Somewhere in a hidden memory
Images float before our eyes
Of fragrant nights, of straw, and of bonfires,
Dancing ‘til the next sunrise

“This is the most boring house party I’ve ever been to,” Mary sighed, taking a sip of her wine.
“I quite agree, Lady Mary.” Consuelo chuckled, watching as her husband spoke to some of their peers. “Sunny insisted on planning the party, and I simply did not want to get in his way. He is a very determined man. But...I do not think he would object to some parlour games. I just have the task of making it look like it was his idea!”
what do you mean i didn’t reach out i literally thought about you
thegreatestkingweveeverhad:
“Congratulations.” Charles replied genuinely, smiling at Consuelo and glancing at the ring. He wished he could say the same about his own mother, who would seemingly never get off of his back until he found a wife. “Do you think it’ll be here or in America?”
“Mother wants the wedding in America, although I am positive there will be celebrations here in England too. Sunny and I would be honoured to have you there, Your Royal Highness.”
She wished she could run away from all of this. There was no love between her and Sunny, but there was a part of her that hoped in time she would come to love him. And yet, there was one who still occupied a huge space in her heart--her beloved Win. The heiress looked at the prince before her, a small smile forming on her lips, shy yet sweet.
“If I may be honest, I wish I could pause all of this and just--live a little.”
you know when you’re splitting something with someone you love and you intentionally take the smaller/otherwise worse half so they can have the better one… yeah
ALONE and LONELY are not the same thing.
— but sometimes, I get CONFUSED about which I am.
“Mother’s very happy with the engagement,” Consuelo said as she looked at the ring on her finger, a dazzling pearl and diamond piece created just for her. “Sunny hasn’t decided on a date yet, although I am hoping for a June wedding.”
...am i back? sorta. i’m in a new country and i have a laptop so LIKE DIS IF U WANT TO RP WITH CONSUELO lol
Consuelo Vanderbilt by Frederick John Jenkins, after Heller.
NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO TODAY – August 5, 1913. The front page of the El Paso Morning Times reports that American heiress Consuelo Vanderbilt, unhappily married to the Duke of Marlborough, has become an “ardent suffragist”.
The Silver Centrepiece at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.
Commissioned by the 6th Duke of Marlborough from Garrards of London, famous silversmiths to royalty and aristocracy, in 1845 and used as a decorative centrepiece for the family’s large dining table (not pictured), which is made from oak from the trees in the 20,000 acres of grounds and can extend to seat 40 people. The centrepiece is purely ornamental, and not used as a soup trine, punch bowl or wine/champagne cooler as frequently thought! It is made of pure, solid sterling silver, and weighs roughly 120lbs, or eight stone, and can come apart in 26 individual pieces so it can be cleaned twice a year by the Duke’s butler and underbutler simultaneously. Depicted upon the top of the centrepiece is John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, who is upon horseback and giving a dispatch to a colleague. This is essentially a hastily scrawled note briefly explaining to Queen Anne (who would go on to give the Duke the land, formerly a royal hunting park, and £240,000 to build his palace) which was delivered by this unnamed colleague back to England, a journey which took eight days. A copy of the dispatch is still shown at Blenheim today.
Fun fact: when Consuelo Vanderbilt, the 9th Duchess of Marlborough, was in residence at the palace, she used to specifically request the centrepiece be placed in the middle of the large dining table. Not just because it was beautiful to look at, it also meant she didn’t have to see her despised husband when they were dining together!
“The times are changing, and we must change along with it.” the Duchess remarked, her dainty fingers wrapped around the stem of the glass she held. “Those who get left behind are the ones we need to help. I would love it if you could co-chair this charity gala with me, I absolutely cannot do it alone!”
