Leaves crunched underfoot as I took a step towards him. His tense muscles sprang alive and he ran far away from me. So used to being shot at, he did not see my lack of weapon. He could not have known that I intended only to be near. He did not see in him what I did. For I was just as lonely a traveller as he. I sought only his companionship.
