@everboundvenvel
Oh HARD DISAGREE. Scooby makes sense as the King because he is the emotional glue that holds them all together but he would do anything to avoid a combat situation. Velma is the one who ultimately facilitates the defeat of their adversaries so in terms of mechanics she should be the queen piece no question. Shaggy should be the knight because he would never face an opponent head on but he often contributes through surprise attack, deception and other situational strategy. Fred would be the Rook because he’s straightforward and dependable; he sees a clear path and he charges forward! This leaves just the Bishop which is perfect because Daphne can only move diagonally.
This is the most pure-hearted post I've ever seen on Tumblr. Though, I do wish Daphne's pilot a quick repair for that stuck yoke.
I just don’t get it. How can our society act so goddamned normal about seahorses. How can anybody so casually accept that that’s a fish???
This is one of nature’s most anatomically perverse of all beasts. A FISH, like a carp or a bass or a beta is a fish, but it bent its body straight up only to bend its head permanently back down. It stretched its skull into a pipe. It tapered its tail like a lizard, specifically like a chameleon. It can also move its eyes independently by the way, you know, like a chameleon. Fun fact, it can change color to express its mood, like you know whatever does that. It doesn’t properly swim anymore. It buzzes its few remaining fins like an insect’s wings to float itself around at a snail’s pace. It lives its whole life clinging to coral branches or seaweed, which means it decided to become a “tree dweller” in an environment where gravity didn’t even matter anyway. The males get pregnant. They make noises at each other by rubbing some of their neck bones together. Every day, EVERY DAY a mated pair does a little dance and a little neck bone song so they remember which two seahorses they were. They’re a beautiful precious obscenity. Nothing so adorable ever made such a strong case against a logical creator.
They have as little skin and meat as they could get away with. Their skeleton is almost all they are.
This thing is one of the most successful hunters on the planet. Because their mouth is fused shut, except for the tip, they can create a powerful suction force in front of that one little opening in order to draw in prey.
Lions have a 20-30% success rate on their hunts, depending on daytime and if they’re in a group. Great white sharks, anywhere from 40% to 80%, depending on the size and skill of the individual. Dragonflies, which are one of the most successful terrestrial hunters, can hit about 80-85%. Seahorses? 90% success rate, sometimes more. Only a fraction of their prey escapes that powerful vacuum. They’re incredibly precise.
If you touch them, they feel hard, because of the skeleton underneath their skin. Their tails are being studied to make coiling bridges, because of how strong that interlocked structure is. Different species range in size from over a foot long, to barely an inch.
Behold: not just a fish, but a wildly successful predator!
I forgot to mention them being carnivorous when I first wrote this because I just thought everyone knew they suck up little shrimp and stuff but the notes are full of surprise! Herbivory is rare in the ocean, there isn’t that much that qualifies as “plant life” and seahorses will often spend their whole lives attached to just one coral, no plants or algae in reach!
A lot of notes saying “fish is a meaningless distinction” but that’s really not correct here; that’s why I specified “like a carp or a bass or a Betta” because while “fish” is an abstract umbrella term, seahorses squarely belong to the same group of animals as just a salmon or a clownfish. The bony ray-finned fish!
Look at the Sea Moth! I saw some of these one time in an aquarium with absolutely zero context. It’s a seahorse relative that walks around the sea floor on little legs!
It’s like a bony fish just decided to evolve into a bug!
POSTING THIS AGAIN!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!

On the Digimon Tamers Drama Fiasco
Last night I watched the Tamers drama reading from Sunday’s DigiFes. You may have heard of it! It’s the one the internet is loudly criticizing (and a few trolls naturally defending), and where even the fansub group added a disclaimer at the beginning warning of its promotion of “far-right politics and conspiracy theories.” The good news here is that if you’re going off of just the screenshots, you’re not getting the full picture of the content. The bad news is that the full picture of the content is actually much worse.
So here’s what you probably heard: that the whole thing’s a heavy-handed rant against cancel culture and political correctness. That’s what the most-distributed screenshots are showing, and that’s what the most influencial accounts who are talking about it are sharing. It’s not wrong- the enemy entity identifies itself as “Political Correctness” and uses “Cancel Culture” as a weapon. They say it in English! There’s no ambiguity about that!
But you can see the trouble with rallying around those, right? Yeah, rallying against someone criticizing “Cancel Culture” gets accused of it themselves. And talking about cancel culture, even criticism of it, shouldn’t be out of bounds: it’s a tricky subject with potential for exploration. I touch on it in my own stuff even! But simply turning cancel culture and political correctness into a vague evil entity reeks of lazy parody, like some skit from a right-wing Youtuber thinking he’s funny.
The real issue with the drama lies in the set-up to all that. Namely Yamaki bursting in, interrupting the usual reunion fluff with a long rant that Youtuber would be proud of. It touches on all the usual nonsense: big tech is censoring everybody! Regular media uses fake news to cover up reality! Fact checkers eliminate dissenting opinion! Add that to some of the content from Konaka’s blog and it spells someone who fell a little hard into some really damaging nonsense. This stuff isn’t about cancel culture. This stuff is untrue, harmful, and has no place in Digimon coming out of anyone but a villain. None of the kids argue, save for Jian being an intentionally weak strawman. That’s the stuff that should be screenshotted.
So what are we supposed to do with that? The easiest thing to do is make a note of Konaka’s current mindset and otherwise forget about it. It’s disappointing to hear for sure, even moreso if you actually watched it. I don’t recommend that by the way: there are a couple nice bits cleaning up some things from the series and both audios, but they aren’t worth it. This is thankfully designed to be ephemeral, meant for a one-time reading with no official release. Even Konaka said this isn’t meant to be taken as canon. And it doesn’t change what Tamers is. It’s still full of love, values reality and the collective, and even Konaka’s trademark spots of conspiratorial nonsense aren’t malignant. This isn’t a case like Harry Potter where now that we recognize the author’s true colors, we’ve become more cognizant of the damage hiding in her pages. We can still love Tamers, we have no need to carry this baggage, and we’ll get past this.
What really gets to me is that, looking at his blog, Konaka doesn't even seem to fully know what it is he's talking about, at least when it comes to 9/11. Like, from what I gather, Konaka seems to not even really understand what most Americans feel about the 9/11 tragedy, therefore he doesn't really know why the conspiracies theories about it are despised. Maybe he truly doesn't get it, but why doesn't he try to research the subject further before jumping to the defense of conspiracy theorists? Does it not occur to him that what the conspiracy theorists are saying might be harmful? Because what 9/11 truthers are saying is damned harmful and intended as a weapon to further tear apart the U.S.A, not to mention spitting in the face of the suffering that came from 9/11.
Konaka has really turned himself into an Old Man Yells at Cloud headline. Thankfully, Tamers itself still has a great message, and Konaka was hardly the only person to work on it. I still love Tamers. I am extremely dissapointed in what Konaka has become since it aired.
Konaka didn't write Impmon's story either, so if anything there's still that.
i love it when im rereading a story and i find these little breadcrumbs of foreshadowing the author left. everytime im like "ohoho!!!! i wouldve gotten that before if i had the big picture!!! and now i do!!! delightful!!!" and idk i just love being able to read the same story twice but have two different experiences. i like when a story has so many layers that it can keep you entertained for a long time as you unravel all its secret nooks and crannies. thats a good story.
Genuinely fucking UNREAL that the CDC announced you can stop wearing a mask after you’re vaccinated as if not a single person in that process knew they were giving a free pass to every single covid denier and anti-vaxxer, as if they were not even aware those were tremendously loud movements already creating problems for everybody else, or they were aware but somehow did not connect that their one little announcement would unleash the floodgates and probably create its own surge of new cases as any piece of shit can just claim to be vaccinated and breathe their rancid breath all over every “essential worker” now forced to politely serve them anyway. For real this one mere tweet is going to get people killed and everyone even partially responsible for it should have to face some severe fucking consequences.
vegans who refuse to even eat backyard eggs….why
people who think its unethical to eat chicken eggs are like people who think bees should keep all their honey. they literally produce more than they need and your unwillingness to even buy local means you are doing nothing to help them, support your small farmers you heathens
This is not true.
1) honeybees do not produce “extra honey.” And beekeepers don’t take some of the honey, they take all of it.
2) chickens have been artificially selected from naturally producing eggs once a month to producing eggs every couple of days. Their bodies are not sustainable and the health complications of this rapid egg production kills chickens.
Hey idk who like. Lied to you about the way honey farms work, but could you stop spreading misinformation? Are you a beekeeper?
Because I am!
Beekeepers make sure hives are fed before there is pollen in the air, protected from predators and the elements, and have enough honey to sustain themselves. We don’t take all of it.
But overproduction of honey leads to stagnation in the hive. It puts stress on the queen to lay eggs, and when they inevitably fill up all their space with honey (instead of filling up the multiple empty, clean boxes of frames beekeepers might put on top of the main hive box), the queen can get so stressed she dies. If there’s a spike in the weather and the hive hasn’t prepared new queen brood, that’s it! The colony is dead. Because there wasn’t enough space for eggs and honey in the hive.
Beekeepers take excess honey. We are constantly monitoring the state of the hive, checking for parasites, analyzing the eggs for diseases, and making sure they are fed and healthy (usually with sugar water and pollen substitutes until they have made enough honey to sustain themselves in the early spring months). If a queen dies prematurely, we make every attempt to replace her to save the colony.
I know there’s an urge to patronize everyone who works in the farming industry, but try to understand the differences between small scale agriculture and industrial farming. There IS a difference. And stop spreading misinformation.
If you’re this passionate about ethical consumption, look into some of the ecofeminist research on non-hierarchal interspecies relationships (working on building animal-human relationships in a non exploitative way).
But yeah! Stop spreading misinformation! Please 🐝
Also if I can harp on the chicken part?
Yea Chickens are some of the most abused animals on big factory farms and I’ll be the first to admit it’s criminal and more needs to be done to regulate this.
Yes selective breeding over time has caused an increase in the ammount of eggs produced by chickens and factory farms have some messed up practices to get more eggs from them including forced moutling.
THIS IS WHY YOU SUPPORT LOCAL FARMERS AND THEIR EGGS
Many people take to raising their own hens because of America’s immoral treatment of hens in factory farms like you’re not helping the poor chicks by starving these farmers financially you’re just hurting the one people trying to change things and making the OPTION of cage free organic cruelty free eggs even harder to find
First of all, chickens didn’t ever “lay one egg a month” because they’re clutch layers. Not only that, but many chicken folk are raising heritage breeds, not commercial hens,. Your average commercial production hen (leghorns, Isa browns, etc) produce 5-6 eggs per week, laying an egg a day (which is actually how junglefowl, ie wild chickens, lay. The difference is that jungle fowl lay their clutch and then brood). Heritage breeds often don’t because they haven’t been bred for egg production, they’ve been bred out of a sense of heritage. Older breeds our ancestors around the world kept for various reasons. Often these breeds are the ones that lay 3-4 eggs in a week instead of daily, which is less often than wild fowl when it’s laying season. In addition, several heritage breeds are being kept for conservation reasons, as the breeds were nearly lost.
And backyard hens are often spoiled pets. They get fed rich, hearty, varied diets. Usually a staple chow and then extras like leafy greens, bugs, fruits, veggies. Often they get table scraps. I’ve seen countless people make warm oatmeal on cold mornings to give to Their Ladies. They make them chicken sweaters, and aprons, and diapers so they can visit inside the house for snuggles. Enrichment is increasing for them every day. Most people allow their birds to free range during the day when it’s nice out. They give them names.
They also lay eggs, often infertile ones but even the fertile ones aren’t “babies” like you’re thinking. They are absolutely inert without incubation for over 24 hours straight because chickens lay a clutch of 8-15 eggs and need them to hatch at all the same time so they don’t start incubation until the hen stops laying and sits on them. Brooding is just as hard if not harder on them than laying is, because they stop eating and drinking except once a day, and hold in their poop so they only poop once a day instead of eliminating waste every 15 minutes or so like they would normally. This can cause them to lose a lot of weight and some birds will sit on eggs until it seriously threatens their health. So normally you don’t WANT them to brood if you can prevent it, unless you know they have fertile eggs AND you want babies or know how you’re going to re-home them. It’s also not possible to safely fix a bird; anesthesia is an extremely dangerous risk that often leads to death and no vet in their right mind would risk it just so you can prevent a chicken hen from laying eggs.
IN SUMMARY: The eggs they naturally produce by existing and being well cared for are edible, nutritious, and taste good, you cannot safely prevent them from laying them, and leaving the eggs in with them can lead to negative health consequences.
So what would you have someone do? Throw away food just because your pet produced it instead of the dirt? That’s illogical and wasteful.
Like, if you just don’t want to eat eggs, then don’t. I don’t particularly like eggs either! I keep chickens as pets, and they produce a bunch of eggs I don’t eat, so I sell them or give them to other people. BUT if you’re not eating eggs from backyard chickens because of some misguided idea that it’s cruel, you’re just wrong, and you should stop spreading that lie.
i have no idea how tiktok works but i made a tiktok. wanted to share my technique. hope it helps some people

Traditional forestry is so fascinating actually. Humans used to be much more invested in sustainable practices*, and they got creative about it.
Take coppicing. Coppicing is wild, ya’ll. Young trees get repeatedly cut down so that they regenerate with extra limbs. You know, like a freaking hydra.
This doesn’t harm the trees. In fact, since a regularly coppiced tree stays in the juvenile stage, this effectively makes the tree IMMORTAL, unable to be touched by age and the ravages of time. Also coppicing has been practiced since literal prehistory and has a lot of ecological benefits. In return, humans get a theoretically infinite supply of wood from one tree, instead of having to plant new ones.
tldr if you cut off a tree’s head it will grow more heads like a hydra and become functionally immortal.
*before colonizers realized they could steal all the land & trees they desired
this website has ruined me for all others
@neil-gaiman I think we’re getting closer to finding your stick-people
coppicing, and also its brother pollarding, are way more insanely useful then youd assume the more you think of it consider that for almost all of human history we lived in a wooden world, wood was the go to material for just about any building project, tool making, as well as your fuel source- coppicing and pollarding allow you to harvest not just wood, but specifically long straight pieces of wood that you can allow them to grow to your desired thickness rather then hunt through a forest looking for just the right sized branch or take a larger piece of wood and waste time shaving it down chair leg? broom handle? ladder rungs? polearm shaft? you literally have a tree that grows wood in exactly the size and shape you want, and for making things like wattle for your houses walls or basket weaving its hard to imagine an easier way to just aquire infinite thin supple branches for free bonus, because you left the root system and often at least some of the leaves, the coppiced tree regrows those branches waaaay faster then waiting for a new tree to grow, instead of waiting for a new tree to grow seven to twelve years thick enough to turn it into an axe handle this system will only take about five or so years and will produce at least nine at once of the same thickness bonus bonus, in many cases you can shape the young branch in its rapid growth so that when harvested its already in the shape you need it to be rather then having to carve, bend, or fork this wood after the fact which would take time and effort you can let the tree do- anything from pitchforks to scythe handles, why shape when you can just bend the wood while its growing with some twine to hold it in place? bonus bonus bonus, anywhere that has livestock requires you to provide hay during the winter to keep your animals alive, and typically this requires you to set asside land just to grow grass, and hours of backbreaking labor to mow it with a scythe just to prepare food for your sheep and cows for winter, which is largely why youd butcher most of your animals around christmas so you wouldnt have to feed them over winter and thus save yourself busting ass to make hay…. buuut if you are coppicing or pollarding you already produce bushels of leaves that were attached to those branches, and hey, thats free hay you can just set asside instead bonus bonus bonus bonus, these thin branches sprouting like crazy are also ideal to just shove into the ground to grow more trees. literally just make pirated copies of trees whevever you have soft ground. hadnt you ever wondered how medieval europe never ran out of forests despite every home having to burn through firewood 24/7 for hundreds of years and any form of industry needed a steady supply of charcoal
people also do this by accident and inadvertently create indestructible invasive honeysuckle bushes that can only be killed with carefully-applied herbicide and a tremendous amount of patience
please stop mowing your honeysuckle and remove it from the ground completely… please…
This is such a cool concept. A story idea for elves or other long-lived societies in particular.
I’m’a file it away with this similar thread, which includes this picture:
Coooool.
that’s an example of Japanese Daisugi, which i’ve previously written about here!
sending my mayor and city council horrid energy, more psychic attacks then they can withstand these freak fucks are really about to sweep the homeless camp this friday with basically no warning while lying through their teeth about how they have the same goals as us "so pwease stop being mean we're twying ouw best </3" fuck you
Please, if you're able to, donate to Camp 210 in Bellingham

Please help my sister pay for rent and food!
Short version: my sister is trans, disabled, in an uncertain housing situation, has very low income, and needs assistance. You can send her money at paypal.me/spewkee.
Longer version: my sister and I have been subject to insecure housing in the past, I’m okay currently, last year my sister moved to another state to stay with her boyfriend and his family, it worked at first but now things are looking bad for her again. She was out of work due to the pandemic and, after moving, is still having difficulty securing income due to a combination of her disability and the ongoing pandemic. She has some income from a generous friend, but it’s not enough to cover her share of the rent and groceries. This is exacerbated by one of the other people living in the same house as her treats her with distrust and disrespect because she’s transgender. She’s also uninsured currently and her medication costs more than half of what she receives from her friend. Relevant resources, especially for Florida (she’s living near Orlando), may also be helpful. She would rather they be linked to me and then I send them to her, so please send them to me if you can. I’m admittedly not super active right now on Tumblr, I will continue to check here but emailing me at [email protected] would be a better way for me to see it. In a similar vein, something besides money she suggested I ask for was advice on art commissions or sex work. I am admittedly wary of her becoming a sex worker, but if she wants to do it and it might help I figure I should still include it. Thank you very much for reading! Please donate, share/reblog, and/or send info if you’re able!
These are people I know and have met, I can vouch for this being the situation and that it’s been bad for a while :|
Art Car with singing fish and lobster
The above caption egregiously omits that the fish and lobsters are singing Bohemian Rhapsody.
The party is on the ropes near death under the might of the final boss when the chaotic-neutral bard you met a week ago rams through the wall with this, granting everyone Greater Inspiration and curing all Psychic ailments

I'm logging back into Tumblr for the first time in over a year (had to keep my brain safe yo) and I'd totally forgotten about the prevalence of context-free shitposts here and I'm frightened.
While I’m still remembering the existence of redbubble I also drew a “generic” ;) digimon face you can put on whatever. Because I can get it in bulk for cheaper I’ll probably put a transparent sticker version on my etsy later, then people can turn anything at all into a dingeyman!!!!

(should finish processing and the URL work within 10-15 minutes of me posting this)
The great thing about this is, no matter what piece of clothing you choose to have this printed on, there is a canon Digimon with a face in the corresponding location.
