apparently if a mother dog has a singleton puppy and you can’t quickly get other same-age puppies to be its foster siblings then you have to do all kinds of shit to ensure it grows up with a well-developed nervous system and social skills, including “filling socks with stuffing and shoving it around while it tries to nurse” which is both hilarious and a nightmare

it’s really not. humans have two nipples and generally no more than one child at a time with at least a year between “litters”. no human child is going to grow up with a malfunctioning nervous system because it didn’t have siblings fighting with it for a chance to breastfeed when it was a newborn.

in all seriousness, the developmental period under discussion for puppies is one that involves their developing nervous systems in the first two weeks of life which is before their eyes and ears are even open. it is not comparable to any period of development in human beings and it is not about socialization.
