This is an ace attorney trial
âNow comes the exquisite twistâ
Hereâs a transcription, as the text in the image is way too small:
Murder or Suicide?
At the 1994 annual awards dinner given for Forensic Science, AAFS President Dr Don Harper Mills astounded his audience with the legal complications of a bizarre death. Here is the story.
On March 23, 1993 the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending to commit suicide.
He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency.
As he fell past the ninth floor his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a window, which killed him instantly. Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net had been installed just below the eighth floor level to protect some building workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide the way he had planned.
âOrdinarily,â Dr Mills continued, âA person who sets out to commit suicide and ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended, is still defined as committing suicide.â That Mr. Opus was shot on the way to certain death, but probably would not have been successful because of the safety net, caused the medical examiner to feel that he had a homicide on his hands.
In the room on the ninth floor, where the shotgun blast emanated, was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were arguing vigorously and he was threatening her with a shotgun. The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger he completely missed his wife and the pellets went through the window striking Mr. Opus. When one intends to kill subject âA: but kills subject âBâ in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject âB.â
When confronted with the murder charge the old man and his wife were both adamant and both said that they thought the shotgun was unloaded. The old man said it was a long-standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her. Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared to be an accident; that is, if the gun had been accidentally loaded.
The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old coupleâs son loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the fatal accident. It transpired that the old lady had cut off her sonâs financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother.
Since the loader of the gun was aware of this, he was guilty of the murder even though he didnât actually pull the trigger. The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus.
Now comes the exquisite twist.
Further investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus. He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his motherâs murder. This led him to jump off the ten story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by a shotgun blast passing through the ninth story window. The son had actually murdered himself so the medical examiner closed the case as suicide.
A true story from Associated Press, Reported by Kurt Westervelt.
Bizarre or what?

Eren and Mikasa on the cover of vogue for being the hottest couple alive!
I have been crying bc I found pics of little frogs with little hats
Hey, so Iâm kinda new around this fandom, but old habits die hard and I wanted to write again and Iâve finally found my inspiration from this goddamn show and eremika. Iâve fallen into a pit and I canât escape! Theyâre disgusting and I love them! This is my first time really writing these characters so bear with me. Oh, and Iâm just gonna say this is after or in between some of the war with Marley idk.
I got the inspiration from this art piece here by @lolakasa. Also, this oneâs for you @toukatan thanks for yelling about eremika with me and reading all of my endless WIPâs drafts, youâre the realest!
â This is going to be a multi-part drabble so this isnât the end! Just part 1! â
Sheâs kneeling.
Sheâs kneeling on the ground, darkened, tired eyes fixated on the markings that ghost whispers across her skin â some more vicious than others. They leave stories in their wake â of fallen soldiers and friends; their blood staining her own clothing for which has already been torn from her body.
Heâs not sure what to do, in that moment, between silence and the yelling in his ears to move forward.Â
But heâs stuck â just like he always is; just how it always happens when it comes to her.
And heâs not sure why he can handle fighting titans but not speaking to her, truly, really speaking to her â in the ways that he knows that she needs. He wishes he could find a way to tell her.
          If he only knew himself.
Even if he didnâtâŠ. not really â  not clearly â he was sure of one thing.
He never wanted to see another bad thing happen to Mikasa.
So he wraps against the door a moment, though the door was already cracked, and watches as her eyes meet his through the mirror as he approaches. She stays silent, which isnât something unnormal; though its unnerving seeing the pain lingering within steel eyes as the moon glints at the corners.
He decides to not say anything before the door clicks shut behind him. No, he doesnât say anything, even as he kneels behind her, his solid frame sticking out from behind her own.
She looked broken, and that wasnât something he was used to seeing. Mikasa was strong, determined, and nothing ever stood in her way.Â
She was usually the strong one.
Deft fingers ghost gently along her arms, starting at her neck where he backhanded down the scarred slopes. And, then, it was hard to stay silent.
âIâm sorry.â
Heâs not even sure what heâs apologizing for, and perhaps it does no good as the words slip from dried lips. He supposes apologies can only go so far before the wounds are too skin deep to mend.
âIâm fine.â But this time, her voice isnât the gentle cadence that usually twills the air. No, this voice is raspy, cracked and broken. He decides, then, that it doesnât suit her. And it makes something inside of him almost seize because anyone could see that she was anything but.
And itâs because of him. Itâs always because of him.
And he was tired of it.
His lips brush faintly at the top of her spine, the action not even registering in his mind until he feels her shudder; but in the slightest of ways that makes her skin pebble beneath his touch.
The silence still lingers thick within the air, looming, suffocating, but neither of them dare break it. Not when his lips brush again and again. Not when hesitant fingertips trace paths down the ridges and scars that mar her.
And not when his kiss lingers a bit longer. When he holds her just a bit tighter. When her heartbeat patters furiously against the palm of his hand.
He doesnât realize how closely theyâve become; he doesnât realize that his heart pounds relief for her.
He doesnât ever have the time. And heâs afraid that heâll never have the time.
  Always fighting.
     Always running.
âI wish I could give you a better life than this.â
Mikasa doesnât respond, but he feels her fingers grip tighter around his own.
âI wish I could protect you.â
She stiffens, now, as if sheâs beginning to understand. Or maybe she doesnât, but she meets his eyeline when she shifts ever so slightly.Â
Itâs in that moment that he realizes â heâs never seen her like this. So vulnerable â so hurt. So⊠different.
âThis isnât about me, or you protecting me, itâs ââ but she falls quiet.
âItâs about me, right?â He scoffs lightly, his forehead pressing to the back of her head but a moment before lifting it to shake ever so slightly. âItâs always about me.â
âAnd for what?â The question is redundant, of course, but the words still tumble from his thoughts.
âI donât think you understandâŠ. the amount of people that have already died for me. Me â and for what?â He gestures around him and catches the glint in her eyes. âEverything is different now. Nothing is what we thought it was and we might be closer to the end of this but weâve lost so much already and I ââ
âI just donât know how I can live with myself.â
Back pressed against chest, Eren can feel her body stiffen. His eyes meet hers in the mirror once again and itâs as if time freezes in that moment as he studies them. And he watches her eyes close, and her hands lift to his still grasping at her arms. They slide down to his wrists and in an instant, sheâs lifting one of his hands towards her chest.
âYou have to keep going.â Her voice is so quiet he almost doesnât hear her.Â
âLive.â
It takes him a moment, but then he understands as he feels her heartbeat furiously against the palm of his hand.Â
âLive?â he questions, and it seems redundant. âWhy should I when everyone else wants me dead?â Thereâs a pause, and a breath, and he can feel the static in his veins.
âIâve done⊠so many unforgivable things.â
His mind is so clogged of bodies and loss and anger that he doesnât realize sheâs turning in his lap, her knees brushing against his own as she faces him, his palm still flat against her chest. And when he looks at her now, her eyes are dark, albeit the small glimpse of something that he canât quite place.Â
And then sheâs taking a breath. â⊠We all have.â
âBut it doesnât make us monsters.â
When she reaches for his hand upon her chest and moves it to her lap, she collects his other one as well in her own, and he can feel her squeezing tightly. Too tightly, but he doesnât complain because in a way, itâs keeping him grounded as the world spins on end.
The silence is so thick, then, and itâs as if the pounding in his chest rings his ears and he wonders, then, if she can hear it too.
âAnd â not everyone wants you dead.â
Once lost in his own thoughts, he canât help but look up at her words, and the way the light filters in through dusky curtains against the pale of her face.Â
âSome people need you.â
She leans forward a bit, her face hovering only inches from his own and he can feel her breath against his face as she speaks. And itâs only when sheâs so, so incredibly close that he can see the swelling in her eyes, and feel the shakiness of her fingers wrapped around his own.
âPlease, Eren, youâre not the same.â She all but squeezes her eyes shut before her gaze is back, but itâs changed. âI miss you, and I hate this.â
Her forehead falls against his own as she finishes, and thereâs a moment of solitude where you can hear nothing but the otherâs breathing. He doesnât understand it in the moment, but time stands still â as if living this moment through slow motion.
Because sheâs speaking so quietly and touching him so lightly that her touch doesnât register until thumbs are smoothing along his cheeks.Â
âWhy are you crying?â
When he opens his eyes, he sees her own are filled, though heâs not sure if heâll see them spill. Sheâs so gentle, and a shudder runs through him at the thought of her hurting yet again â on his own accord.
âI ââ but he doesnât finish. He doesnât know how â or why â or perhaps heâs just too weak to admit that he doesnât want to do it anymore.
âI know what youâre thinking â and you should stop.â
Suicidal maniac â itâs all that he can feel.
âIâm dying anyway.â
âI said stop.â
And heâs never felt more afraid.
Heâs never felt more angry.
Heâs just hurting her like he always has, and he doesnât understand why she wonât just go.
And heâs not sure heâll ever understand, because in an instant sheâs there, hovering, but only a moment before closing the distance between them. He can feel her lips lightly yet furiously, grasping at his face as if itâs the last thing sheâll ever do and when she pulls away, lashes fluttering â heâs silent.
And heâs silent for a while, and he can feel the energy inside of her depleting the longer they sit in idle.Â
Heâs the first to break the silence.
âYouâre going to get hurt.â
And there he was, just earlier, thinking about how he never wanted another bad thing happening to her ever again. And yetâŠ
âIâm really dying.â The words donât feel real to him, but he knows they do to her because the glistening that had once filled her eyes long since disappeared and in its place held pain. Pure, genuine, raging pain.
And when she makes a move to stand, he can feel it. And he can see it, slightly, peeking out from half lidded eyes as she moves away â sheâs crying.Â
âMikasa, wait, please ââ
âJust stop, Eren.â
And then, just like that, sheâs gone.
Iâm sorry if I put them into the wrong houseÂ
Great idea until you have 7th graders in Florida picking your presidentâŠ. Iâm not sure that the people that actually agree to this idea understand that kids would just vote how their parents would because no seventh grader has more than two brain cells. I was in seventh grade when the 2016 election happened, and holy fuck you do not want those kids picking your President, let alone having rights in general
So then maybe, as was the point of this post, maybe the court system shouldnât be executing 7th graders (most of whom are disproportionately black and brown people)? Because if you donât think theyâre mature enough to vote and pick a president, then Iâm guessing that they arenât mature enough to be tried as adults and then executed???
The second girl at least read the book to confirm that it was shit, she even had Capote on deck as backup. Chick 1 is just lazy
Nope. Girl 2 saw that Girl 1âČs absolutely accurate analysis was being shut down just because it wasnât stated in an intellectual way (in spite of its validity). So Girl 2 reinforced Girl 1âČs opinions in solidarity and made sure that it was absolutely clear that Girl 1 was factually correct. WITHOUT taking credit for her observations (âkim is rightâ instead of âActually, kimâ) Â
Girls supporting Girls.Â
Girls not letting other girls be treated poorly.
If you read thirty pages of a book and hate it, thatâs a good analysis. Girl 1 literally said, âIt sucked for these reasons, and I only got through 30 pages.â She was absolutely paying attention and trying to get it. But if all you get is a headache, fuck that book.
I love this exchange
aw fuck = âI canât believe youâve done thisâ
Well fuck = âwell THAT happenedâ
Ugh, fuck me: âI feel like I have been making the biggest, most embarrassing mistakeâ
@blue-exorcist-junkie lolololol you have seen me done this more than once
I know Iâve used a few of those before as well lol
