Okay, here’s the problem with the idea that oppressed groups can “alienate allies” by not being nice enough:
You shouldn’t be an ally because oppressed groups are nice to you. You should be an ally because you believe they deserve basic human rights. Hearing “I hate men” shouldn’t make men stop being feminist. Hearing “fuck white people” shouldn’t make white people stop opposing racism.
Your opposition to oppression should be moral, and immovable. Your belief that all humans should be treated with equal respect shouldn’t be conditional based on whether or not individual people are nice to you.
Vegans interested in actual fucking social justice: unfollow and do not support Unnatural Vegan.
(Extreme warning for ableism and transphobia)
Admittedly I hadn’t seen a lot of her older videos and didn’t realize that she’s been kind of shitty in the past (she actually argued that severely disabled people were better off dead which !!!!!! I HAD NO FUCKING IDEA ABOUT but THAT ALONE SHOULD TELL YOU A LOT CONSIDERING SHE ADVOCATES AGAINST ANIMAL SLAUGHTER, and said that a black girl was racist for… calling her racist? I don’t know guys) just said in a video for NO reason “… the fairytale notion that there is no biological component to gender.”
Even before I knew about shit she had said in the past and said in her most recent video, I always found her a liiiittle condescending in how she talks about veganism (she seems to think that anyone who’s the least bit passionate about their stance as a vegan discredits the movement by making them look “crazy”) and lately has been involved in way too much YouTuber drama (while she tries to have it both ways by criticizing other vegan YouTubers for being overly dramatic, it’s increasingly rare for her to publish a video that ISN’T a response to something another vegan YouTuber did).
For someone who seems eager to point out how toxic “call-outs” in the social justice movement are, she herself gets off on demonizing other vegans all the time.
But these remarks are straight-up unforgivable, especially given how adverse to criticism she is and has been for quite some time now. With her remarks in the most recent video about transgender people, she really didn’t have a reason to bring it up — trans people’s existence presumably doesn’t affect her (or frankly any other vegan’s) quality of life, yet she somehow felt it was necessary to let the rest of the world know exactly how SHE feels about trans people. There are very few quality vegan YouTubers as the whole space is seemingly a cesspool of shitty behaviour, drama and body-shaming, but in case you thought she was one of the good ones, sadly she’s just another turd in the shitpile.

Lets really let that sink in though.

It’s still happening to Africa and the third world today. Their wealth and labour is being exploited, stolen from them by Western companies. This is imperialism and it harms so many people in this world.
Why is it that the ableist people who say “I’m no expert but” tend to follow it with one of the following:
a misconception as to the healing abilities of kale.
an inaccurate statement about how powerful yoga is.
a patronizing point about positive thinking.
their best guess at an educated medical opinion.
or simply something belittling, invalidating and depressing which makes you wanna respond with “well, I’m not expert but I agree that you are indeed no expert”.
The fact that men exploit women’s reproductive labour has has practically become a meme. Yes they certainly do and have done historically. But it’s usually phrased in a way that makes i…
Hi, I can't find anything ableist about that vegan saying animal testing is wrong/doesn't work. Could you please explain?
Sure. Many disabilities require medicines to treat their conditions including off label to deal with symptoms. There are times where the necessity of animal testing should be questioned on the basis of need. Botox for example, every single batch must be tested on animals and it’s mostly used for cosmetic purposes.
But I am sick of seeing vegans want to ban animal testing when there is no legitimate alternative yet and you shouldn’t use vegan activism to demonize people who need medications to survive. And I’m not talking about trannies and their hormone pills either, I mean actual medically necessary treatment. Sure, many people who need meds have impairments not disabilities but it’s still a fact that our lives are profoundly involved with the medical system including access to medications.

This sounds like subject matter @ask-keffycakes could advise on! :O
Honestly fuck all those white PETA vegan people who spend their time trying to shut down animal research facilities. We don’t live in some magical dreamland where we can make a human organ behave how it normally would in a petri dish. We have animal medical research because people realized it was shitty to test drugs on poor people, native people, mentally ill people and prisoners. When you use your rich white privilege to protest ethical and humane animal research you’re actively advocating for the abuse of your fellow humans.
To suppose that opposing animal research is to advocate for testing on unwilling humans instead is a blatant false dichotomy and requires an absurd logical leap. It is not the case that we treat diseases by testing on animals or we test on unwilling mentally ill or poor people, and the fact that I even have to type that sentence is pretty ridiculous. There are a wealth of alternatives like en vitro, test methods and models based on human cell and tissue cultures, computerised patient-drug databases and virtual drug trials, computer models and simulations, stem cell and genetic testing methods, non-invasive imaging techniques such as MRIs and CT Scans, and micro dosing, to name a few. This isn’t just coming from me, there are many well respected figures in the bio-medical community who do not believe animal testing is in any way helpful anymore. We have undoubtedly gained a great deal from animal testing in the past, but people like Nobel-prize winning biologist Sir Peter Medawar pointed out that we will be at a point where we can dispense with animal research altogether in as few as ten years time, and that was in 1972.
Even ignoring ethical considerations, the animal model of research is deeply flawed, 9 out of 10 drugs that pass animal tests still go on to fail or cause harm in clinical trials on humans. UK based companies like Pharmagene use human tissue exclusively, not out of any ethical considerations, but because they believe that the animal testing model is scientifically redundant. Animals do not get many of the diseases that humans do, so these diseases must be artificially induced. This simply does not give us an accurate measure of how organically caught diseases will respond to treatment, human cell tissue gives us a much more accurate picture. To use cancer as an example, Fran Visco, founder of the National Breast Cancer Coalition said, “Animals don’t reflect the reality of cancer in humans. We cure cancer in animals all the time, but not in people.”
As for the research methodology, it is widely accepted that animal experiments have serious limitations in that results in humans cannot be extrapolated from results in animals. A mixture of high dosage, artificial introduction of diseases and stress conditions of animals in confinement mean there are simply too many variables to gain reliable results. The cures that work on animals very often do not work in humans. Dr. Richard Klausner, former director of the US National Cancer Institute, points out that: “The history of cancer research has been the history of curing cancer in the mouse. We have cured mice of cancer for decades and it simply didn’t work in human beings.” So what do we actually gain from animal testing? Last year, globally, we killed 115 million animals in scientific experiments, yet the FDA approved only 35 new treatments. 115 million lives, for 35 new drugs? Does that sound like an efficient research model to you?
Today’s drug companies do the actual research with computer based and stem cell models, and are simply obliged to test on animals once that process has been completed, in many cases slowing down the process rather than helping it. For every research organisation you can name me that is testing on animals, I can link you one that is having equal or superior results using non-animal models. As one researcher puts it, we don’t use animals because it is good science, we use them “because they are cheap, easy to handle and few people care what you do to them.”I think the many people are guilty of a rather obvious confirmation bias when it comes to animal testing, including scientists. They assume because animal research has been done, that animal research is the only way it could have possibly done, with very little possible evidence to back up that claim.
Animal testing is inefficient, expensive, out of date and utterly unethical. It exists because, as you said, people realised it was better than testing on unwilling humans, that being past tense, the decision of a Victorian scientific community that is in no way still relevant today. To suppose that we still living in a time where the only options are testing on animals or testing on unwilling humans is ignorant, which is fine, and given the propaganda of animal testing enterprises, actually pretty understandable. However, to further claim that those of us who oppose the cruelty laboratories inflict on animals must be rich, therefore support abusing humans can only be a purposeful, transparent and utterly ludicrous attempt to misrepresent and discredit our position.
A lot of vegans of color are against the testing because we also recognize the hypocrisy in supporting something done to other species that we would condemn if it’s done to unwilling humans so STOP erasing us. Testing on other species is wrong.
Vegans are so ableist, here’s just another example of that.

Veteran’s Day
Veteran walks the streets on any other day. They might be disabled. They might be struggling with severe PTSD that leaves them unable to function in society. They struggle to find jobs that will accept them, either because of their disabilities or their MOS doesn’t transition well into civilian life. They struggle for compensation from the VA since the military conveniently forgets to write down whatever thing they’re responsible for. They lose jobs. They lose their homes. They’re mocked for being sick, mocked for being disabled, mocked for being homeless and “crazy”. They don’t want much. They’re not asking for parades and pats on the back. They want their lives back. Just… to live. To have a warm bed to call their own. To afford food every month, to pay their bills on time. They want adequate and regular mental healthcare that helps them cope with the damage their minds have endured. They want healthcare that has rules set in place to help the veterans over whatever money the government wants to save.
Oh, but today.
Today is supposed to be our magical day.
Maybe that struggling veteran gets a pat on the back. “Thank you for your service” they might hear a stranger say. Maybe it feels good to be noticed in a positive way, maybe it just makes them feel even more isolated and ignored because they know it’s only for one day. Maybe that free meal at some restaurant might be nice. Little banners here and there, signs put up in shop windows even though a struggling veteran is politely asked to leave the rest of the year.
This one day doesn’t mean shit to them. It might feel nice, but what that veteran needs above all else is to feel like people give a shit the rest of the time. For their healthcare to be improved. For their VA compensation to be enough to keep them fed and clothed. For mental healthcare to be a priority.
Instead trillions of dollars we don’t have are put into more and more wars. Trillions of dollars are spent sending young soldiers into the battlefield only to bring them back home and toss them out on the street just as broken.
“Respect and support the troops!” cry the politicians who happily throw our money towards bigger and better weapons while slashing the budget to care for the broken soldiers THEY created.
I don’t hate Veteran’s Day.
I just wish it actually meant something.

Oh boo whoo. Troops are baby murdering scumbags. If u really gave a shit about social justice you’d support the victims of US imperialism such as the civilian populations of Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc.
