Honestly I can count on one hand the amount of men in my life who have never done/said something that has made me viscerally uncomfortable. I’m tired of meeting men and thinking they can be good people and then feeling crushed and disappointed because I had the audacity to hope for something like that.

I complain to a male coworker about a female manager and he tells me to fuck her to “put her in her place”. He tells me to “shove a knife in her pussy to get her to shut up”. I and a female coworker are talking to another male coworker about rape and he jokes about how “some women can get into it and discover a kink” and I feel this sharp tug in my chest like I’m about to cry. I joke around with yet another male coworker about sex and he starts talking about how he’s “stealthed” (read: raped) women before.

They’re all around my age. I’m tired of it. I’m tired of the jokes and the cruelty and I’m tired of being reminded that they don’t see me as fully human. Women’s pain is a fucking joke to them and I hate that so much.
