Cadiz is the province of Andalusia community of Spain. The Cadiz city is the capital of the province. The port city is the principal home of the Spanish navy. Castillo San Sebastian It is a military fortification on an island separated from the mainland of the city. The castle history dates back to the year when Phoenician place the foundation stone of the castle and with time many generation of Visigoth and Moors holds the military fort as an important military structure. The present day castle construct was however began in 1706 when a grand fort was erected at irregular plan on the island just near the coast of the Cadiz city. The castle is open for public and tourists is all 7 days of the week.

Roman Theatre Roman left their marks on Cadiz city and there are few ancient remains of Romans such as the remains of Roman theatre in the historic center of the city. These sights will interest tourists that love to discover the Roman era and history of Western Roman Empire in Iberian Peninsula. It is a must see destination in the city.

Gran Teatro Falla The Gran Teatro Falla is a popular theater located in the Plaza Fragela adjacent to the Faculty of Medicine of Cadiz University. The construction of the theatre began in 1884 after following the plans by architect Adolfo Morales de Ríos. The theatre is built in Neo Mudejar architectural design. The theatre is made with red brick and got three grand horseshoe arch in the entrance of the theatre. Inside the theatre is a large vestibule that was redesign in 1920. The stage is 18 meters wide and 25 meters deep. The ceiling is design as an allegory of Paradise. It is a great place for people new to the town and tourist to the city. Local people also visit the theatre to watch movies and theatre performances.

Playa la Caleta La Caleta beach lies nearby the historic center city of Cadiz. The beach was the natural harbor for many civilizations of Carthaginians, Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and Monarchy. Located on an isolated island, Castillo de San Sebastian can be seen from the beach side. The beach has been filmed in several popular movies like Die Another Day, Manolete and few other short movies.

Torre Tavira Torre Tavira is a historic tower served as the first watch of the Cadiz city  during the early period of 18th century. The tower is located at the highest point of old Cadiz city. The tower is located at the palatial residence of Marquis of Recano, on Marques del Real Tesoro and Sacramento.There is a camera on the tower that provide panoramic views of the entire Cadiz city at the top of the tower.

Archaeological and fine art museum The Museum of Cadiz is a combine archeological-fineart museum located in the Cadiz city. In 1970 Museum of fine arts merged into the provincial museum of Archaeological and now the building exhibit the collection of both the fine arts and archeology museum. The building has three floors; archeological collection are exhibited in the ground floor of the museum. Arts collection are exhibited at the first floor and puppet collection at the second floor. The arts floor exhibit the works of Peter Paul Rubens, Murillo and works of many other artists of Spain.

Castle of Santa Catalina Castle of Santa Catalina is located in Cadiz city and declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle was use for military purpose. It is located nearby the Playa la Caleta beach in Cadiz city.

Places to see outside of the Madrid city

Travel in Madrid is fun, there is lot to see such as great museums, parks, plazas, castles and sport stadiums. However there are many places nearby Madrid city that should not be miss while you are staying at Madrid. In this post I will share you the places to see nearby the Madrid city. These places are 

Avila Avila is fortified city surrounded by high walls and forts earning the title of town of “stones and saints”. In 1985 the town has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many gates of the city specially the gate of Alcazar, a huge gate that provide main entrance to the city. There are also many museums in the city that are worth a visit to the city of Avila.

Segovia Segovia  is also not much far from Madrid. People can reach to the city in one hour from A-6 and AP-61 highway. There are many beautiful buildings and architectural landmarks in the city such as Segovia cathedral, Saint Mary monastery and Alcazar of Segovia. Alcazar castle and the gardens are the most beautiful sights to see in Segovia city.

Toledo Toledo is not much far from Madrid. It is located 70 kilometers away from the Madrid city. There are many places to see in Toledo such as Alcazar of Toledo, Puerta de Bisagra, city hall, Tavera hospital, Galiana palace and Castillo de San Servando. 

El escorial El Escorial is the residence of king of Spain. There is also a monastery and a museum in the El Escorial complex. L’Hemisferic  It is an IMAX cinema or a planetarium that resembles to a giant eye and has an approximate radius of 13000 kilometers square. The planetarium is a half sphere, 110 meters long and 55 meters wide. The building is divided by a set of stairs that descents all the way down to a concrete lobby. The transparent roof of the building is supported by giant pillars. 

El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe Is an interactive museum of Science that resembles to a whale skeleton. The building is composed of three floors, 26000 square meters of the building is used for exhibitions. The third floor provide you views of Turia garden that surrounds the complex. The second floor of the building is used for hosting exhibition for “the legacy of science”. The third floor of the building is a “chrome forest” that hosts “zero gravity”, “the space academy” and “Marvel Superheroes” exhibitions.

L’Umbracle L’Umbracle is a giant landscape walk with plant species surrounding indigenous to the Valencia. Some species planted are rockrose, lentisca, rosemary, lavender, honeysuckle, bougainvillea and palm trees. There is a walk of sculptures, arts and paintings by famous artists. Umbracle is design as an entrance to the complex with many standalone sculptors in its surroundings.

L’Oceanografic L'Oceanografic is an open air aquarium with an area of 11000 square meters and 42 million liters of water. The building is design in a shape of waterlily by the architect, Felix Candela. There are many sections of the building with different environment such as Mediterranean, Temperate, Tropical, Oceanic and Arctic environment. The common species in the aquarium are dolphins, belugas, sawfish, jellyfish, starfish, sea urchin, sea lions, penguins, turtles, rays and sharks.

El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia It is an opera house in the complex. The building has four rooms i.e. main room, magisterial classroom, amphitheatre and theatre of camera. The building hosts several events such as music concerts, operas and theatres. 

El Pont de l'Assut de l'Or It is a suspension bridge that connect south side of the complex with Minorca street, 125 meters high pillars is the highest point in the entire Valencia city. 

L'Àgora It is a covered plaza that holds music concerts and sporting events. It also hold other events such as performances, exhibitions, conventions and international sports meetings. 

Day 4: Highlights

The main highlights of the tour on day 4 are listed below:

Torres de Serranos

Torres de Serranos is a medieval gate, an Icon of Medieval inheritance of Valencia. It is one of the best preserved gate out of the 11 other gates of the wall that surrounds the old Valencia city. The medieval structure was built in 14th century by Pere Balaguer as city gate and also for the defense mechanism. Later it was used as a prison for keeping royal personals in the prison. It is a must visit destination in Valencia city.

Mestalla Stadium

Mestalla stadium is the home ground of Valencia football club. The stadium was opened in May 20, 1923, hosting the friendly match between Valencia and Levante. The stadium can host 17000 fans. There is a museum dedicated to the club and a small shop where fans can buy Valencia FC team cards and shirts.

Museum of Ethnology

The museum features many historic object, historic audios and videos and sculptors. The museum throw light on the evolution of the humans as a society in Valencia.

Day 5: Ibiza

Ibiza is a beautiful island located some few kilometers away from coast of Valencia in Mediterranean Sea. Asturias is an autonomous community in northwest Spain. Oviedo is the capital of the commune and Gijon is the largest city. It is bordered with Cantabria to the east, Castile and Leon to the south, Galicia to the west and Bay of Biscay to the north.

History

Its history goes back to lower paleolithic era when the humans were introduced in these lands. Cave painting in the region have been found that dates back to the upper Paleolithic era. Asturiensis were introduced in Mesolithic period. After Iron Age celts tribes came to this region which are commonly named as Astures. Roman conquer Asturias under the rule of emperor Augustus. When the Roman empire shattered in different regions of the west Suebi and then Visigoths ruled these lands. Visigoths rule fall in the early period of the 8th century and Moors known incorporate these lands under the Caliphate of Cordoba. But the rule was not strong to hold the mountainous territories in the region of Asturias. It was the refuge for Christian nobles during reconquista of Spain from the Moorish caliphs as they were ousted from the territories of Spain. In the 10th century Kingdom of Asturias raised to its feet and build the bases of Spanish conquest by Monarch. Later year the region was incorporated into the Kingdom of Spain after the Castilian army defeated Queen Urraca and Gonzalo Pelaez of Kingdom of Asturias.

Geography and Climate

The region has many spectacular mountain region and natural parks. The seaside is also very beautiful. Picos de Europa National Park has many great mountains that rises up to 2648 meters height on Torrecerredo Peak, the highest peak of the mountainous region.
