“Public libraries are such important, lovely places!” Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldn’t just exist for you as a nice idea. That’s why more libraries shut every year
If this post persuades even one person to get a free library account and use it, my time on this hellsite will not have been spent in vain

Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
This is the most castley castle I have ever seen, more castles need to be atop windswept rocks
I mean, talk about finding a defensible spot.
Okay, so I went to this castle frequently while studying in Aberdeen and there are some important things I had to share about Dunnottar:
1. There is a beautiful trail along the beach and then up a cliff and along the cliffs to get there. Absolutely stunning views and also an intense workout. (To recover from this hike, stop in Stonehaven after and get yourself a deep fried Mars bar.)
2. The castle and the cliffs you walk along used to be more level. After building the castle they destroyed part of the cliff, making the valley-like dip you can see in the picture. So basically, to get there you walk up a cliff and then go back down to immediately come back up inside the castle. No army wanted to do that…
3. There is a room where they kept Covenanters (supported a Scottish Presbyterian church in the 17th century, things did not go well for them) imprisoned for months. This room is very cold and dark and I cannot imagine it being filled with that many people. It also had a breathtaking view of the North Sea and the cliffs.
4. There is a lion’s den.
