Never forget what Matthew Mullenweg did to Predstrogen. Never forget our sisters vanishing faster and faster, while staff jumps between denying and admitting it was them.
The more I learn about historical indigenous American technology the more mogged I feel about my inability to expertly knap flint tools or precisely identify and utilize the properties of plant resins. If a Chumash guy asked me to make a tomol I would be so fucked it's not even funny. I would embarrass myself. At this rate I'll never be a major economic trade power in the Pacific.
I came across literature on the tomol in my research into the idea of secret societies. There is an argument to be made that the Brotherhood of the Tomol, is possibly the oldest recorded secret society in history.
It was essentially a secretive guild, a group of shipwrights who would sequester themselves from society to protect the trade secrets of tomol construction. I don't know much about shipbuilding but my understanding is that these vessels are what allowed the Chumash to be a major economic power for the region. Technical knowledge worth protecting!
Look at this shit. I don't know how to make that. I'm fucked.
Can’t say where without doxing myself extremely obviously but the year I moved to my current city, the local tribe’s urban office made a dugout canoe with the youth here and then they went out on the lakes and rivers with it. You’d think maybe a dugout is easier, in theory you just gotta hollow out a log, right? But turns out that is noooot true. Do you know how to start a fire in a log without burning up the whole log? Then after that you gotta figure out how to boil water inside the hollowed out log (to make it stretchable). And recent research has shown that people were often making these out of some of the toughest hardwoods in existence.
Also Ojibwe people and other people who used birchbark canoes instead would regularly patch up canoes while they were traveling, bc they are pretty delicate if you accidentally smash them on a rock. So you’re literally on the side of the river and you gotta make some twine and pitch to re-waterproof your canoe. But that kind of also shows how we didn’t have a concept of “wilderness,” because to our ancestors there were all the resources and tools we needed for fixing that canoe right along our route, and we knew how to use them.
I often feel sad about not having all these skills, and it’s scary bc when I was growing up there was literally a single Ojibwe guy in the whole western Great Lakes (on the US side at least) who knew how to make a birchbark canoe traditionally. But now there has been a bunch of interest so I think he has taken on apprentices, which is great. I know there is lots going on with canoe culture in the Pacific Northwest, like Canoe Journey (which is awesome and you should look up the videos of it if you haven’t seen them) but I don’t know personally who is doing that work among Chumash people! I’m sure they are out there though.
happy disability pride month and once again, FUCK lazy subtitles. fuck the [speaks foreign language] instead of actually transcribing the words, fuck shortening sentences and changing whats been said for no reason, fuck censoring swearing in captions but not in audio and fuck anyone who says youre being 'too sensitive' for being upset about a lack of accessibility
Can I add an additional FUCK STREAMING SERVICE SUBTITLES THAT COVER UP PRE-EXISTING, CORRECT SUBTITLES FOR A CHARACTER SPEAKING A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH WITH [speaks foreign language] SO I CAN'T READ SHIT
Have other hearing folks who need subs for various accessibility reasons also noticed how BAD accuracy of subtitling to dialogue spoken has gotten as of late?!
It’s definitely a “let AI do it” bad call. So often homonyms that don’t make sense are in there. It’s awful.
I loves her
She's being so big and brave.
hi my name is dark yagami and my goal is to give birth to billions of people
and if i said nolan's odyssey starring no greek actors and with no recognizable aspects of greek culture or involvement by greeks, is the direct legacy of white supremacist colonialism that treated ancient greece as not just the pinnacle of ancient culture, but of an artificially created "european" culture, which white western europeans and their settler descendants, as the new pinnacle of culture, were the sole spiritual inheritors of.
^^^ PEOPLE ARE STILL THERE. There's a metro station across the street from the colosseum where i found a hair in my pizza slice. We drove by ruins of an amphitheater next to a motorway in greece once. It's literally just real places where real people live and have lived. It's not mythical perfect lands that once existed. I went to Itacha in 2023 and there was not enough parking space.
I’d die on the hill that “stranger danger” is a deeply unhelpful mentality to have. “Ooooh everyone is out to get me they’re all gonna perpetrate harm that’s actually more likely to come from someone I already know. I better never talk to anyone in my community who I don’t already know, just to be safe. I’m sure there are no other biases interwoven with this mentality” like oh my god human traffickers do not just randomly spawn in every parking lot. You don’t have to go solo hitchhiking across the country but you also don’t have to live in fear that every guy on the street is the knife man who’s gonna get you. Like have situational awareness, yeah. But most of the time the guy on the street is not knife man he’s actually just a guy on the street and he’s probably pretty chill, and you’re driving yourself crazy by living in a constant state of unnecessary fear.
J.K. Rowling posting Upskirt shots of trans women makes clear what we've always known.
Rowling believes that she has a right to commit sexual violence against women she believes don't deserve rights or safety.
Her response to receiving criticism on posting said upskirt was to essentially argue that the trans woman had it coming and as was basically asking for it because of what she was wearing.
There is no daylight between Rowling and the average shitheel rapist.
Sounds hot

Help a trans gal find a home ! (04/24/26)
Hi I'm Rhea, trans girl currently living in Chicago and deeply unemployed (hopefully not for much longer we shall see), and I need to find a place to live within approximately the next month while I continue getting back on my feet in a new city. I have a little black cat named Harrowhark that I adore very much and while I'm a bit of a loner at times I'll also do my best to be helpful around the space. I am unfortunately just in a really bad spot and really need some help.
Please spread this around if you can and please DM me if you have any leads for anything. If you're willing to help me afford foods and meds in the meantime please do so using one of these, it would be deeply appreciated:

This is a cinematic masterpiece
Appropriately, the song used in the beginning is originally from the soundtrack of a spaghetti western movie, Django, Prepare a Coffin.
The song is called "Last Men Standing", by Gianfranco Reverberi and Gian Piero Reverberi.
Then when he starts dancing it transitions to "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, which samples and is inspired by "Last men Standing"
Nature Documentary: these deep sea creatures can withstand crushing pressures of thousands of pounds per square inch!
Me: they’re not withstanding a goddamn thing. The pressure is a part of them. Their interiors and exteriors are equalized. Just because your respiratory system is built around a pair of fragile poppable bubbles-

we tried to pass a constitutional amendment here in 2024 to specifically get rid of forced prison labor. it was policy-backed and had broad bipartisan support. all the arguments against it were "but we Need slaves." the measure failed 53% to 47%
