Color Guide
*+*+*+*+*+*+*
Whump:
The title of each post will be color coded to whichever one most closely matches the contents.
Torture
In which the point is the Whumpee being intentionally hurt by a Whumper.
Captivity
In which the Whumpee is forced into a role in a relationship they cannot leave. Whump where they are captured, enslaved, imprisoned, conscripted, or in an abusive relationship may fall under this category.
Psychological
Focusing on fucking up Whumpee mentally. Mental illness sickfics and mindfuck will fall under this category.
Medical
Set in a hospital or perhaps experimental facility, this whump genre may involve things like needles or restraints. This could also be illness whump like sickfics.
Emotional
These are scenarios in which the main source of pain is emotional rather than physical or mental. AKA this is the one where the dog dies.
Recovery
This is for when the difficulty of recovery is whump in and of itself.
Caretaker:
Color coded to whatever trope matches best.
Overprotective
These Caretakers get angry and even vengeful on behalf of Whumpee. They often hate Whumper even more than Whumpee does and some may unintentionally move into Whumper territory themselves with how controlling they can be.
Rough
These do not treat the Whumpee like they are made of glass. They may be a little deadpan or even mean, but ultimately they are there for Whumpee. This is the tough love Caretaker.
Inexperienced
This Caretaker has never had to do a job like this before, and if they have it wasn't as severe or the same type of whump. They're trying their best, though, and that's usually enough.
Whumpee
Carewhumpees are right there in it with Whumpee, but they either have a different strategy, position, or personality that makes it so they are the one soothing their fellow Whumpee.
Detached
This Caretaker doesn't have personal stake in Whumpee's suffering, but they take care of them regardless. Perhaps it's their job or perhaps taking in Whumpees is a lifestyle for them. Their somewhat cold demeanor can be a relief to a Whumpee who needs space or has become fearful of others seeking intimacy from them.
Gentle
These are the most classic Caretakers who treat Whumpee with tender care. They give affection freely and comfort Whumpee with soft touch and a soothing voice.
Whumper:
Color coded to whichever one most closely matches the personality of the Whumper.
Sadistic
These characters enjoy inflicting pain for the sake of pain.
Controlling
This is a typical whumper who wants obedience from their victim.
Care
Carewhumpers take the role of a caretaker as well, often because they feel they are sincerely doing the right thing.
Reluctant
These characters don't want to hurt the Whumpee, but unfortunately they must for some reason or another.
Indifferent
A Whumper who doesn't seem to have any personal feelings about the whump. They may do it out of necessity if it's their job, for example.
Intimate
These characters more often have especially personal feelings about the Whumpee! They whump in ways that force closeness or perhaps they interact with the Whumpee in ways only a loved one normally would, possibly confusing or making the Whumpee uncomfortable.
Whumpee
Whichever trope is closest to the main person getting whumped.
Defiant
This Whumpee is often found in torture whump. They don't give in to Whumper despite the cost. For them, the only thing worse than the pain would be submission.
Conditioned
When a Whumpee has been through the same things over and over again, their reactions become natural. Certain things are ingrained deep within them whether they like it or not, they can't help it.
Innocent
They have never experienced The Horrors and don't quite understand what is happening to them or why. They are lost and confused but have strength in their persistent kindness or hope.
Obedient
These Whumpees believe it is better to obey, to try to appease their Whumper if it'll lessen their punishments. With a Carewhumper, they lean into the caregiving even if they know they're being manipulated because the comfort is worth it.
Stoic
These Whumpees put up a strong front, hiding their reactions and stowing away their emotions. Until it becomes too much, that is.
Willing
These seek out the whumping for whatever reason. Perhaps they feel guilty like they deserve it, or are volunteering to take another's place. They can often be self-sacrificial or self-loathing. Although they are called willing, more often than not they'd rather be anywhere else.
You open your mouth with the intention to greet this guy who you can probably safely assume to be your kidnapper or at least some type of accomplice. Your thoughts aren't quite forming into plans. It's like a paperjam up there. The situation in your throat is much the same.
"Hh,ck!"
You choke on the dryness of your throat. Oh, fuck, it's worse than that. It's thick. It's like the walls are swollen and pressing in on themselves. You swallow and it hurts. It's like you have a cold, or left the air conditioning on blast while passed out. Talk about a frog in the throat.
You grab your neck and the comforter slips halfway off the bed. You're not choking, but damn do you need water if you're going to talk. There's an instinct to get up, but... That sounds like a lot of work. Your lagging mind helpfully agrees it'd be pointless anyways, as you've been chained to the wall of a stranger's basement. Better to just give up, it recites. You find yourself tempted to agree.
The fit does seem to have given your friend up on the stairs a little pause, though, and he stares with his mouth agape for a second before setting down the basket and raising his hands up palms out as if you're the dangerous one here, while descending the stairs.
There's spit on your chin. You wipe it on the pajama sleeve. Wait, you've never owned something this cute. Hey, did this creep change your clothes?
"Ahem- hh, um, ssorry," You hiss, which was not what you meant to say. Way to go apologizing to the kidnapper. It's probably good to sound pitiful, though, isn't it? You vaguely recall something about creating rapport with a kidnapper. Likeable, perhaps not. Pitiful, certainly possible. Judging by the way they stop, maybe this kidnapper's even got a thing for pathetic. That, you can certainly do.
"Hi?"
"Ohh."
His voice sounds tired, bordering exasperated.
"You're actually here.... Wow. I am... Hi. I'm gonna- Jesus, do you need water?" He comes down to the bottom step but doesn't actually step on the floor. He seems conscious of the space. Almost scared of it. He looks like he really doesn't want to be here, and keeps glancing back up uncomfortably.
"I should, uh. I should go."
He chuckles breathlessly. His shifty eyes tell you if he leaves to get that water he might not be back for a while.
You wake up with a splitting headache, which isn't abnormal to you, a chronically dehydrated victim of ennui and anemia. The soreness in your joints raises no red flags either, because you've grown accustomed to ignoring such signs in hopes they're indicative of deeper issues that will tip you over the edge one of these days. And the thick sticky white fog clouding the mind behind your sunken eyes is not merely ignorable, but a welcome development replacing the black smog that typically overcasts your thoughts.
It's nearly 30 minutes of sitting in bed unmoving before the smell of lavender finally creeps its way past the dissociation and you look down at your own body, dressed in soft pajamas beneath clean white linens, and look around the windowless room at the bare concrete walls, and will yourself to sit up and realize that digging into the skin of your ankle isn't your imagination but a metal shackle running under the covers and bolted to the wall, that you realize something is very, very wrong.
The only light is this soft, pulsing warm glow from strip LEDs hidden along the edges of the ceiling. There is a carpet, but it doesn't reach the edges of the room and the floor looks like concrete too. There's a vanity desk against one wall, and a staircase against another. It looks to be a basement set up like a girl's bedroom. Occupied, not a guest room, by the clothes draped over the desk chair.
Every time you blink, your eyes feel sore and like they'll pop, like there's pressure in your head. You've been drugged... Or maybe you're very, very hungover. You were drinking, last you remember. This is still a little much. You press your palms into your eyes to try to squeeze down the pressure.
The upstairs door clicks open, and boots begin descending the stairs.
Some person in a hoodie, holding a bin of folded laundry, comes into view. He(?) freezes when he makes eye contact with you.
I just fainted, have some symptoms in chronological order while it's fresh in my mind!
→ sense of foreboding
→ heartrate increase
→ muscle weakness
→ mental confusion
→ anxious/panicky feeling (much like severe overstimulation)
→ overwhelming surroundings
→ shortness of breath
→ visual static/unfocus
→ lightheadedness
→ heavy sweating
→ need to be horizontal (or risk falling unconscious standing and ragdoll) ((a good time to lean on someone because you need to either be entirely horizontal or supported by something soft. Sitting with your head down or crouching will no longer do at this point.))
→ tunneling vision
→ color of face changes to a pale yellowish sickly color
→ looks from outside like nausea, but only a little actual nausea
→ radiating body pain
→ body feels heavy
→ consciousness dips entirely for about 10-30 seconds
→ consciousness fading in and out and symptoms continuing for another 5 minutes
→ everything sounds underwater coming in and out of focus
→ mental recovery but muscle weakness shakiness afterward
whumpee whose injuries are made to look like a suicide attempt. when they insist that is not the case and that it was whumper who did it, no one believes them. why would they after whumpee was found half-dead on the floor the night before?
(bonus points if its because whumpee used to be suicidal in the past. they had gotten better since but no one believes that now and they treat it like a relapse)
Giving orders in the middle of whipping your whumpee. Giving options...
"Hey. I said on your knees, not on your ass."
Struggling to comply just to please not add any more onto their sentence. Bleeding from gashes on top of gashes and panting and unable to think.
"That's halfway through. Would you like to take a break?"
Of course they would. A break from the pain sounds marvelous. But thats too simple. A break just means more time for burn to set in, getting out of the rhythm and mindset and then getting thrown back into it.
Of course, Whumper would make the second half worse if they took the offer, too. There's no break from open wounds, but there is a break for sore arm muscles.
Scrolling a writer blog you were friends with years ago. Catching up with their recent stuff.
Haha, an OC they made last year uses that same funny turn of speech you do. And hey, they kind of look like you.
Wow, they're appearing in more and more of the works as you get closer to the present.
Oh, that's... violent. The scenarios are getting darker and darker, dead dove romance and it's uncomfortable now just how familiar it is. They have the same job as you in the one-shots... Somehow, doesn't that alleyway scene remind you of the alley on your walk home?
In their lastest work, they describe the layout of an apartment much like yours. Sneaking in; punching in the door code. Watching you sleep. Leaving a bug on your laptop. Hoping you notice, but knowing you won't.

...How long has that little red camera indicator been on?
