopular.

I remember trying to look up clover references, so I searched clover. Prior to the update it would have given me photography and stock images in abundance, interspersed with art, and I could further limit my field to be ONLY photography or stock images. This time around: it gave me Clover, the character from Totally Spies, specifically involved in inflation art, because that's what the algorithm decided to push at me since it wasn't massively popular and it clearly needed more attention. I couldn't narrow my search, because the references I wanted were old and thus had no keywords. Mass-uploaded photos by amateurs and professionals alike often just had numbers for a title. There was no way out. It was just me against the Clover inflation art.

Google is doing the same: turning its entire function as a resource into a slurry that channels down into one single process that isn't what anyone asked for. There's no scope, no way to filter what is and isn't relevant to what you want, no way to pick and choose between a huge range of results, and thus it's losing its entire purpose. It's just kind of sad.

This is probably a little too much nuance, but whenever I see a "all borders are violence" post (a political position I generally agree with!) I always add a little asterisk that says "*but the border checks that keep you from bringing homegrown produce into big agricultural areas to avoid the transmission of parasites and invasive species are actually fine and if we were more vigilant about that kind of thing maybe we wouldn't have spotted lanternflies in the states."

That doesn't work as well as a slogan, though

Several AI services (chatbots 🫩) are purposely addictive, the same way people can become addicted to gambling or shopping. We’ve literally seen in real time how ChatGPT has caused psychosis and delusions in people; it can have a huge affect on someones’s mental stability. Just because it isn’t substance-based doesn’t mean that doesn’t count as an addiction, and shaming people who are trying to move on and improve themselves is counterproductive. The adults in this reboot of the franchise are FULLY accountable for choosing to do this show and accepting a pay cheque over supporting a minority group. Even if they claim they support trans rights, they’re cowards and don’t actually support them at all.

The kids do NOT deserve abuse or hate, whether it’s because you’re comparing them to Dan/Rupert/Emma or because you’re boycotting due to the author’s views. They are literal CHILDREN.

Your nostalgia over a children’s series about kids going to school is NOT more important than trans people being respected and having rights. As long as JKR is still alive, she profits off of this.

From yestersday. This follows on from the UK supreme court ruling last year that equalities laws would be based on 'biological sex only.'

That supreme court ruling got through, not because 'everyone believes in it.' But because JKR directly payed MASSIVE amounts of money into right wing thinktanks, politicians, and TERF influencers.

Harry Potter directly funds transphobia and anti-trans laws in the UK.

She pours her money into the J.K Rowling women's fund. Meaning Harry Potter revenue directly pays for right wing transphobic pearl clutchers to take trans people to court and to stamp out the rights of trans people in the UK.

It is also hurting cis women in the UK because now we're all fucking paranoid about being 'transvestigated,' being abused in public (for 'not looking cis enough') or being denied services because some snotty billionaire decided she gets to decide who is or is not a 'woman' (based entirely on her weirdo, white, billionaire-class definition of the word.)

Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!

Hey staff. This one really needs to be reversed. Tumblr isn't built for a quote-retweet equivalent like this.

Ultimately, it just feels a lot worse to use, conversations are more segmented, you can't keep track of things by referring to the original post anymore, artists lose traction faster on their original posts this way, the community feels smaller as a result, and jokes don't land the same.

This wouldn't affect me, I could easily out-reply most users and take attention away from the original poster - this is a bad thing, and is another reason why it shouldn't exist.

If you value the community, you should have tested and sought feedback PRIOR to pushing it out as a public release. This makes tumblr less novel, less comfortable and more like twitter (in a bad way)
