Ok but Zuko using the knowledge he acquired during his banishment to help him as the Fire Lord. Like making small talk with Earth Kingdom dignitaries about their local foods that he enjoyed and even misses. Like having in-depth conversations with his captains about sea currents and navigation. Like, in the middle of a meeting with several high-ranking naval officials, pointing out flails in security, like how a person can cling to a Fire Nation ship for hours at a time, or climb aboard using hatches on the upper decks, or disguise themselves as a lower ranking guard with easily accessible spare armour….

Though none of his experiences can prepare Zuko for the long, awkward silence that comes after he admits to doing or at least knowing something illegal and/or completely buck wild

Zuko: “Of course I heard of him. Its just… I mean considering all the good he did. His heart was in the right place?”

im working through the au asks in the meantime more tommyinnit:

- yknow tommys “let me hold your head in my hands, thats an incredible idea, my friend!” to ranboo?

- and ranboo like ducking down hesitantly to do it

- what if tommy just does that to people hes proud of? like its an affectionate gesture when he thinks someone did a good job

- and at first it surprises and confuses people

- cause why would they need validation from a small annoying gremlin child

- but tommy does it and then they Get It

- cause its so comforting to have tommy hold their head gently and you’re faced with his proud beaming smile

- people start thinking of it as an equivalent to a gold star but better

- he does it to ranboo, tubbo, and micheal so often cause tommys always proud of them

- in fact they even come to expect it whenever they see him

- tubbo rambling about his family and his commune and how hard he’s worked and tommy just gently turns his face with his hands and gives him a little smooch in the forehead

- and tubbo was so giddy the whole week after that

- when people ask tommy why he does it he shrugs it off like its a normal thing

- people think its reserved for family and friends? no he does it to everyone

- because everyones a friend

- whenever tommy visits the hotel he always goes straight to jack manifold and holds his head in his hands and goes “jack manifold!”

- and its teasing and affectionate and jack cant help but doubt his murder plans again cause validation is so good

- tommy does it to sam nook a LOT

- its incredibly endearing to see him bounding up to the robot and gently placing his palms to sam nook’s face then goes hello!! sam nook!!

- niki, still a little angry, meets tommy and tommy goes “i heard you’ve started anew!” then holds her face in his hands

- and niki knows he does this but she doesn’t realise how much she’s missed it cause tommy stopped doing it during the wars and hes finally doing it again

- puffy convinces tommy to do the act to himself so he can tell that he’s proud of himself

- so one would sometimes see tommy holding his face in his hands

- tommy seeing fundy and holding his face for the longest time and fundy starts crying cause someone is proud of him

- tommy does it to micheal for the littlest things

- when he and eret made up, he does it to eret again for the first time since the betrayal

- so much emotions there

- he does it to quackity for the first time and quackity, not understanding, does it to him back and they stand there in silence for a few seconds before bursting into laughter

- tubbo later explains but its too late its become a thing where they do it to each other

- he hesitantly does it to sapnap after sapnap silently moves on from dream and the man is ever so thankful

- when wilbur died, tommy later sought him out in the button room. he then brought his big brothers face into his hands and touched their foreheads together. it was cold, and he was crying. this was the first time hes done it after pogtopia.

When dream breaks out... Sam is gonna be broken. He basically only cares for keeping Dream in the prison, when he gets out-

Sam is gonna go down two routes

Go apeshit, killing, searching, relentless to find dream. Holding people hostage, torturing them, anything to have any hint of where dream is. From his perspective, everyone wanted dream out of the prison, no one can be trusted, they all are liars

Shut down. Full, unbridled, emotional close up. He stands at his post, he pretends Dream is still in the prison. That everything is fine. People try and talk to him. It doesn’t work, he denies it. They realize he’s useless, and they direct their anger onto a man who stopped listening. He shuts down to avoid going insane

Now I’m curious, what roads could this lead us down?

He could:

Become a new villain by going apeshit, a villain against the villains and against everyone on the server. A villain on no ones side

Spiral into a depression, staying in his state of warden, defending an empty prison, and Ponk or someone who knows Sam and cares, has to come and snap him out of it. I hope that after hes snapped out of it, he wouldn’t be trusted to find Dream, clearly too emotionally broken to find someone as emotionally manipulative as Dream.

There’s an awful lot of opportunity with him fully taking on the warden role and giving up any outward emotion. I reaallyyy hope they use it well. Like, I haven’t gotten into half the stuff that could happen, it’s insane.

ok in regards to what happened in ponk's most recent lore stream I just gotta say I love sam's character so much from a writing standpoint

I recently made a whole analysis post about c!sam which you all can read here where I discussed how c!sam was trying so hard to do the right thing and kept being put in impossible situations, and eventually he was going to crack under the pressure

I think we can safely say he's cracked

c!sam has tried to do the right thing over and over again and keeps getting fucked over. honestly, I agree with people saying that c!sam shouldn't be in charge of the prison, but not because I think c!sam is incapable. I don't think one person should have all of this power and be responsible for making all of these impossible decisions. c!sam should never have been the sole warden of the prison, he should never have been the only person responsible for keeping c!dream inside. he tried to do his job, to keep c!dream in and he keeps failing, so he's going to more extreme methods to continue fulfilling his duty. all of this pressure, all of this stress with being responsible for c!tommy's death, and then being manipulated by c!quackity into letting him torture dream, all while still not understanding what caused those tnt explosions on that fateful day that got c!tommy locked inside the cell.

c!sam knows he's failed so many times over, but who can he turn to? all of his friends are either possessed by the egg, or can't be trusted to guard c!dream. so in his mind, he's just doing everything he can to keep the prison secure, which includes torturing c!ponk to make sure c!dream can't get out

is it right? no. I'm not defending c!sam's actions here. but from a writing standpoint this dark turn was completely foreseeable given everything c!sam has been put through, and I honestly love it for that. c!sam honestly has such a tragic character arc, and I admire cc!sam so much for how well it's been played out

Origins Smp being a mish-mash of DSMP characters from different times...

So Phil is from before he joined DSMP

Wilbur is after he died

Tommy is from exile (what if he can't fly properly becuase Dream clipped his wings in exile :eyes: ????)

Schlatt is from when he was first on DSMP

Ranboo is from when he first joined

Niki is from L'Manburg

Jack is from when he crawled out of Hell (spawning in the Nether, anyone?)

This was a bit of a crack theory but DSMP x Tales x whatever we're calling the new one crossover is just too much of an opportunity to pass over

Okay … so I’m at the part, where the Syndicate is informed about Tommy’s demise and … it’s not ideal.

Like, the fact that Techno and Philza were more or less indifferent isn’t really the problem. I honestly expected as much; it’s in character.

The problem - for me - is that they decided to play it so meta and memey. Like, just completely undermining the emotion that Ranboo was clearly going for and the emotional impact and dramatic weight that Tommy’s death should hold.

Comedy is important in a drama (just look at Shakespeare), but it’s vital, that the comedy is used to heighten the drama and not detract from it.

Perfect example: Sam Nook. On it’s face ridiculous; it’s Sam playing Animal Crossing soundeffects as a barely altered rip-off of a pre-existing character. During the entirety of Tommy’s Hotel-Arc, he was played for comedy. But then, with Tommy’s death, Sam very effectively uses that previously established light-hearted, comedic element to facilitate a moment of tragedy.

That’s what comedy in a drama is supposed to accomplish (or one of the things, at least - comedy can also be used to break tension, but that’s usually not in direct connection to the plot points with dramatic stakes).

Techno and Phil (and Tubbo to a lesser extent and probably not intentionally), don‘t do that. They use their comedy to weaken the moment, to undermine any sort of dramatic tension that was built up. It speaks of a lack in courage to let a scene have weight.

Someone, who does it better, is Nicki. She doesn’t dwell too much on it and also dismisses the death, but it feels character motivated and more importantly within the tone of storyline.

In conclusion: The problem isn’t the content, the problem is the style.

the fact that there’s a whole anarchy syndicate dedicated to anti-government and anti-tyranny on the smp is very funny beause the server currently consists of:

- said anarchy syndicate

- the remains of the greater dream smp (ruled by a king who is only around like sometimes)

- a huge hole in the ground where the one nation with an actual government used to be (which two of the syndicate members destroyed for being a government)

- the eggpire, which is like 4 people possessed by some eldritch demon thing

- snowchester, aka like a couple communists who also have nukes (who have them mainly out of fear of what happened because of two members of the syndicate)

- kinoko kingdom, which is three fiances in a mushroom library and georgenotfound is also there

imo one of the biggest flaw of the syndicate is that it's made up of people techno chose who he chose because they agreed with him or he in turn agreed with their morals. for a group like that, one who wants to preserve the freedom of choice for everyone on the server, you have to have people from every place in the server within its ranks to help make decisions. that means they need someone from snowchester, they need someone from the badlands, they need someone from the greater smp, they need someone from kinoko kingdom, they need someone who isnt affiliated with any of these places like ponk and hbomb. because if they don't let them have a say, it's just the syndicate forcing their moral code and actions onto the whole server, and that isnt right.

I have always been HUGELY skeptical of Techno and Phil’s Anarchy, because they only seem interested in taking away Government structures, without putting in place any NEW ones to catch the people who were relying on the old ones.

It’s the same ethos as when the heroes of a story kill the Evil King and all his advisors, look around at the burning city with no leaders and a population who have been dependent on those leaders for years, evil or not, and say “Look! We brought freedom to the lands!” and then leave because that’s how freedom works, right? You take away the bad thing, and then the good thing just... re-emerges without any problems?

But look at what happened when they destroyed L’manberg. Where does Tubbo go? He has been a member of countries since nearly the beginning of the story, it’s how he’s been taught to understand communities. They take no time to ACTUALLY teach Tubbo how to be... whatever it is they think people should be, and instead leave him alone and homeless.

So he goes back to what he knows! He creates a new country! And y’know what, it does end up looking like a government. But Tubbo doesn’t know any alternatives because no one has ever bothered to teach him any. They just teach him how to keep secrets better.

An ACTUAL council, with representatives from all corners of the SMP, could be ideal. There are obviously ways that this could backfire too, but it’s better than a small group of people deciding whats best for everyone without getting the input of the people who their actions will effect.
